Burnt Biscuits

Burnt Biscuits

When I was a kid, my mom liked to make breakfast food for
dinner every now and then. And I remember one night in
particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day
at work.

On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of eggs,
sausage and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad.

I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed! Yet all my dad did
was reach for his biscuit, smile at my mom and ask me how my
day was at school. I don't remember what I told him that night,
but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that
biscuit and eat every bite!

When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing
my mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I'll
never forget what he said: "Honey, I love burned biscuits."

Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked
him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in
his arms and said, "Your Momma put in a hard day at work today
and she's real tired. And besides - a little burnt biscuit
never hurt anyone!"

You know, life is full of imperfect things and imperfect
people. I'm not the best at hardly anything, and I forget
birthdays and anniversaries just like everyone else.

What I've learned over the years is that learning to accept
each other's faults - and choosing to celebrate each other's
differences - is one of the most important keys to creating a
healthy, growing, and lasting relationship.

And that's my prayer for you today. That you will learn to take
the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of your life and lay them
at the feet of God. Because in the end, He's the only One who
will be able to give you a relationship where a burnt biscuit
isn't a deal-breaker!

We could extend this to any relationship. In fact,
understanding is the base of any relationship, be it a husband-
wife or parent-child or friendship!

"Don't put the key to your happiness in someone else's pocket -
keep it in your own."

God Bless You..... Now, and Always...

So Please pass me a biscuit, and yes, the burnt one will do
just fine!

I really wanted to share this message with you -
"And that's my prayer for you today. That you will learn to take
the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of your life and lay them
at the feet of God. Because in the end, He's the only One who
will be able to give you a relationship where a burnt biscuit
isn't a deal-breaker!"

Day 8 & 9

Tuesday, February 09, 2010

Yesterday was a fairly good day.
I sparked for abit.
I didnt walk, but drank my water, kept stress down, ate my fruits & veggies, woohoo! Had whole grains 3x! Tried to get 7 hours of sleep.

Day 9
Not so good!
Drinking my water now that I am home.
I hate when I have an appointment over an hour from home and do not want to eat or drink due to the drive. I still had to stop at MD's to use the facilities... ugh! I went straight to my appointment and straight home due to the snow. I make it a priority to have healthy snacks for these times, but today was a bad day for me.

At any rate, I am going to try to walk a little on my treadmill to get a bit of my light walking in. Veggies will be taken care of with dinner and I will have my fruit this evening.
I did not sleep well again last night. I am still fighting to get a good nights sleep.

I keep on keeping on!

What is challenging for you today?
Sleep? Nutrition? Water? Exercise? or something else?

All of it! Most days, just putting one foot in front of the other can be a challenge! I too am not sleeping well. Last night, I had a dream that someone was drowning me and it took forever to fall back to sleep. Doesn't take a psychology degree to figure out that it had to do with the argument I had with them earlier in the evening. I'm proud of you for getting on the treadmill. I keep telling myself that I am going to do it but my inner brat, so far, has won that argument. I hate the treadmill!

Keep going, I'm cheering for you!

How do you keep your stress down?

Monday, February 08, 2010

I joined the heart healthy team, so I decided to ask - How do you keep your stress down?'

I pray.

I listen to Christian music on my MP3 player with headphones, so I can shut out the world.

I call and talk to Laura or Teresa {my daughters}

I take Brutus for a walk.

Sometimes I just cry. We all need a good cry now and then.

And of course sometimes I eat, when I shouldnt.

So what do you do?

    Jenala,

I pray, or go to Mass.
I write in my journal, or read back in my journal .... sometimes I find the answer waiting right there for me.
I breathe deeply.
I exercise.
I make a "to do" list ... often the stress if because of something I feel is hanging undone.

Hope you have a great day today :) Diane

Talking with the Lord (my best friend) is a great stabilizer. I try to understand the weeknesses I have and make plans to work around or with them. If I know that I will binge if I go to a particular restaurant for an event (like a friend or family birthday, anniversary, etc.) then I plan my meals and snacks for the week or day knowing I'm going to that. I try be organized with anything I'm doing and am always seeking a way to simplify how I do some things. I won't lend money expecting it to be returned. I never count on someone else to take care of anything vital to my well being so I am not disappointed. People are not perfect so I don't expect it or even the best of it, then when things go great I am easily satisfied. .... and the list goes on. Keep smiling (don't watch things I know I will get upset about or stirred up). I avoid people who are negative whenever possible. etc.

I'm usually pretty mellow and calm but when I get overly stressed I try to slow down my heart rate with deep breaths and become accepting of the situation as it exists at the moment. - Lou

I, too, pray. I quote scripture to my troubles. I talk to my husband and my sisters in the Lord, who also join me in prayer. More and more I'm learning, too, to exercise in stressful times. It has an amazing effect!

Saying Goodbye to two Aunts

Friday, February 05, 2010

My dad's sister Mickey died yesterday, she was 92.

One of my favorite memories is of visiting my Aunt when I was about 5. My family spent the day at her house sledding in Ortonville, Michigan. They lived at the top of a hill and we sled up and down the road all day long.

My mother's Aunt Dorothy also died, she was 86.
Aunt Dorothy had severe arthritis and spent the last 8 years of her life in a nursing home.

Looking at both of these women I am inspired by both of their lives.
My Aunt Mickey raised five children and her home felt warm and filled with love. She believed in God's grace.

My great Aunt Dorothy ran her own business and had a family too. I know she too believed in God's grace.

May they both rest in eternal peace.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Having love in our hearts for another person is rewarding and makes us better people. Unfortunately, the downside is the sadness we feel when they are gone from this life. I hope that your memories keep you sustained and warm.

Day 3... where did it go?

Thursday, February 04, 2010

Ok Day three did not go as planned at all!

I had to go pick up my car for the third time from the dealership, that is an adventure all by itself, they are about 50 miles away, so I was on the road for 3 hours, praying it wouldnt break down again! By law we have a lemon of a car, another story! I took my healthy snacks, as I didnt want to stop anywhere and eat. At any rate, I was feeling pretty bad by the time I got home. I ate lunch and had some tea.

An hour later and my blood pressure took a huge dive and I felt pretty bad! I did not log back in to track my food yesterday, I didnt walk. Heck, I didnt meet half of my goals!

I went to bed by 9pm and slept until 730 this morning; this is not like me!

I finally made my appointment with the cardiologist this morning - YES I have been dragging my feet hoping that the low bloood pressure was a fluke!, or some side affect from meds, ect. Excuses, excuses, excuses. The truth is im just plain AFRAID and Im tired of being sick all of the time, and I am very tired of seeing Doctors. But I am yelling at myself - to not be a fool!

At any rate, I feel better today. I am taking my blood pressure in about 15 mins and having my fiber one cereal - then hoping to catch up on Spark.

Keeping on keeping on!
