... go do it as I'm grateful that I CAN!

Thursday, June 28, 2012

Trying to read EVERYTHING that SparkPeople.com shares can be a daunting task. I do my best to absorb all that comes across email and flashes by me on the sidebars.

Today I discovered a great "keeper" in the SparkBlog "40 Things to Try When You Don't Want to Workout" by Coach Nicole.

The one thing that tugged at my heartstrings was No 40. [Read the article.]

It reminded of my youth when I participated in a school-wide dance-a-thon for MS. The motto was, and still might be, "Dance for Those Who Can't". It felt really good to do what I so very much enjoyed while at the same time bringing awareness and much needed funding to help other kids who couldn't dance.

So today--and everyday--as I lace up my shoes

I will think of all the people who can't and go do it as I'm grateful that I CAN!

Perfection is My Enemy

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

Today I heard a song, "Free To Be Me" by Francesca Battistelli, on the radio flipping through the dials.

The chorus hit home with me, especially the perfection line...

‘Cause I got a couple dents in my fender
Got a couple rips in my jeans
Try to fit the pieces together
But perfection is my enemy
On my own I'm so clumsy
But on Your shoulders I can see
I'm free to be me

Found it on YouTube. Enjoy!

Wishful Thinking...

Monday, June 25, 2012

I wish my weight was dropping like the current gas prices.

At the Costco in my area today I filled up my gas tank with Unleaded for $2.99/gal.

Alas, I'll just keep on the straight and narrow path to health and wellness!

I read your post and had a good laugh, really wishful thinking we all would like that because I would also like to drop the weight like the gas prices. Keep on doing the right thing and it will sure come off in the long run

Back to 40+

Sunday, June 24, 2012

When I first got serious about my new journey to health and wellness, I worked my way up to 40-45 minutes a day of cardio and three days per week of strength training.

Experiencing a vacation and some other unforeseen issues from the home front, I allowed myself to slack off for a little over a week.

This weekend I got right back on that horse. Yesterday I logged 45 min of cardio. Today another 50 minutes of cardio. Yeah me!!

I feel good!

Counting Up, Shrinking Down

Saturday, June 23, 2012

Today I walked in my 10th Komen Race for the Cure. I know this because I have 10 shirts from the past 14 years of this annual event in my possession.

Unfortunately, the number of shirts in my drawer from these Race events grows each year. I say UNFORTUNATE because they still haven't found a CURE for CANCER!

However, on a positive note, the shirt size I'm requesting has officially shrunk in size!! Some of my Komen Race for the Cure t-shirts are XXL and XL. This year I requested a size L and it was a comfortable fit. I am so proud! I even wore it tucked in my light-weight chambray shorts all day.

Here's a shot of MDH, Jeff, and son, Kirk, in front of St. Louis City Hall on the corner with the Ulysses S. Grant statue.

Silly me, I neglected to have someone snap my picture.

Way to go as you're a smaller size and walkng for a good cause! Although not a cure yet, we need all of the help we can get. emoticon emoticon
