Doctors -- Yuck

I went in for my physical and with all the other referrals for the mamogram, the blood work, etc. it's crazy. I feel like I will be going to the doctor for one thing or another for the next several weeks. Of course with all the tests there is always the worry they might find something. So far so good but until I get all the follow ups done -- all I have to say is Yuck.

So Far So Good

Lost 3 pounds this week. I am liking the dash diet so far and using the spark tracker to keep track of sodium has been a big help. I am suppose to be tracking my BP and it seem to be up and down. When I went to the Dr. again this week it was down but when I took it a couple of days later it was up again. Hopefully by the time I go back to the Dr. again it will be down for good. Things seem to be going well I just hope to see results with the BP.

Here I go again -- trying number ??? -- I have been doing this so long I do not even want to think about what number try this is. Hopefully it will not get derailed with other events - knee surgery, ankle surgery and arthritis. Hopefully I will figure a way to do this because the alternative is to start taking medication for high blood pressure and if I can control it with diet that would be best.
So far so good but I feel like I am spending so much time sitting in front of the computer and reading when I could be walking or exercising. It is just frustrating but hopefully once I have everything set up it will be easier in the future.

    Taking one day at a time is one of the keys to success (in anything you are trying to do). There was a time when I felt I was spending way too much time on the computer and not enough "me" time to implement my program. I started setting a timer for 30 minutes when I was on the computer. What I didn't get done in that amount of time I tried to get back to the computer later.....after I got my exercise in and my meal plans. Best of luck on your journey to a healthier you. Remember one day at a time and do the best you can...being honest with yourself. emoticon

Feeling the Crunch

No I am not talking about exercise or the sound of chips. I am talking about the daily grind to get everything on the To Do List done. As I sit here blogging instead of cleaning, organizing and doing all the other stuff I should be doing. I don't know about everyone else but for me I find it hard to do something I do not enjoy doing. It does not matter what it is cleaning a room, mopping a floor or exercising.

I have been asking this question for years and have yet to receive an answer that is helpful. I am always told to do exercises I like doing and it will be easier to do - it will not feel like such a chore. My reply is always what do you do when the thing you enjoy doing the most causes you pain and it is not longer enjoyable. Everyone always tells me to try something different but the other things I have tried either hurt or I do not enjoy doing that activity.

I do not know about the rest of you but some days it is just difficult to push yourself to do something that you do not enjoy doing.

    I think most people that find themselves needing to lose a significant amount of weight will probably also say that they don't naturally enjoy exercise. It stands to reason that if we did love exercise we would be doing it all the time without thought.

For various reasons (metabolism, health issues, genetics, etc.) we aren't predisposed to love exercise. You mentioned pain when trying to do various things. I'm guessing this is one of two things: health issue (like arthritis) or you may be doing to much to fast which leads to injury.

Oftentimes, we think that if we want to do something we have to go to the gym, or the track, or where ever and just be able to do it. Realistically, it takes time to change our bodies and adjust to new physical demands.

If you want to run, begin by walking. Find a program that helps you gradually build to jogging. Always, begin very slowly and ease into things. If you push yourself right away you are guaranteed to become injured and then unable to exercise for days or weeks and then become discouraged.

You can do this. Don't get discouraged. You have hit a boulder but you can walk around it just find the right way for you!

    I hate to exercise............ So my way is to walk..... I have to wait for warmer weather... but that's what I do in the summer..... winter...... I say my cleaning and things I do around the house is enough for me..... I can relate to pain.... and not liking a lot of things that cause it...... So try to work around it.... find other things you like instead of exercising..... swimming.... pool.... darts.. etc.. emoticon

Starting Over Again

Well it is but it isn't - I did not gain all my weight back that I lost but I have not been doing the program either. I injured my knee and unfortunately my computer is upstairs and stairs have been a problem for awhile. Now that is is getting a little easier I am hoping to be back on track. It is also helpful that the new phone gets the app for Sparkpeople. I recently started a college course on losing weight and keeping it off. The information there is pretty consistent with Sparkpeople and setting goals, tracking, exercising, and journaling. The course is not over yet but hopefully I will learn a little more about nutrition and eating the right foods.

    Glad you are back! As my favorite diet quote says "Fall down 7 times stand up 8" also read today "You are not a loser until you quit"

We all have times where things get behind, injuries or illness derail us but as long as you keep coming back to achieving your goals you will succeeed!
