New pole accomplishment

Monday, July 16, 2012

So I went to open pole practice today at the pole dancing place versus a formal class. It was a lot of fun. I was the only one there. It was great having the music on and being able to see myself in the mirror wall. So much fun! And i burned more calories than usual (675 in an hour this time). The instructor that I really like was there so I asked her to show me a few things. I was able to climb up the pole! This is a HUGE accomplishment for me and I can't wait to get better at it. Basically you have your right leg up high with the top of your foot and the outside of your calf holding onto the pole. You step up on that leg while pulling with your arms and then you wrap your left leg around the pole and help pull yourself up with the skin on the inside of your knees/thighs. Then you lift your arms higher and pull yourself up a second step with your arms and your thighs. I could only get one step up. Once I let my legs go to try to pull up to a second step my arms couldn't hold me and I slid down. Let me say, this is pretty painful! My entire body weight is being held on by the pole pulling against my skin lol. I felt like my skin was going to rip off and I already have bruises on the top of my foot and my thighs lol. Oh well. It was a blast. I think as I get stronger, lighter, and my legs get tighter climbing will be easier. Right now there's a lot of flab that's being ripped against the pole versus a tight clench. Here is a pic of the beginning of the move that I did.

The difference was that I had both hands on. From the position she is in I stepped up straight and put my arms up higher. I just couldn't get another step up. I was about knee/mid-thigh height off the ground, so not too shabby for my first attempt. I have to say I felt probably one of the sexiest I ever had when I was there dancing by myself to the music and just having fun with spins and moves. There were a few times I was a little overzealous and was dangerously close to busting my @ss. lol Good thing they don't have cameras in there. It was probably pretty entertaining looking from the outside.

Baseball game, trail walk, weight loss, and pics

Sunday, July 15, 2012

So yesterday I went to an Oriole's baseball game with my dad. It was a lot of fun. We got there around 1:30 and the game started at 4. We ate at a restaurant in the stadium before the game. I had a Jack Daniel's BBQ burger, but I got chicken breast instead of a burger and took the buns off. It was pretty tasty. I had gotten my dad the O's Legends package for his bday and fathers day. It's 2 tickets to each of the 6 games where they are honoring Oriole's legends. Everyone at the game gets a replica statue of the bronze statues being presented at the game. He was pretty excited about it. I splurged and got the best tickets for each of the game, so for this game we were 19 rows from the front right on the edge of the row. Cushioned seats and shade! Can't beat that.

Today I played tennis in the morning with a friend and then decided to take a walk around part of the reservoir near our house. It is 11 miles all the way around. I went 3.69 today. It is very pretty, but I've never had the nerve to just try walking it. It is fairly hilly, but nice scenery. So I started out walking in the shoulder, but then the shoulder disappeared so I walked in the grass. However, this became VERY difficult. The grass was about midcalf high and was more like a field versus if you were walking in your freshly mowed yard. I was stepping very high and my legs were starting to itch. It was around 89 degrees today (heat index 93), but the humidity high was 97%. There were a few times where the road went over little creeks, so i walked on the road instead of the grass for those. When I got to as far as I wanted to go before I turned around to head back I decided to walk in the road on the way back. This was much better! I know bikes are allowed to be in the road, but I've never really been sure what the rules are for people. The speed limit around the reservoir isn't that fast, but at this point I didn't really care and I walked in the road. I know you are supposed to walk against traffic and bike with traffic, so I walked against traffic near the side/curb. People saw my neon pink tanktop and neon yellow sports bra and no one had to struggle to get out of my way. Everyone slowed down well in advance and went around me. I've always kind of been the person that wants to get out of everyone's way and doesn't like to be a burden, but I was past the point of caring. You are driving in your AC... I am walking up this hill in the sun and heat trying not to die.... kiss my butt lol. Sometimes I've had to go around bike riders that were 3 ride before on very narrow, windy roads... I was not inflicting this inconvenience on people. I was walking directly next to the curb and was not 3 wide. If they were so close to me that i had to move off the road up on to the grass they would've hit the curb and blown out a tire anyways, so i stopped feeling bad. All in all I feel good about the day. I burned a total of 1233 calories today and i enjoyed the walk. My goal is to eventually walk around the entire reservoir, but maybe not during a hot afternoon. That sounds more like an early morning trip versus the hottest part of the day lol.

I really enjoyed the walk. I'm also feeling good about still steadily losing weight. It seems like after big loss days the next day it goes up a good amount... but overall by the end of the week I am still losing. I mean, this past week I lost 3.8 and the week before was 2.8! I couldn't ask for anything more. I know I have been giving it my all and I have been eating right. I log everything and I exercise most of the days of the week. I would still like to start running more to help keep on track for my half marathon in October, but I am also really enjoying taking exercise classes almost every day of the week. I don't have a specific goal for the half marathon... I would just like to finish. Even if I walked the whole thing I would be proud of myself. I have another 5k next weekend, so I should practice more during this week, but I'm not stressed about it. I am enjoying the ride and where the journey is taking me. It's nice to see people you haven't seen in a while and for them to flip out about how much different you look. It's also nice to get hit on by strangers in public lol.

Here are my weight loss numbers for each week since I started back on my journey...

Beginning of 2012.... -2
2/5-2/12... -3
2/12-2/19... -1.6
2/19-2/26... -1.2
2/26-3/4... -2.6
3/4-3/11... -3.8
3/11-3/18... -2.4
3/18-3/25... -4.4
3/25-4/1... 0.4 (slight gain, but huge loss week before)
4/1-4/8... -0.4
4/8-4/15... -2
4/15-4/22... -5.8
4/22-4/29... 1 (gain, but enormous loss week before)
4/29-5/6... -1.8
5/6-5/13... -2
5/13-5/20... -1.2
5/20-5/27... -2.8
5/27-6/3... -0.6
6/3-6/10... -1.8
6/10-6/17... -1.6
6/17-6/24... -1
6/24-7/1... -0.8
7/1-7/8... -2.8
7/8-7/15... -3.8

Here are my last updates for photos. I took these when I was hanging at my apartment on Friday waiting for my car to get taken care of. I would still like to get smaller, more toned, tighter, and more muscular... but for now I am happy with how things have come along. I also liked in the second picture when I was laying in bed how my shoulders and arms looked. When I lost weight the first time I was pretty focused on the number and never really paid attention to things like muscle definition and toning and such... which is probably why I didn't stick with it, but right now I am liking how things are going.

Total since Feb 2012 I have lost the following totals...
Hips- 7 in
Waist- 6.75 in
Neck- 1.5 in
Stomach- 11 in
Chest- 6 in
Ribs- 4 in

I'm not sure how well this photo will show up, but that is comparing the first time I did SP in 08 to now. When I started this time my hips and stomach were 2 inches bigger. I think my stomach looks stranger now than it did when I lost weight the first time, but I think that's because overall before I was thicker. Now that I am getting muscular you can notice the fat on my stomach, but the rest of me is more toned. I have noticed my hip bones sticking out more and overall feeling smaller than I was then.

Land of the 160's and medium shorts

Thursday, July 12, 2012

So I am officially in the land of 160's (169.6 to be exact lol). I went to target to get some shorts for pole dancing class. I had bought a pair of tight "running" shorts for the first class and felt so self-conscious I didnt wear them again. However, I think I'm ready for some looser, exercise shorts. I found SOOOO many pairs! PLUS some of them were MEDIUMS! They are like the style of "booty" shorts that I would wear to sleep, but I think I'm ready to bust them out at class. If people of various sizes and ages can shake their hoohaa in my face at class then why not return the favor. Haaaa! I also found a maxi dress that I LOOOOOVE! I am entering the world where I can wear cute clothes without a bra! WHOOOO KNEW! I've been wearing a bra since at least the age of 9-10, but maybe before. When I was a kid i would even wear a bra to bed because I was embarrassed. Well today I am happy with how i look and it's only getting better. Eat your heart out SP:) lol

Here's a pic of the shorts. Can't say i'm ready to wear them out and about... that would be quite a show. lol. But i'm ready to try shorts for some of my exercise classes.

Diary of a Pole Dancer

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

So I am SUPER pumped! I just did a level 2 pole dance move in class that I couldn't do on monday.

Yes, it was only for a few seconds and it did not look as graceful as that, but I did it! The instructor was very impressed at how much better I was since monday and that i had decided that i was going to do it so i did it! I used this stuff called dry hands that helps with sweaty hands so i wasn't sliding as bad. I was glad to find out that i am not as weak as I thought i was, but my biggest problem was my hands sliding. Woohoo:) I feel very accomplished. I can't wait to go back and try to get better at it.

Here is a picture update from last night. We went to see a friend dj downtown. I had gotten back from zumba class and felt very energized so I did my hair and thought I would make myself up. I felt pretty sexy.

I am also getting quicker at doing my hair. Before I would only do it once or twice a year because it would take a long time to dry because it's so thick and i was lazy with it. I didn't feel like it was worth putting effort into myself so i was slobby most of the time. It was nice coming home and doing it, even though it was in the evening. I want to wear it down more so i get used to having it down and don't have to fuss about it getting in my face.
