Yesterday was one of those days when diet was excellent, friendship restored, forgiveness given and the Green Bay Packers won.

Old man Winter

Monday, December 31, 2012

I am not a cold weather person and when Winter comes I become a different person. I sleep and eat more and my moods represent the long dark days. I had to do something about this season called Winter.

Last year I made peace with old man Winter. I decided to embrace the cold and snow by getting xc skis. Well old man Winter developed dementia and we had a record warm winter. I went bicycling more then cx skiing, but the couple of times I used my skis I fell in love with this sport.

This year on Dec. 20th, old man Winter came howling in. He dump 19 inches of snow. I said "welcome I have been waiting for you" and others have said "ugh". I wanted to spend more time outdoors playing in this wonderful cold snow, so I bought a pair of snowshoes. Oh pure joy, love snowshoeing.

Now when old man Winter comes to visit I say "Welcome".

Happy New year Everyone!!!! emoticon

Excellant!!! This year was a little slow for me. We had 2 mild winter and I did not want to enbrace the cold. But snow was a present for me. In the years I taught my husband to embrace winter and snow. He was a great help. Yesterday we spent the day finding a snow storm and hiking, bird watching. Yes he planned his day to brighten my spirits.

YOu can have my share of cold, snow, ice, winter and everything that goes with it. I was born and raised in snow and I hate it. Especially shoveling it..
Embrace enough of that snow for me too!
Give me a beach, palm trees and swimming time... emoticon emoticon emoticon

Family that works out together lives long together

Friday, December 14, 2012

Tonight's family dinner topic was on health. My 24 year old twin sons stated they work out at the Y before dinner and express their gratitude that they have a gym to go to. When they were young, we made a family decision to drop cable TV and get a membership at the Y. Oh there was a lot of complaining in the beginning, but when they realized they could go swimming everyday the complaining stopped.

The Y was where they learned to swim, play flag football, and basket ball. The Y was where they watch their mom and dad enjoy keeping fit. Now as a family we still like meeting at the Y and working out together. We also have guest pass for our grandson.

Our decision we made awhile back was an important one. The importance to keep our bodies healthy and spending time together. Make it your goal to keep moving forward for yourself and others.

Long live this family.

Rabbit goals

Monday, December 10, 2012

The other night while bike riding, a rabbit cross my path, the car beside me and a car coming in the opposite direction. This lucky rabbit had missed death three times and reach it goal which was to get to the other side of the street.

As I ponder in what I had wittiness, I at times are like the rabbit tying to doge road blocks to reach my goals. One road block that comes to mind was when I did a century bike ride. I had ridden 70 miles and had 20 to go. I was extremely tired and wanted to quit, but I wanted more than ever to get to the finished line.

I began to visualized people cheering me on. I saw men, women and children all different sizes and heard clapping, blowing of horns, and words of encouragement. This helped for it took my attention off on how tired I was and twenty miles seemed like a mile. I finished and felt like the rabbit I was extremely happy I had accomplished this goal.

What road blocks are you experiencing? What have you used to dodge them? Like the rabbit we too want to reach our goals. Good Luck

Tree man

Wednesday, December 05, 2012

I love to bike at night and have no problems until last night. My friend and I went 21 miles through the city and out into the country. While we were riding through the country, I noticed something by a tree. As I got closer the shape look like a human and I began to feel fear. When I got closer I saw the eyes of a man. I yelled "Holly crap". The man laugh at me as I rode past him.

I began to cry and hurried to catch up to my friend. I asked her if she saw a man standing by a tree and she stated no. I told her I saw someone and we were both surprised that someone would be hanging out in the woods when it was dark and 40 degrees.

I have ridden this route by myself in the dark and have enjoyed the woods sounds, but after last night ride I will ride with someone on this route. I wonder what if I had did this route by myself last night, would he have jump out in front of me and cause harm, because what right person hangs out in the woods in the dark!!

In my request for health and fitness I need to make sure safety is in place. Ride with someone, carry cell phone, good lighting on bike, tell someone were you are going and ask them to call you if gone too long. Everyone be safe out there.

I want to say maybe he was just out for a walk like you on your ride. Either way it is a good idea to be safe. And maybe this was your heads up be alert. Glad you are okay.

I'm very paranoid about something happening to me when I go out for runs. So now that it is getting darker earlier I'm going to make sure I have my sil's bit pull with me, that way no one will mess with me. I wait to go running until my husband gets home from work at 4pm, so he can watch the little one. It is nearly dark by then.

So happy nothing happened to you. Keep safe!
