I am 42 and when I was 40 I hated the idea of turning the big 4 0 ....It took 2 years to come to terms with it and now I can look back and feel good about where I am. Now I N my 40's and want the healthiest 40's I can have. I will follow my very healthy husbands lead and enjoy this space I am in now. Christmas was great! Family and friends...25 for dinner. It worked out very well. Very nice. Hope my Sparkies are having wonderful holidays and ready to start an amazing 2013 with you all!

Feeling a cold coming on...ugggg. I'm glad I got soooo much done yesterday. Score! So I will get things done around here a little at a time. Drinking lots of tea and taking some cold medicine. Food wasn't great yesterday. I bought my Christmas candy for stockings and candy dishes on Christmas day. We will be having 23 for dinner! Luckily my mother in law makes a big pot of meatballs and sauce and brings it on over :). So I try to wait as long as possible to get the candy because I know I have a chocolate attack when it gets in my hands. I ate half a big bag of M&M's and one Reese's christmas tree :(. It could have been worse and I'm done now with that binge. Have a good day Sparkies!

I know it is hard. There is just so much junk food in my house. I did great for 7 days and then fell. But like you say, it could have been much, much worse. Let's forgive ourselves, move on, track. Never give up. Best wishes in overcoming that cold. Feel better!!

So it's Monday...here we go!

Monday, December 17, 2012

Last full week before Christmas! Sooo much to do! Oh well. What needs to get done will get done. It always does. Two eggs and two egg whites with low fat cheddar. I had a yogurt for snack. Now I'm counting down the minutes until lunch. Cottage cheese, steam broccoli and lowfat cheddar with some balsamic vinegar. I'm going to Zumba tonight at 5:30! Yay! Can't wait! I went yesterday and it was great! Just love my dance! Josh had a percussion holiday concert last night! Just beautiful! So proud! Have a good Monday my friends!

Out to dinner last night and made a revelation

Sunday, December 16, 2012

It the extra...Extra what you ask? The extra effort....every day. I've been ok. Not great but...ok. I'm not eating Christmas cookies. I'm not bringing on eggnog cheer. What I'm also not doing is being dilligent with my choices. We met great friends out for dinner last night. We hadn't seen them in a while. She is thin. Probably thinner than I would need to be but healthy. She is consistently thin. It doesn't matter when we get together she looks good. I ordered before her. I ordered a grilled sandwich with chicken. No dressing, no cheese. Just lettuce and tomato with fries on the side. Then she ordered. "I'll have a ceasar chicken salad with dressing on the side". Ugggg.... Even though I took the necessary items off my plate she made the right choice. I didn't eat my fries and didn't finish my sandwich but....that's why she makes it happen. Consistency...Then my sister inlaw was at a table near us with friends. I checked out what she ordered...guess...a chicken salad with dressing on the side. I know how to do this. It's every day. Every day! Let's do this!

Don't beat yourself up but I am so proud of you for making changes and we are not perfect and hopefully we will learn from our mistakes. Take care my friend!

I'm surprised. My thin friends never order the salad entree and certainly not with dressing on the side. They get the hamburger WITH fries or another lunch/dinner just as sumptious. However, they often don't finish their dinner. When they're full, they stop. It doesn't matter what's left on the plate. (They also tend not to take leftovers home; that will never be me!)

I find if I have a sandwich (and I do get them at times), I actually don't want a whole order of fries, so I'll get something lighter with it. I also try to split with others, if they're open to it. But I get the entree salad sometimes, too, because I enjoy it.

Choose the food that really satisfies you and slowly enjoy every bite. If you start getting full, take your time and have just a couple of more savored bites. Ask for a container and put the rest away. You can forget it on the table if you like... just don't be looking at the leftover food until you get more comfortable with quitting when you're full. You'll do this! emoticon

i think a grilled chicken sandwich, for dinner, seems like a solid healthier option. Salads are always a good choice, too. But you are right, its about making the right choice consistently-which is so hard with the holidays-but avoiding all the food pitfalls is good place to start.

You made a good choice for yourself. That's what it takes. And remember, you are on your own journey, not hers.

It is an everyday effort to eat healthy. Many of my thin friends eat salads and watch their weight. Good for you staying away from holiday goodies. I stayed away from all of the appetizers last night at a party..except for one jalapeno popper. I probably should have avoided that.

Good luck in the next days during the holiday. One day at a time and we can make good choices!

Nice blog.

Ugggg...not feeling today. I've been doing some soul searching lately. Too much thinking I think. Food hasn't been great. Maybe the holiday stress is getting to me. Hmmmm...I'd love to get some Zumba in but schedule won't allow it. I'm meeting a friend for lunch so that should help. One step at a time here.

You poor girl. Not feeling well and such.

Yes, get out and see your friend for lunch. Then get some rest. Quit thinking so much, I'm sure that is getting to you physically.

Get well soon.

One step at a time is good. If eating isn't good, what one thing can you do to improve? Is it fruits & veggies? Portion control on one thing, say, peanut butter? Choose at least one thing you can do to improve, do it, and then build on your success. remember that even 10 minutes of exercise counts. You can do it!!!

Keep pushing and try to remake your time schedule to fit exercise in even if you have to get up one hour earlier in the morning emoticon emoticon
