Incidentally, I think your unfocused vlogs are highly motivational.
We're unseasonably warm here too. Makes it IMPOSSIBLE to focus on boring things like compound interest. Aaaaaarrrrgggghhhhh
Nooooooooo, don't go! I want you to stay and play. Sigh. Guess I'll go do something productive too.

Knock, Knock, Knock

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Knock, Knock, Knock.
More accurately...

BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!.. B-Freakin' BZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My thoughts ran from,
"FRAK that's loud, my kids are pseudo-sleeping, WTH?!"
"Oh h3ll no, the neighbours are not at my door at 11:30 p.m. to socialize again. They love this warmer (still cool) Ontario weather, it does somethin' to 'em, I swear!"
"OMG, I hope they did not catch me vlogging through the School Room window. Imma gonna die - or charge a viewing fee. I should charge. Cuz, I'm sure I made 'em laugh."

We have three ways of escape from our humble abode; I mean entries.

I check our regular in and out door. The one that my husband makes sure is locked like Fort Knox before he heads off for his Night Shift (you'll see later why his efforts are in vain and why I really may inadvertently send him to an early grave, and why I am at a loss that he doesn't have a total head of grey hair).

Anyway, no one there and the doorbell buzzes again.

Okay...this may NOT be my uberfriendly neighbours. Maybe it's the police?

"Oh, please no more neighbour's children being killed and coming to my door to help hunt down the parents to give them the information. Please. Please. Please. Please." I'm praying as I check the main street door. No police. Actually no one. At. All.

Side door? Who in their right mind would use that door?

I flip on the light and flood the perpetrators that have shattered my silence and my serenity. Scared the crap outta them too. GO ME! Now I have them stunned enough I can get a quick look at them.

Oh my word, they're just lost kids. Before my brain caught up with my hand the door was wide open.

Just today my sister, Twylightwunder the Military Police Officer was catching me up to speed on the horrific radio coverage of an Ontario girl that was abducted raped and murdered. We talked about teaching safety tactics to our kids. I had been a victim of rape and she knows I am blind to alternative motives. So, she keeps trying to teach me to be defensive.

Just these past couple of months my husband has joined me on Spark to protect me from creepers. Again, we see that I have no ability to detect someone with an alternative motive.

The young lady stands jacketless in soaking wet sneakers on my cold porch and is the spokesperson for the couple as her awkward boyfriend stands behind her on an invisible leash.

"We're sorry for disturbing you so late at night." She begins, "We see from your yard that you have children and we're not meaning to be rude. We're homeless and lost and...would you give us shelter?"

"Yes. Come on in." I replied as I further extended the door and ushered then into the small hall. I then directed them to the kitchen offering them food and drink.

[They didn't even call first! See, I can be hospitable...]

~You're stunned? So were they.

[My husband too when I called him 10 minutes later to let him know that while he was on his way to work after we've been told by our neighbours that we've had someone stalking us in a Dodge pick up truck almost daily and someone else (or the same someone) trying to enter into our home in the wee hours of the morning in the latter part of December... ]

"My name is, Liz" I extended my hand to the young lady.
"My name is, Sarah" ("OH GOSH", I thought, "my youngest daughter's name is Sarah...what if this was my daughter lost in the world like this?" ::cue sound of my heart breaking::)
Then she introduced the young man.
"This is Justin."
His hair reminded me Albert Einstien; light and wild looking. His look was lost and he did not look like the 'brightest crayon in the box'. My Johnathan is a full head taller than him and 20lbs heavier. My son is only old would this kid be? The soaking wet shoes he peeled off of his feet were size 11.5 and his feet were 10 at best. This boy needs a home. She may want to give it to him, but, she can't take care of herself.

We sat at the table and she did the talking for them. He was in need of care. He wasn't nervous; I would describe him as very weak and broken. Why I didn't know yet. She was determined to mother him. He just got out the hospital as the tag was still on his wrist. She had tried to instruct him to dispose of it when I wasn't looking. I told them that I had seen it. I'm not afraid of a hospital tag. It's not going to change my mind in helping but it will tell me how I can help. I told them that I understand mental health issues and they could tell I was sincerely unjudgemental and compassionate about wanting to help. So, whatever it is I want nothing but to get them where they want to go.

Wherever that was. Unfortunately, they didn't even know. She wanted him. He wanted , 'more than this' and not to be 'weak'.

"Dear God, You brought this young couple to our door. You are trusting me to love them on your behalf. I'm about to call my husband. He is going to scared for our family. Lead me."

Hubby was NOT impressed. Rightfully so. Seriously. Where was the thinking in this process? There was none. I was just following that little light. Sometimes it leads me to that Bug Zapper in life and I get burned sometimes like last night, it opens my heart to SONlight.

He immediately informed his work that there was a family emergency and came home. For a family that lives pay check to pay check, this was not 'small potatoes'. He knew I was prepared to put them up for the night and probably adopt them as my own. Smart man to come home. He had no idea what level of crazy just breached Fort Knox. His Diva couldn't tell ya the difference between a sheep and a wolf, so, Spock warp-sped home.

Now, I know why I had nights of insomnia this week. To prepare me for last night to help that couple. We didn't have them spend the night. We drove them to their destination instead which turned out to be the city's homeless shelter when their "friend" wouldn't answer the door and let them in.

We gave Sarah a jacket and shoes. She gave me hugs. Justin got a pair of shoes. He wanted to give me hugs. They just hung out in our home for a few hours watching movies and playing XBOX, but, they're in my heart forever.

Knock, knock, knock...
"I need to be loved, will you love me?"

Yes, come on in.

Matthew 25:31-37
“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

I don't like not knowing the ending to their story...but, I know who does and I'm talking to Him for them.

Back in the 70's, my dad picked up hitch-hikers all the time. He called his passenger's seat his "Jesus Seat", and would always remind, "Whatever you do, for the least of my brothers, so you do unto me."
Sadly, he had to curtail that mission when it just became too dangerous. Very sad, indeed, but true.
I am glad you were able to help the least of our brothers and sisters. I am very glad you called DH immediately because it *was* an emergency at home. These young people needed help and you needed some to have your back, in case ...
Sometimes we just act. So glad it turned out well for them and you.

so nice that you helped and that is true about God sending them to you as a act of your kindness. in the bible they were turned down many a times before someone finally helped. its always best to be the better person and give what you can even if you think its only little in your own eyes, in others such as your house guests last night, those gifts you shared with them will prob be remembered the rest of their life and by gifts I mean the love and kindness. not the material things.
