You Noticed, You Really Noticed

Thursday, May 17, 2012

One of the message boards posed the question "What differences did you first notice?" Like most of those who commented on this feed, I answered loose fitting clothing.

But today, I'm more thrilled that others are beginning to notice the difference in ME. Not that the scale has really cooperated, but my physique is different thanks to all the varieties of exercises I'm doing. Since March I've been doing lots of Kettlebell workouts, Wii Fit Plus Yoga and Strength activities, cardio, Balance Games, etc. on average 6 days a week. It's obviously making a difference.

One of the women at my weekly faith sharing group commented "You look like you are losing weight." And others agreed with her. Not that I'm doing this for anyone else. It just nice to hear that others are noticing.

Oh, what a feeling!

NOT Oops, but

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Each week I take my Wednesday lunch hour and walk around the grounds adjacent to my place of work: Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France (The Old Cathedral), a historical landmark in St. Louis, Missouri. It just so happens to be located on the Mississippi Riverfront in the south shadow of the Gateway Arch, a national park, with several tree-lined trails.

Thanks to the SparkPeople Map Route program, I have the trails calculated a couple different paths to log when I do my Wednesday Walk. Today I had time for the longer of the two routes and I completed 2.11 miles in 37:21.5 minutes.

This is HUGE progress for me! When I first started this weekly routine, I was lucky to get around in 45-48 minutes. Look how far I've come in just three months! I'm making progress and so proud of my accomplishments thus far!

Thanks for letting me bask in the glory of a wonderful (cardio) day!

Rising to New Heights with Wii

Tuesday, May 15, 2012

My new toy!

Here's something to boost the cardio heart rate when I do my Wii Fit Plus challenges.

I searched for months to find the ideal Wii Balance Board step and here it is...

It's initially for 3" extension, but can also be raised to 6". As I improve my endurance on the Wii FreeStep or other step activities, this will raise me to new heights.

I have one, and it is a great tool. It definitely amps up the difficulty on the Advanced Step and Rhythm Boxing. It threw off my timing a bit at first, just to give you a heads up.

Wow! That's an awesome add-on for the balance board! I haven't done my Wii Fit for today and may not have time, but I'm really sore from the first 2 days! Tomorrow my plan is to do extra. Thanks for introducing me to that's been a fun change of pace!

Kids... Listen to Your Mother!

Friday, May 11, 2012

Tonight my dear friends and neighbors are spending the night in the ER at Children's Hospital. Their 6 y/o son who has a low-riding 4-wheel motor scooter was riding it this afternoon without his helmet or seat belt fastened. He was also skidding along in the street instead of sticking to the sidewalks.

This little boy didn't listen to three important rules his mother has repeated for months since he acquired this "really cool toy": ALWAYS wear your helmet, ALWAYS strap yourself in, and NEVER take it into the street.

So when he meets a Cadillac Escalade coming slowly around the corner, and the driver can't see him, it only takes a minor impact to cause a great deal of pain and suffering and blood.

Please pray that this young boy will be okay and that his family will be strong.

We also ask for prayers for the driver, also a dear friend and neighbor, who is traumatized. She makes the same journey multiple times a day and has been in residence here for more years than us. Her teenage daughter was in the passenger seat and screamed when he crept out into the street. Both or them are taking this whole ordeal rather hard.

But most of all pray for ALL children--young and old--that they not learn the hard way to LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER!

UPDATE - 10:30 PM -- THANK YOU for your prayers!
After many stitches, this very luck boy will be okay. We mothers in the neighborhood were worried about the extent of his head injury but that was not relayed to us with this update. The verdict is still out on saving his adult front teeth until the swelling goes down. More good news as it channels down.
