Lesson Learned: Keep Exercising to Avoid the Pains of Old Age

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

This weekend we were cleaning out the garage. I moved slightly to the left while simultaneously picking up something off the floor. Well, my body didn't like that juxtaposition and I pulled a muscle in my lower back.

Had I kept up with my strength training and Wii Yoga routine, this probably would not have happened.

I've learned the following lessons from this ordeal:
1. I can't let life get in the way of me taking care of myself
2. Keep up with my daily exercise routines to better prepare my body for those extraneous situations when physical exertion is necessary
3. Pulled muscles need only rest for 1 day
4. Don't allow yourself to sit for more that 20-30 minutes at a time in the same spot (i.e. at the PC, on the couch)

So, let's get physical AGAIN!

Good News on Jeff's Job Search

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

Today Jeff got word that he's been accepted into an education program through CAIT at Washington University in St. Louis. The best thing is that it may be completely FREE OF CHARGE, including books and parking.

emoticon

It's a training program for IT professionals who are between jobs. Sponsored by 40 local major corporations hosted by the Engineering School at WashU, it offers technical training to promising individuals so they may gain the skills for which employers are seeking most in an IT candidate.

There's just one last hurdle to clear, then Jeff will be starting the classes in two weeks. The .NET program track he'll be earning ends Nov 30.

Then it's just a matter of time before he finds a new job using his new certification in .NET application development. He was told that the fulfillment rate is extremely high for this new programming computer skill.

Needless to say, we are thrilled at this news!

Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. We are stronger because of friends like you!

Nutrition Lesson

Thursday, August 23, 2012

Today I didn't follow my three meals and two snacks at the regularly scheduled times. Now I'm regretting that decision. I should have made myself stop and eat instead of plugging along with my hectic day.

Now I have a headache and my last meal--finished just 30 min ago--is weighing so heavy on my stomach that I can't fall asleep.

The saving grace is that I stayed within my nutrition plan, consumed 7 fruits/vegetables and got in 10 glasses of water. Now to get rid of this headache and get some emoticon

Vision Board

Monday, August 20, 2012

These last couple days I've been accumulating the items I wish to add to my SparkPeople Vision Board.

This is not my first experience with creating such a thing. In my direct sales leader days, this was called a DREAM BOARD. I created one about 5 years ago and it still is located in my office. It's no longer valid as that company is long gone from my life. But I can still salvage some of the images for my SparkPeople Vision Board.

Do any of you have your own SparkPeople Vision Board completed? If so, take a picture and show me your way of doing it.

I know this is personal, but I want to see how creative others can be.

Spark on...
~ Lynn

Mine hasn't gotten past the "in my head" planning stages. Goals are not easy for me to set because I am afraid of failing.

I struggled with my vision board. I was going to have it done for New Year's Day, but I couldn't find all the images I wanted, so I planned it for my birthday, but again, the pictures I had didn't say it all. Aimed for Spring Equinox, new beginnings; nope! Finally decided it was never going to be perfect, so I just sat down and worked with what I had. It's a work in progress because I'm a work in progress.

Good luck with yours.

Just put in it what your visions are. Healthy, slimmer, $ signs for debt free maybe? a younger more fitter you? You're right.. it is personal and should be all about YOU. YOUR hopes, YOUR dreams, YOUR wishes and YOUR tomorrows. Good luck.

Job Search Update -- Me and My Guy

Sunday, August 19, 2012

Some of you read my earlier post from the first of the month sharing the recent disappointment that my DS lost his job.

Well, the situation has gotten a bit sadder as we try to sustain our happy home with little income from my p/t job. Jeff just learned Thursday that his unemployment benefits may not come through as we had planned. So we are bracing ourselves should we have to contest this decision and fight any denial of his rightful benefits due him after 6 years of service with this company.

On the brighter side, Jeff has had an interview and offer this past week for a commission-based insurance sales job. Selling has never been his thing and he's skeptical about the whole situation. Plus, they asked for $125 upfront to cover tests and insurance certification requirements. (Red flag immediately went up in my mind.)

Still, we keep looking for a better opportunity. My career before I met Jeff was in his industry--Information Systems/Technology. I still have many connections in that area via Facebook and LinkedIn. Through all these great links, I've been helping Jeff network in hopes that we find that RIGHT fit for him. It's a long, tedious process but a fruitful one, we trust!

If he can't find a great job, then maybe one will pop up for me! As luck would have it, in watching the public job posts for him, I discovered a work at home opportunity that is a perfect fit for me. Thursday I completed the online application. Today I had the first interview. It is all very exciting for me if it works out to my benefit! With my current p/t position at the church, in addition to another p/t position from home, I'll be bringing in a f/t salary.

Meanwhile, we continue to pray our novena to Saint Joseph the Worker, all the while trusting that the Lord will provide. Amen!

Thank you all for your prayers and kind thoughts as we weather this storm.

Your attitude is so positive and I know, the Lord will provide for the both of you as He has for me. What's for you, is for YOU and it will happen. Keep trusting in the Lord and believe it wil happen. Sometimes, He has to remove those obtacles that get in the way of our time with Him. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I wish you the best of luck. i have been out of work for more than 2 years now. I do not have that much expereince with a lot of jobs; outside of housekeeping, laundry, and activities in nursing homes. Plus i do not have any form of transportation. It is very frustrating. I have almost given up.
