Con-Volution 2013

Tuesday, November 26, 2013

Went to my first Sci-Fi/Fantasy Convention a few weeks back. Here's what I wore:

Day 1 was my "Impersonate Who" outfit, since my Fem-Five doesn't fit anymore...
I wish I had gotten a full length pic of this outfit! I was in black bloomers & orange converse!

Day 2 (during the day) was my Ladybug Fairy outfit.

Day 2 (evening) was the Goblin King's Masked Ball. Here's me & my bestie, before we got all crazy dancing. :-D

Here's us getting our groove on.

Day 3, "Rand'ime" (Get it? Random-Anime? Or something. I totally think I'm clever. ;) )

that looks like a fun little convention :) I usually stick to my anime cons, so it seems like such a new and novel idea to be able to wear an original costume to a convention! I mean, I guess I could at an anime con, but one always gets comments like "what are you supposed to be?" even when I do a really good job with accuracy!

Maybe I'm just a snob, but I'd much rather someone ask "where is your costume from," because it's doesn't imply failure from the get go!

A more laid back fandom con seems like it would be a lot of fun to experiment with original outfits, though!

I love your ladybug fairy. It is so cute :D The others also look fun, but I would absolutely love to get a closer look at the leaves on your ball costume. What are they made out of? :O This is totally the kind of costume I love to poke at in person

Looks like a blast! I haven't been able to attend any conventions in the past few years due to work, but I love to see other people going and enjoying themselves!

Belated HALLOWEEN blog!

Tuesday, November 26, 2013

Here's what I based my costume on, if you missed the previous blog:

Here I am, in all my Diz-glory!

Here's one with the helmet - which I didn't actually finish & only wore for this pic. :)

Here's Spacegirl with "Loki the Jungle Cruise Guide"

Here's one with the "cast members". My hubs is Jiminy Cricket. ;)

Super cute! Even if you say you didn't finish the helmet, I think it looks great! I usually say satin is the devil, but you did a great job :) I know that I, personally, would have gone bonkers trying to get that curved seam on the bust to lay properly, but it looks great!

Halloween prep... (PICTURES!!)

Thursday, October 24, 2013

I'll jump on the bandwagon & post some of my 'progress' pics for my Halloween costume!
It's a Disney themed party this year (anything owned by Dizzz was fair game, so wide open).
I decided to go old-school-retro-traditional. :-)
Here's basically what I've aimed at:

A couple of thrift store bedsheets:

A downloaded picture of the approximate right shape:

(pattern being out of print...)

A mockup (sans sleeves):

The cape:

A cheap halloween wig (which needs some work before Saturday, obvs):

And, a helmet that's getting a bit of a makeover:

I'm still working on shoes... Worse comes to worse, I've got these silver crazy tall platform go-go boots that I can wear (It _is_ an adult halloween party, afterall), but I'm still on the lookout for boots like the photo, that I can spray paint silver.

Okay. Gotta get off the computer & get back to working on the costume!!

Being this close to Halloween, the costume-themed stores around here have started doing crazy markdowns. Maybe you can find boots at a similar store in your neighborhood?

The costume looks awesome so far, by the way.

And, it needs to end.

It's only been one day, and I'm already kind of weirded out. This is a problem.

Three or four times a day (or more) means you have a problem.

So, it had to be done.

*I had my husband hide my bathroom scale*

It started out so innocent... The program I was working with (elimination type diet) had me doing a daily weigh-in. It kept you on track, kept you informed on what your body reacted weirdly (water retention/swelling) to, kept you "honest".

And eventually IT happened.

Hopping on the scale before dinner - just to see where you stood before eating.
Hopping on the scale before going to bed - just to give me an idea of what the next morning would bring.
Hopping on the scale three or four times in the morning, just to see if it went down a little after going to the bathroom again.

Yes, this has become a problem.

I've been at 'maintenance' for about 6 months and I slowly over the last three months had gone from my standard once a day to ... yeah... too much.
And, I'd gone from using it as a tool to having it use me.

This is a problem.

That stupid little number was no longer 'information'.
It had become how my day was going to go.
It became how I saw myself.
It became a problem.

And, the problem needs to end.

I used to weigh myself daily, but now I'm down to once a week. I chose Monday mornings for my date with the scale thinking it may help me indulge a bit less on the weekends. Sometimes yes, sometimes no! emoticon Problems only go away after you acknowledge them... so there you go! You did it! Hang in there, it will get easier.

The scale - a double edged sword! When it's down: happiness, success, worthiness! But when it is up: well, that's a downer.

That is my struggle right there!

Putting it away ... wow! Good for you! I am honest enough to say that scares the bejeezus out of me, but maybe someday - when I've reached the point of maintaining .... maybe I can do that too!

Good job on being aware of this being a problem and doing what you needed to do! emoticon

Well, dang it all to heck...

So went in for a DEXA body scan today...
Good news & bad news. *of course*

The good news was that my BMI was at 24.9 - officially "Normal"! LOL And, even better, my bone density kicks butt.

The bad news... my body fat percentage is WAY higher than my measurement calculations show! According to my BIA scale, I'm at 24% - according to the Navy's measurement thingy, I'm at 27%.
The DEXA? It has me at 34%. Bah.
This is considered "obese". Lamesauce.

Ah well, at least it gives me a direction to go, yes? And, considering I started up over 60%, it's still the right direction. And, 130 lbs down is nothing to sneeze at.
So there.

Me at (probably) 50% and 35%:

WOW! What a transformation! Don't let varying numbers negate your rightful feeling of pride in all you've done. It's good to know where you stand, but it NEVER defines you!

The upside is you know where you stand. But it sure shows the variations in those things - good grief.

And you're awesomesauce, btw. :)
