Reflect About This Quote In Your Journal

Sunday, August 20, 2006

I am so my own worst enemy. I started the Couch to 5K this morning and consistently was trying to talk myself out of it. Even as I was doing it. Once I finished I was really proud of myself, but I expect the same mental arguments will arise when I try again on Tuesday.

What leaps of faith are you willing to take?

Trying new things can give you a real zest for life. Pushing beyond your comfort zone in a responsible way helps you grow confidence and creativity that you can apply to your everyday life. Do not let fear control what you do (or don't) do? While taking risks can be scary, doing nothing is a big mistake, as it produces nothing fruitful within you. There is a direct relationship between the things that we achieve and the effort we put forth to obtain them. To reach the fruit, you have to climb the tree first!

Wow, how appropriate (as I find many of the Healthy Reflections seem to be). For so many years I've had a fantasy of being a runner. I've always put it off because I am too fat, too out of shape, too lazy, whatever.

The other day I searched for a site that I have wistfully looked at for many years now, Couch Potato to 5K (http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/1
81.shtml). Again I read through the steps and wished that I could do it.

Week 1
Workout 3X
Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes.

But I decided I wouldn't know how to alternate run/walk times. And it would be a hassle to figure it out.

Then I read through the Newbie Cafe and found that someone has put together a podcast to help with that (http://www.robert.ullreys.net/). So much for that excuse.

Truth is I'm afraid. Afraid of failure. Afraid of starting one more thing and not finishing.

August 6, 2006 -- New Beginning

Sunday, August 06, 2006

I made some decisions today about my life and decided there were a few things I needed to let go of. The minute I did, this song came on the radio.

Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Oh, oh, oh

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

No one else, no one else

The rest is still unwritten
The rest is still unwritten
