Today is National Drink Beer Day!

Friday, September 28, 2012

As if people needed an excuse to tip a few cold ones with some friends, Drink Beer Day is upon us.

Most folks won't have any trouble finding drinking companionship on this day. Just "grab some buds" then go out and celebrate this holiday. (After all I do live in St. Louis, home of Budweiser, King of Beers.)

If you still have a few carbs left to kill on this day, you can record the nutritional value of beer on your SparkPoints. Did you know that beer contains vitamin B6. It's true!

Well you know I'm always a day late and a dollar short, but in honor of National Drink Beer Day, I'm going to have a cold frosty one at the Cards game tonight so I can get an extra dose of vitamin B6 today! Cheers and go Cards!

National One-Hit-Wonder Day

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

No matter what music era you recall, there is one song you almost always remember that can put a smile on your face the moment the melody starts playing in your head.

When I noticed today is National One Hit Wonder Day, I Googled my favorite era: 1980s. Check out this list I found www.onehitwondercentral.com/80s.cfm

There are three songs on this Top 10 List that I remember as being favorites during my dancing nights back in college. Until now I had no idea that the artists would sing no more. I've listed three of my favorite One Hit Wonders in order of my preference.

"Rappers Delight" by Sugar Hill Gang
"Funkytown" by Lipps, Inc.
"Turning Japanese" by The Vapors

OneHitWonders.com is a great resource if you want to reacquaint yourself with some of your favorite music. Every era is represented going back to the 1950s so there is likely to be something for everyone. Add one or two to your workout or walk mix.

Enjoy this short walk down memory lane. I sure did!

You guys are too funny! Thanks for all the wonderful comments.

"Rappers Delight" is a very good friend's favorite song at Karaoke so I, too, know all the words. She does it EVERY time we are out for a sing-a-long night on the town.

Do any of you watch "Parenthood" on NBC? Did you notice that "Funkytown" was referenced in one of the new episodes this season? It's the code word among the parents with kids who have such busy lives that it's necessary to schedule their alone bedroom time.

Today is a Double Whammy: Cheeseburger and Rice Crispy Treat Day

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

Some days I only need to consult my unusual holiday calendar to plan my dinner meal. That is especially true today.

National Cheeseburger Day - Everything is better with cheese on it, right?
emoticon

and

Rice Crispies Treat Day - rather Cocoa Crispies--our family favorite--in this instance
emoticon

We have beef and turkey burgers thawing in the fridge and cheese at the ready. I'm preparing a double batch of Rice Crispies Treats not only for today, but for the fun-filled weekend ahead.

Of course, there will be at least two fruits/vegetables with this meal, too! And whole grain buns or go without, my preference.

It's a good thing that thanks to SparkPeople I'm living by my new credo "All thing in moderation!" Not that everyday is perfect. But I'm doing my best at a new healthy lifestyle.

Today is Constitution Day

Monday, September 17, 2012

emoticon
Today is 225th Anniversary of the United States of America Constitution.

This holiday was previously known as Citizenship Day (before 2004) and "I am an American Day" (the 1940s). Though this holiday has gone through a lot of name changes, it was first celebrated in 1787 as Constitution Day.

Today let's take time to reflect on the importance of this massive document that spells out our democracy and set the foundation for this great country we call home.
