Holiday Baking

Saturday, December 22, 2012

So today is baking day, I love to give homemade gifts. I think I've figured out how to avoid a calorie catastrophe, too. First off sweets are not my biggest pitfall (I'd rather have chips and salsa anyway) so that's a plus but not a guarantee. The trick is to give everything away...right away. So I have treat bags and holiday take out boxes at the ready. My friends end up with fresh cookies and fudge and I have it all out of the house. Son and a husband don't love this strategy, but they will live emoticon

This is a great idea! I've been sick this holiday season so gave up on trying to bake, but will file this away as a strategy to use NEXT year!

What can I do to make it different this time?

Wednesday, December 19, 2012

Plenty of times I have felt resolved...until a cheese plate comes along or a good bottle of wine. Neither of which in itself is a huge deal breaker. But one shared bottle turns into two, then dessert. Then willpower is shot, a late night snack. Then carbs the next day to soak up the residual wine...and of course too tired to hit the gym. Especially this time of year, this trap is so easy to fall into. Well I'm going to try really hard to make it different this time, starting with giving up the alcohol, whether its subconscious or not it does lower the resolve to stick with the diet and get my tush moving. I won't die without eggnog and cider this holiday season!

Have a tall glass of water about 30 minutes before food... It helps with the munchies! And then you are not as likely to keep eating! And if you've had a lot of liquid to drink, you are less likely to keep drinking the alcohol!

Hey, I'm here to tell ya, we can do this!

Make a list of goals and then a list of WHY's . . . why you want to reach each of your goals.

And write down how you're feeling each time you feel tempted to eat or do something that's not on your plan.

Will power and WON'T power gets stronger with use.

Remember, even if you fall down keep getting back up. You don't have to be perfect to reach your goals. You have to be consistent.

You can DO it!!! and remember if you do have a drink, skip the eggnog and the "cream" drinks - try a glass of dry wine, or a wine spritzer made with sparkling water or seltzer - minimal calories, refreshing, and you have a glass in the hand without doing much harm.
