unbelievable support

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

So today was our second day of school. Ive seen many students that i taught last year. The support has been unreal. Students see me and their mouths drop open. Some run up and hug me, some make hilarious hs comments like "u arent fat anymore!", some say they are proud and give me high fives, some said u look better now, some say you are skinny!, some say way to go, and others that i taught two yrs ago actually didnt know who i was. One kid who was also on the wrestling team that i helped coach last yr was so excited to see me he ran up, hugged me, then picked me up! It was the most terrifying experience ever! I screamed and told him to put me down lol. He is my height and probably 10 lbs lighter than me. I dont like having my feet off the ground and not being in control with no warning, plus it was embarrassing.... but it was also nice that he was able to pick me up haha. A bigger kid did that to me last year during wrestling season when i was 215 and although he played it off im sure in his head he said woah that b!tch is heavy hahaha. My kids r very honest. Last yr they wld look at my pics from when i was thin and ask if i had had a child. They would ask what happened. Some said they needed to get me to a gym (in a rude hs loving way lol). It never bothered me that much cuz it was facts. They wld say i was hot before and i shld lose weight. Strange compliments but thats kids. I have lost between 50-55 lbs since feb, but i guess those 3 months away were dramatic. It is nice to get brutal honesty thats positive for once. Its nice when kids proudly tell their friends to stop by ur room to see how good u look. I in no way measure the happiness ;f my life by high school opinions, but it was nice getting so much support from them and feeling like they were rooting for me.

Nice job!! What age do you teach? Such honest reactions! My (then) teenage brother's friend told me I was fat. I wasn't even at my heaviest weight then. Kids

I teach middle school. 8th grade before and now 7th.

My old principal gasped when she saw me and said "You've lost 100 pounds!!" (But it was 50...some people didn't recognize me. It's a nice feeling.

Oh that has got to be an amazing feeling to be noticed of your weight loss! For me it took the same amount of time as you, about three months, for someone to notice I lost weight. Funny thing, it was one of the security guards at my office. She pulled me over and I'm thinking to myself, "I have my work badge! Why are you stopping me?" She said, I don't know what you are doing but something has changed about you but I think you have lost weight? Her just saying that made my three months of hard work feel like it's paid off, to have someone actually notice! I told her yes I have lost 20lbs and she was like "what are you doing to lose the weight?" She didn't like my honest answer, eating healthy and exercise! HAHA My husband told me that she probably noticed because I finally wore pants that fit and he is probably right. It was my "skinny jeans" day and I am sure my weight loss was more noticeable then wearing my baggy @ss 14 pants!
You should be so damn proud! I know I was! You look amazing girl!

I think there is something to be said for being young enough to not have developed the 'filters' we have as adults!
My son (almost 14) is brutally honest and he makes a point of saying...I am not trying to be mean. LOL...I guess that softens the blow!
You look great, Sara!

Pina Colada Protein Shake

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

This is my favorite so far...

1 c frozen pineapple
2 c Coconut breeze original coconut drink
.5 tbsp sugar free vanilla pudding powder

It makes around 4 cups (406 cal total).

my terrifying buffet experience

Sunday, August 26, 2012

So my bf and his friend decided to eat at Golden Corral buffet. I have been here once yrs ago, so i went and thought i could find food that would work for me. The moment i walked in i was terrified and uncomfortable. People were running around like someone was going to steal their food. There were crazy lines and i was surrounded from all sides by bad food... mac and cheese, choc fountain, breads, fried chicken, cakes, brownies, etc. Obese people were running around and desperately pushing each other. People are walking around with 3 plates stacked on their arms. It is unbelievable. I got a salad with lite balsamic dressing, a tiny bit of mashed potatoes, some steak, and some grilled chicken. I also got some fruit. I had a water. I couldnt wait to leave. I felt like a drug addict in a drug storage room at a police station. It was the most eye opening experience. I do not want to be one of those fat people running around in fear that the food is going to be gone when they get to the counter. Most people scarffed down 3-5 plates of food in less than an hour. It was like they were handing out free money. That is not me!

I agree. Every time we go to Golden Corral (unfortunately, it's one of the few places my kids just love...and not JUST for the dessert's one of the only places they will eat brocolli - GO FIGURE), there are obese families and it just makes me feel so sad. And most of the time, people have a plate full of food with nacho cheese on everything. Like...EVERYTHING. It is disgusting.

It's not just the food that bothers's seeing so many with such a complete disregard for themselves. It is definitely eye opening. And to realize that THIS is America...heartbreaking.

I HATE going to Golden Corral. It's expensive and the food really isn't that good. My experience there has been pretty similar to yours. The people are just down right scary....shoving all that gross food in as fast as they can! I wasn't quite as good as you though, I did get more than a salad! But I told the BF that I never wanted to go there again.

I have never been a buffet girl...
Unlike the people you saw...I would never eat my "money's worth". I hate going to them. I hate the atmosphere and I hate gluttony.
That is exactly what you see there.
I went to a graduation party years ago that was at some Chinese buffet, there was a man that was literally wedged into the booth. Honestly, I am not sure how he got in.
And I am not trying to be mean!
Anyways, he had family (?) with him and they just kept going back and getting more food for him.
It was just awful to see.
With the rising levels of obesity in our nation (world!), you would think buffets would be more of a target than banning diet sodas, etc!

I completely understand - I think I've been there twice? maybe just once, but I know what you mean. I get really uncomfortable too. It's sad and horrifying and disgusting all at the same time. Mainly sad I think. Well - you made it through! :) And next time they want to go there I say let them go by themselves - eww!

Good job watching what you ate there. I don't like buffets either. I never know what to get, feel like I combine weird foods, and don't feel satisfied. I prefer to order something and stick to that and if it's a big portion, I'll share or take some leftovers.

Yeah, not a good place to be...and we have all been conditioned to believe that free food or unlimited quantities means we should try to eat as much as possible! Good job deciding to stay away in the future!

I have had the same experience at a buffet, a little boy was sticking his finger in stuff and liking it then going back for more, then a guy with a butt hanging out of the front of his shirt nearly stepped on me. Yuck not for me either.

Pinchos- this was my favorite. The roadside stands were awesome! It was $2 for a kabob... they were grilled wonderfully and so tasty. I came home and made some myself (I have the recipe on spark recipes if you are interested. They turned out well). The one pic is a picture of the ones I made at home.

Old San Juan

Tour of the Castillo Serrales (castle- they used to make rum there too)

Puerto Rico (pics part 1!)

Friday, August 24, 2012

So I am set up for school to start on Monday so here is an update on my trip. I only gained 3 lbs on my trip, so I am very happy with that. I swam in the pool one day and we went on a 2 mile hike up some crazy paths in the rainforest another day. I wanted to go to the fitness center at the hotel, but it didn't work out. However, I am proud that I was able to go hiking like I did when i would've never imagined doing anything like that before!

I had some pina coladas, but still no soda. I had a lot of grilled pinchos (chicken kabobs). I had some fried foods and some rice, but I thought overall I did pretty well. I enjoyed myself and it was the best vacation I've ever been on. We stayed at the Hilton in Ponce. It was incredible. Our room was at the end of the hall with the double doors! Talk about feeling like royalty! We had TWO ground floor patios that opened up to the beach.

We did SO many activities when we were there. No two days were the same. We went to the Bioluminescent bay on Vieques Island. We took a boat ride to the island, a van to the restaurant, had dinner, then a crazy bus ride through the worst roads I could've ever imagined to the boats that took us on the bay. The boat ride to the island was choppy and the bus was crazy, but SO MUCH FUN! There are microorganisms in the bay that light up kind of light lightening bugs when the water is agitated... so the water would glow blue when a fish would swim or when the boat moved through the water. You could also see every star in the sky and the tour guides talked about different consellations. Hands down the coolest thing I've ever seen. We went to a marina in ponce, which was neat. My bf got to see some racing at the track not far from our hotel (the main reason for our trip being that week). We got to tour a castle. I got a massage. We went to the mall. We went to a really cool restaurant in San Juan and a night club for our friends birthday (I wore flipflops there but changed into those heels I posted pics of last blog. I wore them confidently for 3 hrs!). Our friends we went with got engaged at the castle! It was just the best vacation ever.

Ready to go

Airport pics

Beach pics

Bio Bay pics (note- pics of the actual bay were not taken by my camera. Cell phone cameras can't pick up the light. You can change your settings on fancier digital cameras and get these pictures)

San Juan hotel and casino (the club was in this hotel)

Club Brava

Bf and him making fun of how I take outfit pics of myself lol

Dinner at Zest in the Waterfront hotel in San Juan. BEST dinner of my life

El Yunque rainforest and waterfalls that are in that rainforest. Awesome hike and awesome waterfalls!
