Friday, August 17, 2012

It's Friday! Happy for that. Adam's musical starts today. I'm so impressed by my son. Does that sound strange? Oh well...he is impressive :) He is so talented and handsome. He has been in 3 musicals and a lead in each :)...yup! He auditioned for a fall musical and yes a lead again!!!! He will be Sebatian in the Little Mermaid! How fun! choices are all over the place. Some moments sooooo good. Others not so much. I'm still dancing but I think I may try spinning again next week! I feel I need to mix things up a bit. Yay! Feeling excited about this. My favorite Sparkie advised me about getting a routine together in my life. I will work on this while she is on vacation and try to have one on the books! Have a great day Friends!

That is such a cool role to have for your son! I LOVE Sebastian! is the chef going to be able to pick him up and throw him in that hot, silver pot?!

Great that you're keeping active. Keep it up! Have a great weekend!

Our weekend was great! Had a blast! We went to Giants Stadium in New Jersey. We went to see Tim Mcgraw and Kenny Chesney. So fun! Alot of entertainment. The next day we headed into the city and went to see the Freedom Tower and the 911 Memorial Park. Very beautiful and very somber. Perfectly done. We just love the city. Food was pretty outstanding considering what we were doing. But.. yesterday I binged. Yup. I was so nervous because we had relativalwayses in from Rochester and having them makes me so anxious. So starting over binge free days today...

You have really got to talk to your therapist about why you get so anxious when relatives come over. I know that I do, when the odd on comes from my husband's side, but I get over it when they walk in the door.

I'm so glad that you had a good time in the city and went to that concert. I bet it was something!

Have a good, binge free day.

ok, time to find a different way to handle your relatives! I know you get nervous, but a binge is not the way to handle it. We'll have to find something for you to do instead. I will find something no matter how long it takes!

Asking for info...

Tuesday, August 07, 2012

Life is happening around here. I'm trying some added protein to my day. A Zumba friend told me that her trainer has her taking in as many grams of protein a day as she weighs...has anyone heard of this? She says she has lost alot because of this. We will see. Day 2 of adding Muscle Milk to my day. Not sure about it. Give me some feedback if you have any knowledge about this stuff. So today is ok. Haven't really been up to much.

How much protein do we need?
Our protein needs depend on our age, size, and activity level. The standard method used by nutritionists to estimate our minimum daily protein requirement is to multiply the body weight in kilograms by .8, or weight in pounds by .37. This is the number of grams of protein that should be the daily minimum. According to this method, a person weighing 150 lbs. should eat 55 grams of protein per day, a 200-pound person should get 74 grams, and a 250-pound person should eat 92 grams.
R>Here is another site to check out.

Hope that helps you with finding some answers.

I'd heard this recommendation before - and actually asked whether it was supposed to be a gram to a pound (or a gram to a kilogram). It is pound. However, there's a lot of conflicting information out there - just about every site has some variation. The key that I've found is that the gram per pound is typically a body-building recommendation or for someone who is very active.

(And, of course, eating more protein has to be balanced - it doesn't mean we can eat more calories. Too much protein can cause issues, just as too much of just about anything can. As long as we're getting all the other nutrition we need at the same time, more protein can have benefits.)

SP gives me a range of 60-150 grams for protein. So, eating a gram per pound I certainly would be in range. I'm no expert, but I would say try it. Won't hurt. Might help.

I've never tried Muscle Milk before. When I need a little protein boost, I like to grab for some Weight Watchers or Fit And Active cheese sticks. They are lower in fat but give you a kick for the protein and calcium.

Wow, now I'm going to research that just out of curiosity. Initially, I would say in ranges from 40-70 is normal but most people are sedentary, do more, it really is irrelevant. I do know there are calculators out there that can tell you should do according to the exercise. Like I said, I'm gonna study up on this one!

Mistakes happens. I'm amazed lately when I actually realize why I"m doing what I'm doing. Next is taking this information and finding other ways to deal with those reasons. I am a work in progress...but at least I'm progressing. Right? will be good. I'm getting things accomplished here. Score. Zumba was better last night. I'm psyched about the class tonight. Bring it! Life it good. Have a great day Sparkies!

Annoying myself...

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

Ugggg....healthy breakfast...yummy greek yogurt with almonds...lunch not great at a diner with a cup of chicken soup and half of a roasted turkey on wheat. Sounds healthy but it unexpectedly came with mayo on it and the soup was super salty. Soooooo... I came home and had low fat cottage cheese then.....8 snack size ice cream bars!!!! Yes thats what I said ..8!!!!! I need to be accountable. Feeling so bad about this. I am going to Zumba tonight. I will feel better after this. I'm feeling bummed out. I think its the post vacation blues. I do remember having them before. I am also bummed that I'm not going on our trip to Buenos Aires. We found out yesterday that Joe's boss won't let him have the time from work. That is disappointing. Ok so I've determined the cause...That's good. I've also made myself accountable. Let's move on...again...

Tomorrow is a very important day for you. Even NOW is a very important time. Mastering the skill of getting back on track may be -- probably is -- the most important skill for long term maintenance.

Don't try to cut back too much tomorrow. Try to eat smart. Drink plenty of water. Have plenty of fiber and protein. Honor your hunger. Know that when you've been overeating often your body wants to keep overeating, at least mine does. Best wishes for a great tomorrow and many more great days to come!! As long as you don't let this get you down, you'll be fine. Take care.

OK, so having a salty lunch and then washing it down with 8 ice cream bars is not good, it could have been worse. What if you hadn't stopped there? At least you came to your senses and didn't keep on binging. Enjoy Zumba and try to get back on track with a fresh start in the morning.
