Protein shakes and pics

Monday, August 06, 2012

So today I woke up not feeling great. My bf wanted to get up early so we can get things done this week. We set the alarm for 7:30, but he was up at 6:30. My body was expecting 7:30, so I slept a little longer. I think I ended up getting up at 8. I know this isn't "early", but I am used to going to bed around 1AM, so I am not in early morning mode yet.

When I woke up I felt pretty run down. I just started my TOM, so I think that is why my stomach felt upset and that i was fatigued. I decided to go to the gym, but was NOT looking forward to it. I was planning on walking on the treadmill for an hour or so that way I could follow through with doing some sort of exercise. I got there and walked for 12 mins and then for some reason I decided to start jogging. Once I started I was on a pretty good roll. I usually don't listen to music while I run, but I did today. I was pumped up and my body felt pretty good (better than it did when i was at home). I could see myself in the reflection of the tv attached to the machine (which was turned off). I have to say, I really liked how I looked when I was running. My hair is getting long and looked like that "cute pony tail girl jogging down the street". I liked how my arms and shoulders and chest looked. I liked how my neck looked. Even though I was sweating up a storm and I was running I thought I looked pretty fantastic. It motivated me to keep going. A few times I was able to make it to my 5k pace (12:30 min mile). I usually am not able to go this fast on the treadmill. I felt like the running was more natural and i wasn't fighting with my legs (normally I feel like my legs are all over the place and I don't really get into the "rhythm" that ppl talk about). Overall, I worked out for an hour and went 4 miles. THe first 12 mins I walked a half mile and the rest of the time I pretty much jogged the whole time. I was pretty proud of myself. I was thoroughly ok with walking the whole time, but felt awesome that I did more than I had planned. I was proud that I felt like a "runner" and wasn't struggling with myself while I was running. I feel like it is getting easier. I know 4 miles in an hour isn't breaking any records, but it's better than my previous times (see below)

Old treadmill times. My workout today was faster than all of these workouts even though I walked at the beginning (except for one).
-30 min. 1.47 miles
-38 min. 3 miles (this is when I ran the whole time in preparation for my first 5k, so this was faster than what I did today)
-120 min. 6.76 miles
-57 min. 3.48 miles
-41 min. 2.14 miles
-75 min. 3.8 miles
-65 min. 3.4 miles
-60 min. 2.86 miles

When I got home I took a shower and went to lunch with my (adopted) godson (i.e. one of my students who graduated two years ago who calls me his god mommy). He had questions about his financial aid letter so we went to TGIF and i helped him with that. I had a salmon dish that was pretty good.

I did my hair curly today. I used to do it curly/scrunched everyday in high school, but wasn't really happy with the product I used. It got crispy and I didn't really like that. I tried something else today. It got kind of frizzy when it was completely dried, but I was still pretty happy with it. It was a nice "on the go" hairstyle. I might try that once school starts and I am working out before school. We shall see.

When I got home from lunch my bf and I took a nap. I decided to try some of LDRICHEL's protein shake recipes. THey look SO fantastic, so I wanted to give them a try. I wanted to try the Strawberry Chocolate CHeesecake recipe, but I found out my grocery store doesn't sell cheesecake pudding mix, so I used vanilla instead.

Strawberry Chocolate Protein Shake
1 c. skim milk
1 scoop chocolate protein powder
.5 tbsp unsweetened cocoa
1 tbsp sugar free vanilla pudding mix
1 c frozen strawberries
3 ice cubes

This makes SO much! I would estimate that it makes between 3.5 and 4 cups of protein shake. It was VERY thick. I am still working on finishing it, but it is quite tasty. I had used 1 tbsp of the cocoa, but next time I will only use a half. It was a little too cocoa-y for me. It was 313 calories.

I made a Cookies and Cream Protein Shake for my bf. This was much tastier, but the pudding mix wasn't sugar free so that probably explains it lol.

Cookies and Cream Protein Shake
8 ice cubes
2 tbsp cookies and cream pudding mix
.5 tbsp unsweetened cocoa
1 scoop chocolate protein powder
.5 tbsp sugar free vanilla pudding mix
1 c milk

It also made a lot (3.5-4 cups). Again, it was very tasty and not as thick. 370 calories. I personally wouldn't drink this on a regular because it's a little higher in calories than I would like, but it was good.

I bought another frozen fruit mix (mango, pineapple, strawberry, etc.) and vanilla protein powder, so I am looking forward to trying different combinations. I am thinking that I will bring a shake to school for breakfast, but it will probably take me most of the day to drink lol. It might be easier if I buy straws.

Here are the pictures of my outfit today and my hair. Overall a good day, despite a rocky start. I am looking forward to working out more this week and my Puerto Rico vacation next week:)

Gains from losing! (pics)

Friday, August 03, 2012

Today was one of the most exciting days of my life. At my apartment I have a walk in closet full of clothes. They are all "skinny" clothes from when I had lost weight in college. I haven't touched them since I graduated in 2009. When I was in the closet the other day getting something else I noticed that one of the tags said a size 10. Wait a minute!? I am a size 10 now! Today I decided to try on my old clothes... AND THEY FIT! I literally gained at least 30 new outfits! Most of them still have tags on them. A lot of them are "teacher clothes" I had bought when I had graduated, but there were some bikinis, beachy dresses, interview suits, etc. I actually have clothes I could wear to an interview if I wanted!!! It has been 3 years since I have been able to wear these clothes! Everything fit comfortably. There were a few size 8 skirts that were slightly tight, but wearable. I am estatic! I didn't try everything on in the closet, but here are some pictures of the stuff I did try on.

Last night my bf and I went to a Brazilian Steakhouse with two other couples. It was a great time! I haven't seen the one couple in several months, so they were very surprised at my appearance. It is my favorite restaurant ever... all you can eat meat! They bring 15 types of steaks, lamb, pork chops, ribs, and chicken to you and cut it onto your plate. It is incredible! I have it down to a science now. I pass up a lot of the meat that they bring around so I can focus on the cuts I really like (the house sirloin is my favorite).

They cut a thin piece of the end and that is what you are served versus a huge hunk of steak. I love the flavors! It is like nothing I've ever had. I pace myself well and don't leave uncomfortably full. I don't eat much of the cheesy rolls (pao de queijo) or any of the sides (mashed potatoes, polenta, or caramelized bananas). I take very little at the salad bar (some spinach with a little bit of italian dressing, broccoli, and asparagus). I don't eat much the rest of the day, so I don't think that I was too bad with calories. I factored in a pound of meat, but I'm pretty sure I didn't eat that much... but to be on the safe side that's what I entered in. It is fantastic. I wore my new Kohl's outfit.

    AWESOME!
Doesn't it feel great? I did a major closet cleanout this summer - packed away and got rid of a TON of clothes that were just too big, and discovered many old (new) things to wear. I could feel your excitement reading your blog - and was reliving my own from a few weeks ago. (Thanks!)

Keep up the great work! You're looking fantastic!

I think you did great - especially passing up the bananas :)

Back to School Workout Plan (beware non-schedule ppl!)

Thursday, August 02, 2012

If you are not a schedule/list kind of person then beware. This blog is NOT for you! I was really trying to brainstorm my weekly options for once school starts... Here is my idea.

Mon
Get up at 4AM. Leave the house at 4:30.
Gym from 4:45-5:45. Shower and dry hair. Leave gym at 6:30 (I might need more time, but we'll give it a try)
School by 7.
School from 7:40-2:20
I don't have my lunch schedule yet (there are 3 lunch periods). We'll say for now that lunch is from 10:50-11:20. During that time I am doing to do stability ball or resistance band videos.
Sometimes we have meetings after school that usually don't go later than 3
Go to pole place. Independent pole practice until 4:45
Floor/Chair class from 5-6

Tues
Up at 4AM. Leave house at 4:30.
Gym 4:45-5:45. Shower, dry hair. Leave gym at 6:30. School by 7
School from 7:40-2:20
10:50-11:20 strength training during lunch (stability ball or resistance band)
Grad class from 4:30-8:15

Wed
Up at 4AM. Leave house at 4:30.
Gym 4:45-5:45. Shower, dry hair. Leave gym at 6:30. School by 7
School from 7:40-2:20
10:50-11:20 strength training during lunch (stability ball or resistance band)
Coach class/tutoring from 2:30-3:30
Grad class from 5-7:30

Thurs
Up at 4AM. Leave house at 4:30.
Gym 4:45-5:45. Shower, dry hair. Leave gym at 6:30. School by 7
School from 7:40-2:20
10:50-11:20 strength training during lunch (stability ball or resistance band)
Yoga at 6:30 or 7:30 (depending when my friend wants to go)

Fri
Up at 4AM. Leave house at 4:30.
Gym 4:45-5:45. Shower, dry hair. Leave gym at 6:30. School by 7
School from 7:40-2:20
10:50-11:20 strength training during lunch (stability ball or resistance band)
6:00 Sexy Stretch class at pole place

Sat
10:15 zumba

Sun
11:30 pole 2 class

This gives me a day to practice what I learned in pole class on my own, one chair/floor class, one sexy stretch class, and 1 pole 2 class. It also allows me to take classes from the 2 instructors I like. I don't want those relationships to slip, so I want to make sure I can continue to take their classes. This also lets me take the yoga class I LOVE. Zumba is flexible and is offered A LOT, so it can also be moved around. This gives me 5 days that I am doing cardio in the morning and 5 days that I am doing strength training during lunch.

I am SOOOOO excited to give this a try!

I go back to school on the 13th and am trying to figure out a schedule for myself as well. I'm not a member of a gym, nor do I have access to organized classes (living and teaching in a very small town), so everything will be on my own or with colleagues when possible. Schedules are the only way I stay on top of everything in my life! Thanks for some ideas for thought!

But I think my exercise time will have to be in the evenings. 4am wake-up calls won't happen since I have a hard time falling asleep and need all the shut eye I cant get before I head out the door at 7am. Don't forget to schedule time to eat a bite! emoticon

HAHA I'm a night workout person as I like to relieve stress after a hard day. Good luck to your schedule, sounds like you have a good plan with options!

Aug Goals

Thursday, August 02, 2012

So I am loving everyone's posts on their goals for the month. I am nervous to make a list of goals because I can already think of things that will get in the way. On the 15th I am going to Puerto Rico and as soon as I get back I go back to school. This is obviously going to impact my normal exercise routine. However, this is kind of a list for Aug/Sept.

First goal- Burn at least 2000 calories a week. I just took the leap and changed my fitness goals to reflect that so my calorie ranges increased.

Right now my schedule is Zumba 1 day a week, Yoga 1 day a week, and pole or chair class a few times a week. I have also been doing running/walking a few times a week. I still haven't gotten down to a regular strength training routine, but the pole/chair classes help with that too.

When school starts here is my schedule so far...

Mon- meeting after school
Tues- class 4:30-8:15
Wed- tutoring after school, class 5-7:30
Thurs- Yoga
Fri-
Sat- maybe bartend?
Sun- maybe bartend? not sure what the schedule will be

I still want to try to do pole and chair classes a few days a week. I will do zumba with my friend, but I'm not THAT much in love with it that I would want to do it by myself. My ultimate goal is to try to get up early and start in a morning workout routine (whether this be running/walking or strength training). I also want to start either a resistance band or stability ball routine during my lunches. Until school starts and I start playing with sleep and my schedule I won't really know how that's going to play out... so it's hard for me to say at this moment what my exact goals are. Food hasn't been an issue for me, so I guess I my goal is to continue to stay within my ranges, but again that hasn't been a problem. I want to continue to cut up fruit and snacks for lunches and stay planned ahead so I don't eat out.

This seems kind of wishy washy for me, but I'm not sure what else to include. I am hoping by the end of Sept to have an exact schedule of what I'm going to do.

Good job thinking about some goals you want to achieve, even if you don't have them all planned out, you can always make adjustments. You made a good choice to change your fitness tracker. You set the bar high and you can meet it. So funny because I just adjusted my tracker to say the same and I was afraid to make the change. I was afraid I would not meet it. So far, it was a good choice! emoticon emoticon

Travel down weight loss lane (pics)

Wednesday, August 01, 2012

So the bad thing about loooooving my new sexy body is that I spent way too much money at Kohls. lol. BUT I am a size 10 womens and 13 juniors! Everything I grabbed off the rack fit! I felt SO sexy. I spent around $180, BUT I saved over $190. Woohoo! I bought 2 belts, a black pair of flip flops (the reason for my trip lol), 2 more pairs of yoga shorts for pole class, a top, a pair of capris (the second reason for my trip), a pink pair of jean material shorts, a purple pair of jean material shorts, a tube skirt, a longer burgandy jean material skirt for school and another skirt that was actual blue jean. I think that's everything! lol. Here's a pic of the tube skirt and shirt. No more XL clothes for me:)

Here is a little journey from Dec/Jan 2012- Old Sara (215 lbs. Size 16-18).

Most of those pictures were taken when I got a new hair cut. I didn't really take many pictures at other times. P.S. That's my nephew- I've never had a baby.

So HERE are my pictures from today:) (168 lbs)
