This gal is a big loser at Bootcamp.

Sunday, January 30, 2011

If you remember; I signed up for an internet group coupon a few weeks ago which was a 12 week session of Bootcamp for a very reasonable price. The best part was three of my friends also signed up under my name, so my fee was waived.

Already a big Woo Hoo!! and I hadn't even started yet...

This bootcamp has been a total blast and right up my fitness interest and challenge. I like to sweat when I exercise (I know...gross!). I like to mix things up in circuit training. I enjoy being around other people. I like fast paced. This really does it!

The owner, Ryan, emphasizes working out in your heart rate zone, so learning to wear and using one has been enlightening. As soon as my HR goes over, I hit the ground (well, not literally), lay on my back and do tushy squeezes to get it back in my zone. That zone is where you burn the most fat.

The coaches basically think for you, which is great at 7 a.m. They think of nasty exercises for us to do, intermingled with weight machines and cardio. They challenge and remind us to put the effort out and even add their own body weight to what you are already doing. For instance, as I am holding a V-sit to work on the core, they will come behind you and gently add their weight to your shoulders to make sure you stay strong. Love it!

I was measured at the beginning of the month in 13 different areas. Thought I would just see where I was after 7 workouts.

So...drum roll please....apparently I lost 16 "!!! I couldn't believe it! I still have a hard time believing that. Of course, it is in 13 different areas. I certainly feel more toned and stronger. My pants have already been baggy because I have been working out for a while and just haven't bought too many smaller jeans yet.

So I asked my husband Ron. Husbands should know about these things...right? : )

He said he thought my FACE looked thinner!! What? I mentioned to Ron that they didn't measure my face! What a hoot!
emoticon

So...I think I will join the Bootcamp for a year. My challenge will be the distance I have to drive to get there and wanting to be outside more when the weather warms upping my running again. However, this class I join will only be 2X a week, instead of 3. That schedule will keep things a bit more fresh all around.

So I am celebrating my biggest loser status of 16 "! Even in my face. : )

Shakin' my booty passionately,
Julia

It's a Dog's Life

Friday, January 28, 2011

The joy of running, jumping, exploring, sniffing is FUN when you are a dog!

Lil' Abner (Maltese) and Cocapelli (Jack Russell Terrier/Blue Heeler mix) like to accompany me on walks; especially when they can run off leash! This great trail is out my front door and we all enjoyed a beautiful warm Colorado day in January. A fly even buzzed by my ear!

Passionately and joyfully yours,
Julia : )

Nice!! We have about 4 feet of snow here in Jan. so I am totally jealous. I would rather walk outside (in warm temps) vs. walking on the treadmill.

My One Word ~ Passion

Thursday, January 27, 2011

New Year's resolutions are really not for me. I like to evaluate my life however, and think of things, character traits, goals that I would desire to work on in my life throughout the year. Last year one of my goals was to train and run a half marathon.

On our local Christian radio station, the emphasis for the first few weeks on January was "one word". Think of one word that might be yours for the year. Something to easily remember and to apply in different areas of your life.

I had been praying and thinking of what my one word might be! Would it be disciplined, self-control, focus...etc. All fabulous traits! But they didn't speak or catch where I wanted to go.

As I was in the car early one morning while on the way to bootcamp, the song from Matthew West came on.

"I don't wanna go through the motions
I don't wanna go one more day
Without your all consuming passion inside of me.
I don't wanna spend my whole life asking
"What if I had given everything
instead of going through the motions.""

Passion! That was my word I felt God leading me towards.

*Passion for my Lord and Savior; Jesus
*Passion for my husband
*Passion for my family
*Passion for others and to let them know about Jesus
*Passion for my health

To live in such a way that I would give everything, instead of going through the motions.

What would your one word be, my sparkfriends?

Passionately Yours,
Julia : )

I can't imagine you not living a life filled with passion. You are a very passionate person. Love your word and love you. I'll have to think and pray about a word for me.

Great blog! You are absolutely an example of "passion" Passion for life, for caring about others, for loving Christ....and more.

I am so glad to be your spark friend Julia. You are an inspiration to me in more areas than losing weight!

    Passion so fits you Julia!

I haven't really thought about what one word I would use -- I will be mulling that over.

Great word, great song, great blog! What a wonderful direction to take for 2011! I believe that my word would have to be acceptance...of others - quirks and all, of all the good gifts that God has for me and of His will, of the many circumstances in this world that are totally beyond my control, and last but not least, of my many limitations and also my many areas of giftedness,

I can see you as a passionate lady, great way to sum it up and keep motivated. I have not really thought about just 1 word, I saw Susie's early this month and liked hers but I'm not sure what I would use. Going through a season of transition so the focus is not clear, I'll keep praying about it and see what God brings to mind. How is the bootcamp going?

My One Word for 2011 is "Whole-hearted" -- and also ties in with Matthew West's song. I don't want to just go through the motions, to be half-hearted, or worse yet apathetic. Whatever God puts before me today, I want to work at it with my whole heart, so that He is glorified!

I totally see Passion as a great word for you!! Seems to fit already - will be fun to watch as you go through the year. "Watch out, world! Here Comes Julia! And Boy, does she have Passion!!"

My life as a Blog...not a Blob

Saturday, January 15, 2011

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

These are the foods I like to eat. Alot.

But, without Sparks accountability...
emoticon

And, staying active...

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

And choosing wisely...

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

And having Sparkfriends like you to hold me accountable by your encouragement and friendship...

emoticon emoticon emoticon

I would feel totally different than I do at this moment! I would definitely be a Blob!

The choices we make each and every day are important to our overall health, inside and out. I want to honor the Lord with what I do with this gift of a body that works so beautifully. Even though I notice those little changes as the years go by.

Isn't it interesting that we look at our life experiences as opportunities to write a blog on this site? But you know, that gives us the chance to think about what and how we live our daily life.

My prayer is that I choose to God's delight!

Blob-lessly yours,
Julia : )

emoticon happy dance!

I've always wanted to be a cheerleader!

Thursday, January 13, 2011

Yes! Gooooo Team Gooooo!

One of the blessings of being involved with a Sparkteam is to encourage and cheer each other on!

I certainly have loud enough pipes to lead cheers, and I have the energy to jump up and down! Alas, it was the lack of doing cartwheels, walkovers, the short height, the short, curly hair and glasses that just wasn't a great combination to be chosen for the squad when I was in high school in the 70's. Plus I am sure other things as well! : )
emoticon

So, imagine my delight when three girlfriends signed up to join me for the fitness bootcamp. Two of them will be starting their first class tomorrow morning! I am so excited for them and love the idea of being an encouragement for them. For these gals to begin (and continue) their journey towards health and fitness is really a blessing.

All of you are little sparklers for me, and I sure strive to do the same for you. Isn't life much more "cheery" when you have a team to yell "atta girls" , and encourage you, and lift you up, and give you high fives and listen and pray for your concerns and rejoice in your victories?

Your Sister Cheerleader!
