Yep! That's right... water, aqua, H20, whatever you want to call it.

It wasn't until I started drinking 9 to 10 eight ounce glasses a day that I really saw changes in my appetite and nutritional intake.

So, all of you can use my secret weapon, too!

If you don't believe me, here's proof now that SparkPeople have let this little secret out: www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutriti

Great Intentions

Monday, June 18, 2012

We had very good intentions of getting in some strength training while on vacation for 4 nights and 5 days last week. All the necessary equipment (DVDs, Kettlebells, fitness attire, shoes, etc.) was packed and even taken into the room. However, we never did do even 10 minutes of strength exercises.

However, we did get in extra long walks. Both MDH and I averaged 11,000 to 12,000 steps per day walking the Silver Dollar City Amusement Park trails and the outlet malls of Branson, MO. We also spent time in the pool playing with our 7 y/o son.

So we did get in some fitness, just not exactly what we had planned. All is not lost!!

My Big Memorial Day Plans are Solemn, not Festive

Friday, May 25, 2012

Those of us who work a day-to-day job have this Monday off. All government agencies and banking institutions are also closed. Let's not forget why we are living a good life in the greatest country on earth...

This year is the first Memorial Day weekend my son is a Cub Scout. It's tradition for all the scouts to participate in an activity called Memorial Good Turn. That's where hundreds of scouts from the Greater St. Louis Area march on Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with thousands of flags in hand. The scouts and parents will place one flag in front of each grave marker. As I've only seen this on television, I'm certain that participating with my son's Scout Pack will be aw-striking and highly emotional event.

You see, my dearly departed grandparents are buried in this national landmark, Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, which is rich in history and just a few miles from our home. Grandpa was a WWII veteran and Grandma followed him only a few years afterwards. I haven't been to their grave sight since Grandma's funeral over a decade ago. My emotions are already stirring and I have 48 hours to prepare.

The rest of the weekend we are intentionally keeping busy with house work, yard work, and playing poolside to keep cool in this expected heatwave.

Hopefully your weekend plans allow you to take time and remember why we have Monday off as a holiday. Take time to thank a veteran; past, present or future.

I can relate to this blog as I, too was at Jefferson Barrackes in MO during this Memorial Day weekend which is where my Dad and Mom are, together as he was the Vet, as my brothers and I am too. While there, and looking for where they are located, I found other family members dating back to the 1800's. The Boy Scouts do a great job in remembering and supporting our Vets. We should remember to do the same and support their efforts. Thanx so much for remembering and the reminder. emoticon emoticon emoticon

My son's Scout Troop placed flags on Tuesday night for this weekend's remembrances and at Christmas they participated in Wreaths Across America and he was able to place a wreath on his Grandpa's marker at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Then he and the older son march in 2 parades on Monday with the HS marching band.

I'm not much of a flag-waver myself, but I'm glad that their organizations encourage them to remember our departed service people.

I loved your blog. You are right - it will be emotional putting the flags at each grave marker. My dad is buried at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery and the flags are an amazing sight. Our news covers the Cub and Boy Scouts each year and it chokes me up each time. Our national cemeteries are a national treasure because they are the resting place of so many of our heroes - it's nice to see young children with their parents showing their respect. Thank you and your son for doing this.
