Race to Taste 5K!

Monday, June 28, 2010

I finished my first 5K yesterday! I never stopped to walk and I finished a little earlier than I expected. I anticipated about 45 minutes. (I have some pictures to share later!)

My official results:
41:23 (at a pace of 13:20)

It was more difficult than I expected - the humidity was outrageous and I never practiced with any hills! But, I just kept talking to myself about what I wanted and it was easy to pull though.

I cried as I crossed the finish line - I was so overwhelmed with every emotion possible!

dun dun dun!

So, my race is coming up... I'm so nervous! I've been running to meet the time goals - but I have no idea how far I've gone. I'm scared that I've never gotten close to 3.1 miles before.

If you've run a 5K - how was your first one?

My first 5K was on May 30 and I loved it. I was hot and I was tired, but I smiled the whole time. Being out there with other runners is pretty cool. I wanted to run the entire race but I knew the heat was going to get to me, so I ran it at a pretty slow pace. I finished at 41:18 but I ran the entire thing. You really do get an adrenaline rush out of it.

The night before and the morning of the race, I wasn't excited at all. I talked to my running buddy and she was totally psyched and she told me that it was a "big effing deal!" I didn't feel that way until I signed in and got my packet of stuff and put the number on my shirt and the tag on my shoe and got our picture taken. Then we were in the group of people waiting behind the starting line for it to start - it all happened so fast. I remember being scared, but it turned out to be easy.

You'll have fun! I know it!

Just did my first 5k. Everything I read said the biggest mistake people make is starting too fast for their running pace so I paid really close attention to what was going on with my heart rate. It all ran smoothly, as did I (albeit slowly). Good luck!

    You're going to do awesome!!
I was in the same boat you're in... never actually did the whole distance. I was tired and I wanted to quit, but I didn't and I made it, so I know you can, too!! It took me only about 9 minutes longer than I usually ran, so it's not TOOOO bad... you won't be out there for an hour and a half or something. And there will be lots of adrenaline to help you!

I really wanted to RUN the whole thing... I got really slow sometimes, but I made myself keep running... I know it would have been easier to walk, but I wanted to RUN!! You can do it!!

I'm happy!

Tuesday, June 15, 2010

I thought it might be nice to pass along a little update.

I've officially moved back in with my Daddy.

I've been almost constantly busy with social events - I see my friends and family all the time! But, I love it! I've missed them so much and it feels so natural to hang out with them again.

I'm getting a new (old) car today! I've been relying on everyone else to go anywhere so I'm really excited.

I've been keeping up with my C25K program! My first ever race is Sunday, June 27! I am so excited and terrified! Yesterday I ran for 30 minutes and jumped up and down when I was done.

I haven't lost any weight since like, March. Though, I'm happy with my 30 to 35 pounds gone! Plus, running has made me drop another pants size even without any weight loss! No joke - this lady is in a size 12!

where have I been?

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

I've been MIA (again). I've been busy - I'm just not sure what I've been busy doing.

I have been keeping up with my C25K, though - so last Friday I did 20 minutes without stopping! Yay!

I have several countdowns going, so this may explain why I've been so busy.

I have 6 days left with kiddos, 7 days of work, and 9 days until I move back to Indiana. That is alot going on at once!

Add in some over-the-top drama, and life has been pretty crazy.

But, I love you Spark! I promise I'll get back.

I'm speaking from experience and maybe you can relate. Spark is a relationship. Just like a relationship; you can love it, have ups and downs with it, try to get back with it, realize you've both changed, and sometimes even divorce.

I've had many ups and downs on Spark, but I've been ok about not being in lust with it like I was in the beginning. I've just taken a step back and don't use all the tools I used to. I do, however, wish I put a little more time in with my Spark friends. My relationship with it is constantly morphing...

I always like seeing your updates and I hope life doesn't contain as much drama for you when you move back to Indiana! emoticon

Moving sucks! It's such a busy, hectic and stressful time. I can't imagine having to work right up until moving day almost! Good job keeping up with c25k! I hope it helps you relieve some stress! Woo hoo for 20 minutes!!

I completely understand how things can get too hectic. Do what you need to do and I'm sure you'll be back when you can. As long as you stick to your plan, it's all good.

in Chicago! (AWESOME UPDATE)

Friday, May 07, 2010

Yay! I'm in Chicago today! I've got plans to meet up with some of my cousins and friends of the family and such tonight!! I'm very excited.

Currently, I'm really just procrastinating my C25K run! Wednesday's just wasn't as easy as I would have hoped, so I think I'm starting to scare myself about today. I've got a TON of excuses as to why I could put off doing today's workout - but instead I'm going to think of the opposites:

-my legs are honestly looking better already!
-my race is in 51 days
-completing a 5K has been a dream of mine for years
-when I finish C25K I get to buy a cute raceday outfit! :)
-running makes me happier

Oh, I forgot to mention... I've lost 35 pounds!! I didn't update my weight since I was going out of town this weekend - eek - I don't want to have to increase the weight ticker next week! But, I weighed in a 187 for 3 straight days!

Happy Weekend!

I had to get back on here and post my super excitement!

I ran my last day of C25K week 4. I didn't stop jogging in my runs at all!! I'm in Chicago so the scenery is a little different - in the 30 minutes I made 3 big loops. I was very happy at the end, so I decided that my friend's dog needed some exercise, too. I took her on a walk of the big loop (20 minutes), and then jogged the big loop - stopping only to cross the streets because it's rush hour now and there are LOTS of cars out (10 minutes!). Literally, I cut the time in half! Then, we did a slow cool down of 5 more minutes of walking. I cannot believe I jogged all of that, let alone right AFTER I did the C25K run!!

I want to jump up and down I'm so excited!

WOO HOO!!! That's is awesome!! I would love to have a place to run like that, just big loops and new scenery often.

And way to go thinking of the positives! It makes such a difference. And CONGRATULATIONS on the 35 pounds!!! Ow OW!!!! :)
