Reality: Conversations with My Mind

Saturday, July 31, 2010

The last conversation I had with my body was not very pleasant. It all spurred from a bucket of buttered popcorn shared by others at a movie theatre- as if that validates over indulgence-and ended up in abdominal thrusts (not exercise either) .

While walking briskly along the beach, listening to upbeat tunes, I began to reflect on what I REALLY expected of myself.
Do I REALLY expect to reach my goal weight?
Do I REALLY think that I can be positive with so much negativity surrounding me (work)?
Do I REALLY believe I'll get the support I need to persevere and be content with my lifestyle?

Well, you may think I answered "NO" to these questions, but I actually had "YES" answers to MOST of these. I know it will take time (more than I initially wanted), but I CAN/WILL reach my desired weight.
At work, I've decided to just "do my job" and steer clear of ANY negativity as much as possible without giving feedback to validate "rain clouds" [negative people].
Since my family no longer nag and tease about my constant "Sparking", I know they'll support me if no one else will.
As far as being content with my lifestyle. Hey! I have a terrific husband, 3 great kids, and a humorous, spoiled poodle. What more could I ask for?
Oh yeah! As long as the health reports from the doctor remain positive, I'm good with that.
So whenever you feel discouraged, take a brisk walk and have a conversation with your mind. Be sure your lips aren't moving though or onlookers may think you've gone bonkers.

It's A Family Affair

Saturday, July 17, 2010

The re-scheduled family reunion which was originally for July 4th weekend became today's gathering. Seeing my husband's family was a treat. Although the park was HOT, we all enjoyed the music, relaxing scenery, and a nearby wedding reception in the pavilion.
I just knew I wasn't going to track my food. Fitness came from set-up and clean-up.
Gotta finish tracking now...

Worked it, BABY!

Saturday, July 10, 2010

Got up at 7:30 to walk/jog at 7:55 - 9:00am. My gorgeous husband decided to walk with me.
I felt like a sheepish little girl whose prince charming just kissed her. (We have that kind of giddy love for each other after 18 years)
I must say his faster pace pushed me farther than I would've pushed myself.
I suppose I have been missing a workout buddy all this time.
Now he's in the yard working more cardio as I "Spark" inside planning the family's healthy lunch and dinner for later.
Yes, we "worked it", baby!!!

Way to go soror! It's nice to walk with a partner, especially your honey-do! My honey-do has been helping me get in the miles. Since Saturday we have walked 11 miles...By the way, I will celebrate 32 years in August! We are not as giddy...but it's not bad... emoticon

Doin' the Independence Challenge BABY!!!!

Wednesday, July 07, 2010

At 7:45am I am jogging along for 12 blocks til I reach the cloudy beach. Look up at a HUGE rain cloud. "No God, please don't let this happen to me".
I figured that I've come too far to turn back now. So I think perhaps I'll just jog a few blocks and then turn around. OH NO!!!!!
The terrential rain pelts down atop my drenched visor. Beads of droplets penetrate my hair, workout gear, and the shades I immediately remove. Darn, did my phone get wet, too? It did.
So I finally spot a safe haven beneath an awning.
The rain settles. I proceed to jog closer to home. Whoa! Downpour...
I jog my way through each droplet. What? I'm locked out. GREAT!!!!

What is your definition of independence?
Most of us would say, "Independence means freedom to make choices without prejudices of others interferring".
Some may say, "Independence is the act of expressing one's self wholeheartedly."

Whatever your definition, may you be free to embrace your inalienable rights as a proud American in a manner that does not infringe upon the rights of others.

Happy Independence Day to all: July 4th, 2010!!!

As a wife of a Soldier in Afghanistan, and a Veteran, I am so grateful that we have freedoms to worship our God, to speak, and to live. However, I also believe that it is important that with that freedom we make choices that are responsible and healthy. emoticon emoticon
