http://nomnompaleo.com/ is one of my faves no one has mentioned. Particularly the green pork sliders and the asian ground beef lettuce cups.

The Paleo diet seems to work for some people, but not others, So if you start feeling sick or strange on it, I would not force myself to do it.

    Yay, a Vlog!

I'm sure you know, but Paleo doesn't necessarily mean low carb. It will just end up being unprocessed calorie dense carbs that are cut out.

Anywho... here are a few of my favorite sites for paleo recipes:

ent.com/
http://everydaypale
o.com/
http://www.foodrenega
de.com/
http://www.marksdail
yapple.com/

Hope those help!

I'm a vegetarian so I can't do paleo (gluten free vegan would just be insanity) BUT! I am trying to go gluten-free vegetarian...and trust me when I say I'm only now realizing how much freakin pasta I eat...

But AS a vegetarian I can totally respect and support the paleo diet...I wish the meat industry in the U.S. wasn't what it is but the whole idea and philosophy of eating all 'whole foods' is totally awesome!

here are some paleo links:

I hear you on the asking questions. There are a lot of things that get written on the board/wall during my CF class and I'm all like "WTF does that abbreviation stand for?" Nice job for almost being at Rx too! You'll find some are easy and others you just laugh at... at least that's what I'm finding.

Glad to hear you're keeping up with CF!

Worst Day yet....

Thursday, April 12, 2012

So it all started around lunch time yesterday... oh no I wasn't feeling good....

Should I leave work?? Should I skip CF??? Should I just go and lay down???

So here I m debating for the next 3 hours what I should do. After all that time.. work was over.
Now if i could make it through work I can make it through CF right??

I got there and all i wanted to do was sleep. The only reason I stayed was because I saw that my favorite trainer was teaching.. oh the motivation..

So we started with a 500 m row and can already tell this was going to be a long class.
Our warm up was basic stretching and light pushups.

LIft: Dead lifts

WOD
3 rounds for time
20 American KBS (16 kilo)
15 Burpees
Time: 8:11

So this is the first time I was the last one.. ugh. however it was nice hearing everyone yelling my name and cheering me on lol *sliver lining*

But I did it.. and that's something.

Debating if I'm going tonight. Still feeling weak. Maybe I will workout at home and go for a run.

Ok that's all. My work is having a potluck.. so I'm screwed for my eating today.. lol

When you feel that bad, it's much better to take a rest day than to try and do something as strenuous as Crossfit. Trying to do any kind of heavy exercise when you are sick can make your health worse and lengthen your recovery time.

Don't worry everyone has those days where you just don't feel like it. Good for you for sticking it out - I hope you feel better soon!

Don't be worried about taking a day off. All of your gains are going to come during your rest/recovery periods. Sometimes the body just needs a break. Maybe some active recovery, like a light run and lots of stretching. :)

Keep up the great work! Hope you feel better.

So jealous of the Mud Run and the Color Run. I also know you'll do awesome in the tough mudder and warrior dash. I know you can handle those challenges.

Awesome job on Christine... just think of the running as practice for your races.

Enjoy the day off!

Not sure what the wild life is like in the forests of San Jose, but east of San Diego mountain lions have picked off loan runners. So beware.

I live in Hawaii where there are no lions, tigers, or bears (Oh my) nor snakes!

I think the great combo of CrossFit and SparkPeople is ... it's like a highway ...
you can get off the highway here and there. When you're ready to get back on you can always find an on ramp!

Both groups will support you through any stage of your life and welcome you back where ever you're at, whenever it's right for you. EVEN after a week of self imposed slacking (nudge nudge!)

Taking a break from Crossfit is a good thing! Anyone would need a break after trying to keep up with brutal Crossfit workouts -- especially when you are new to it.

Great workout and great time... This is something I can do at home and since I wanted to run outside and get in some ST, I think I'm stealing this today.

Have fun at the box this week!

I Graduated Cross-Fit Elements Class

Saturday, March 31, 2012

Woo Hoo!! 1 month down a heck of a lot more to go!

Thurs was my last Elements class! Of course they save the best for last.. rings and rope!! Now I didnt do that well with the rings, I knew I wouldnt so no big deal. They showed us all the fun ways to use the rings for different types of exercise. But just for today we worked on dips. I used the assistant bands to help with dips and i did pretty well. I cant wait till i can do it all by myself!! We were also shown pullups on the rings.. OMG IT WAS HARD!! I got as far as bending my elbows just a little. My new goal in life is to be able to do 10 pull ups!! lol Next we worked on the rope.. Lets just say I got REALLY excited to work that rope.. lol I wanted to see if i could climb it because i knew its going to be in the Tough Mudder. So my first attempt was.. ok but my second attempt was awesome.. I claimed that rope like it was nothing.. So i was happy..

Ok now the WOD.. We did the same WOD we did on the first day so we can compare times.

300m ROW
15-9-6
Goblet Squats
Push Ups
Russian Twists
300m Row

First Day Time: 6:40
Thurs Time: 5:45

ALMOST A FULL MIN OFF!!!! WOOO HOO!!!!

I was super happy with my results. I cant wait till i get better and start seeing more results.

So now I'm done.. no more baby class.. I'm with the big kids now. I'm a little nervous to be the new kid again but that ok :) I am going to kick ass. :)

On another note.. has anyone done the CLEAN 21 day detox diet?? I m thinking about doing it. I bought the book and really consider it.. Thoughts?

If you thought Crossfit was tough up to this point, all you have experienced is Crossfit Kindergarten. Now you will be lumped in with all the tough, elitist, bad asses that Crossfit is know for.

AWESOME JOB. You'll love being in the real classes and it sounds like you're training will definitely have you ready for it. Chances are you won't finish first on "for time" WODs, but if your box is anything like mine, the support I get when I'm finishing up helps push me through.

As for the detox, I agree with what has already been said. If it involves fasting, I'd be nervous about pairing that with CF. I've looked at the Paleo diet which people at my box do with great results.

Good luck and can't wait to share your adventures in Crossfit with you!

Great job! A lot of people have a lot of problems climbing the rope!
I have never tried that Detox diet. My only reservation would be that you would be cutting out essential minerals and nutrients during this time. I would also recommend going to a Paleo diet. You will find cutting out the sugars and processed foods from your diet will make a tremendous difference in health and wellness.

Good luck!

woohoooo! you rock! Don't be nervous - there's a whole new group of supporters who are excited to get to know you and welcome you!

As long as you listen to your body and speak up if something hurts, you will not get injured. Just be honest with yourself and your coach and you'll be a-o-kay!

I don't know anything about the detox diet - I would consider asking your CF coach about how he/she feels about you doing it at the same time as CF - I don't know anything about it but if involves fasting and stuff you might not get the nutrients you need for CF?!

But if it's more like completely cutting out sugars and you can only eat a million carrots the first week or something like that as long as you are getting enough calories I think it'd be okay.

Have you considered the paleo diet? I'm a vegetarian so it's out of the question for me but I like the principals of eating a completely clean and unprocessed diet....
