Golytely (go-lightly)...salty gallon solution...Must drink!

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

Let's just say that the label is HIGHLY misleading.

This crap tastes like, "Jesus help me" with a side of "Just shoot me".
I must drink this solution prior to my colonoscopy tomorrow afternoon.
Why is it that torture must preceed a solution in the medical world?
I don't fear the procedure. It's the solution (if you will) that I'm swallowing that's got me in a tizzy! emoticon An entire gallon must be consumed. The WHOLE thing!

Sidebar: I feel so bloated and gassy! Is that my stomach? Oh Lord!

I am sucking on a piece of lime when I come up for air. Wooooo! The aftertaste resembles salty chalk. Yes, salty chalk water. Can I just suck on a piece of burnt rubber between 2 slices of toast? I'm sure that would taste better.

I keep saying to myself, "This is temporary. It won't last much longer. It's all for a good cause."

Then, I drink faster....
Gulp! Gulp! Gulp!
Long drag (suck)...
Gulp! Gulp! Gulp!
This goes on until I finish the water bottle I poured it in. - - - Psychological method
Any suggestions are welcomed!

Sorry for yelling.

Oh I never had to drink anything as that. I don't think I ever want to. They need to develop something where the taste does not bring as much agony as the issue. I'm sure it can be done but glad you got through that part of it! emoticon

My dr developed a "cocktail" which was very palatable! Sounds like he should market that recipe based on the all negative comments.

Hope all went well --- you're wise to DO it now and not put it off!

It isn't just the taste, it is the way that stuff "feels" in your mouth. Been there, done that, enough times that I have tried all 6 available flavors. None of them taste good, and none of them helped. I took mine out and let it warm to room temperature. That helped me tolerate it better.

Hope everything comes out OK.

    Ms. Sonya,
Tis the next day. You made it!
Well done on keeping your sense of humor during an entirely unpleasant thing.
With all the medical advances, One would think it could at least taste like a chocolate shake.
I hope there is nothing wrong and all comes out *crystal clear* emoticon
Must admit, I have assisted in many of these procedures but never actually undergone one myself. Thank God...err...I mean looking forward to the torture and painful gas one day.
Ma'am you really deserve to treat yourself today. emoticon

yeah...I have a feeling that's in my near future. I have a very sensitive gag reflex. I didn't make through all of the pre-surgery clean out they gave me when I had my hysterectomy...and it was only a quart!

I've heard they have a pill option. When my time comes, I will have to ask for that. There is no way I can drink a gallon. It's just not possible without me puking.

I hope everything goes well with your procedure. And good for you for doing this! It's unpleasant, but VERY important.

I agree with you.....yuck emoticon .

My mother always told me that...."sometimes we just have to do something anyway."

Besides the "whole thing" gallon, the most important issue is to have a good procedure done in order to check everything out, and not have to repeat it! Think about it that way.

Hope all of your results are as you want them to be.

Have a blessed day and wonderful journey to the new you!

So sorry. I always hate the prep more than the procedure. I have those done every 3 years. They've switched me to where I take pills now for the prep. At least its easier going down. The best advice is eat some jello with it. It helps a little with the taste. Good luck with the procedure.

"Doc, what CAN I eat?!?"

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

"No fruits, veggies, roughage, spicy, or greasy foods..." is the verbiage that keeps ringing in my head every time I attempt to eat.
For those of you who have been keeping up with my progress, I have been diagnosed as formerly having Crohn's disease which was removed from a region of my large and small intestine about 11 years ago. A few weeks later, I was pregnant with my youngest and only son.

Back to my condition...
After yesterday's visit to the GI, I was told that my diagnosis was inaccurate in so many words. The surgeon informed me the summer of 2002 after performing surgery, "You do not have Crohn's...I removed a tumor the size of a small grapefruit in the affected area."

How am I supposed to feel when another doctor says something different?

The intern sitting in the office looked as if I was in denial. Then, as though I wasn't in the room, says to the doctor,"She doesn't know she has Crohn's disease".

I wanted to "go off" on him and knock him into reality with my words. Glad I am such a tolerant woman. Must be all these years of middle school teaching...

So, today was a pain-free day with no pain meds taken.
They make me too drowsy...

Will keep you all updated after my scheduled colonoscopy next week.

Until then...

Never give up!

***Warning...Explicit Details of My Current Condition***

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Yesterday, when I arrived at work, I felt fine. Arrived with my grande White Chocolate Mocha coffee, had a banana, grape protein smoothie prior, and was prepared for benchmark testing...It hit me like a Mack truck. A sharp pain launched itself inside my abdominal area. I hunched over during testing. I tried to play it off, leaned over as if it was nothing.

Fast forward a few hours later... emoticon
I had 3 bowel movements in a 4 hour time span...NOT GOOD!
Talk about light brown, stinky, stick-to-the-toilet...icky!

I explained to a dear, friend & colleague,"It hurts so bad!" with tears emoticon slowly trickling along the side of my cheek. I barely trudged down the hall after leaving my students in the cafeteria. My colleague told me, "That's it, Sonya. You're going to the hospital. Call your husband and I'll tell (insert principal's name)."

Just LOVE her. she's a true "ride or die" chick! I knew I was in good hands from that moment on.

Moments later, I arrived at the hospital. I was finally seen and treated 2 hours later with a CT scan and given morphine prior to manage the pain. I was instructed to eat soft foods, stay hydrated, and rest. So today I remained home, until filling my Rx emoticon
and scheduled an appointment with a reputable GI. Drowsiness is the side effect...NO driving!
My diagnosis (in my opinion)has to do with past small intestinal issues and blockage from a benign grapefruit-sized tumor which had been removed after 6 months of suffering and being mis-diagnosed as having Crohns disease. This was about 11 years ago.
Let's just say I went from a size 12 to a size 2, hardly able to digest Ensure. Yeah, I was in BAD shape.

I planned to be more explicit, but decided to give just enough details so you get the picture without "getting the picture" if you know what I mean...

Keep me in your prayers! I pray also for an immediate, accurate diagnosis.

Marriage: A Dance, Not A Debate

Sunday, January 13, 2013

Ed Young made this very clear in today's message.
God is the choreographer.
He referenced Ephesians 5:18-22 as for the wife's job description.
"And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord."

Additionally, 1 Peter 3:1; 4-6

Message: Wives...
Live a Christian life.
Let the INSIDE of your life speak.
Trust your husband.
Be feminine (taste, class, dignity).
Have a gentle, quiet spirit.
Likes to have fun.
Make husbands feel BIG/ important.

These are the wives' job descriptions according to the Word.

Ed Young is the pastor of "The Winning Walk" - televised program.

Dance in step with your spouses for supernatural and physical harmony!

Girl, say it. I love that the word is clear about how we as wives should conduct ourselves. What the word doesn't say is if your husband isn't treating you the way God says you can then treat him any old kind of way. I like that God's word doesn't give us an excuse to act in a way contrary to God.
