Today is Working Parents Day

Sunday, September 16, 2012

Today, a Sunday of all days this year, we celebrate Working Parents. It's another one of those unique holidays shared today with National Cinnamon Raisin Bread Day, National Play Doh Day and Step Family Day, among others.

Like most working parents, I have a full plate and display a lot of patience--most of the time, anyway. Though I work p/t, I'm still busy at my job outside the home three days a week and then I come home and start my second job--being a mom.

It wasn't in the original plans. After marriage I was going to be the one to stay home and raise our family. But the economy and circumstances of unemployment when our only son was just 9 months old forced me to return to the workforce.

It's not too bad at all! I'm blessed to work at a great location, with flexible scheduling and decent pay. It's also a job with a definite purpose. Not everyone can say that about their job.

Sometimes I just wish I was given a genie in a bottle to grant my three wishes: day of pampering at a spa with regular frequency, keep my home ship shape clean FOREVER, and freedom to do more family things. Is that to much to ask?

So Glad I Do Not Celebrate National Cream-filled Donut Day

Friday, September 14, 2012

Today, September 14th, is National Cream-filled Donut Day. There are no other recognized unusual holidays today. It sits all by itself this date on the calendar, a square just for praise of the ooey gooey mess of cream-filled fried cakes.

Thank goodness I've never craved such a sugary treat. Or I might have been first in line at the popular donut shops this morning.

For me the WOW factor wears off after the first bite. And that is an alarming bite.

So, NO, I won't be celebrating this unusual national holiday, thank you very much!

I think I can make it today without celebrating. Reading your blog was enough.
I recognized it.

Dunkin' Donuts might not be happy about it, but my waistline (once i find it) is closer to coming to stay.

I don't believe in this day... I prefer my doughnuts glazed with no cream or filling!

Hope your day is great!

National Peanut Day

Thursday, September 13, 2012

Today is National Peanut Day.

For my afternoon snack, I'm enjoying Granny Smith wedges dipped into organic PB.

Last night I whipped up a batch of brownies for my family and included peanut butter nuggets in the mix. That's our dessert and school snacks the remainder of this week and into the weekend.

We are fortunate that not one of us in this household has a peanut allergy and we all love PBJ sandwiches. YUMMY!

How will you celebrate National Peanut Day?

** For those of you who saw this post after the initial hour, I had happy fingers and out of habit added "butter" when in fact it's National Peanut Day. If you wish to mark your calendar now, National Peanut Butter Day is Jan 24.

Sharing GOOD NEWS and Prayers of Thanksgiving...

This week we learned that my DH receives a State of Missouri unemployment benefits, thus granting him permission to attend the C.A.I.T. program at Washington University in St. Louis without paying anything out of pocket! WooHoo!!

We are so very grateful he's able to attend this prestigious program for IT professionals. And especially thankful that the costs are covered for us.

Thank you to all the Prayer Warriors. Our prayers were answered on this matter. We are all truly blessed in so many ways!

GOD is good all the time! All the time, God is good!!

All of the time and as the praises go up, the blessings come down. He is a force to be reckoned with as he is a Child of the Most High God. Keep the faith and keep the prayers coming. I would love to be able to attend school free of charged. That in itself is a blessing! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

To Busy to Care

Thursday, August 30, 2012

These past couple of weeks have been pretty trying on my emotions and waist line.

I should have never brought into the house those FREE snack bags: chips, crackers, scoops, etc. They are my downfall and NO ON CAN EAT JUST ONE!

So, next time we get a stash of FREE snack food, I'm hiding it in the basement, passing it along to neighbors, or finding other alternatives to carry the generosity forward.

Spark on....

My weakness is the Lays Wavy chips and Iíve learned that when I add them on my food tracker, itís not worth the calories when I could have had something more healthy, more of it and more beneficial to my weight lost effort. Everything in moderation as sometimes, we are our own worst enemy. Great idea! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I have issues with chips, so I totally understand. I haven't really cut anything out of my diet completely because it makes me binge, but chips are the exception- I do best if I avoid them completely. At first it was stressful walking past them in the grocery store, and now I'm fine!

You are so right how sad it is that we can't donate them once again for the shelters. And I'm right there with you on the chip trap..... I found out this past week that I can't have Club Crackers and cream cheese in the house any longer. Buy the cream cheese when I need it for wraps (lunch at co-op) but no extra!

Thank you all for your encouraging comments. Yes, we are blessed to have generosity still alive and well in our lives.

RE: Shelter Suggestion...

Unfortunately, that's not an option in this situation where product is taken off the shelf by the manufacturer.

You see, there are some really devious people who will take that sealed bag of chips ($3.49-4.99 retail) and return it to any local grocer for a cash refund. Otherwise, that person who so kindly shared these extra bags might lose employment if the FREE bag chips land at any area shelter.

If making a donation to a shelter, EACH AND EVERY bag would have to be opened at the time it was dropped off. Other companies have had to implore this new policy as well for the same reason.

So sad... A few dishonest people ruined it for all the rest!
