If my goal weight wrote a letter to me today

Monday, November 22, 2010

She would say:

Hey beautiful, where have you been?
You are powering along with these healthy lifestyle habits for months and then you abandon the plan somewhere & just stop running & weight training, totally.

I know you are getting slow results with the scale, but look how much your strength and stamina increases, how drinking all that water makes you glow! emoticon

Running! You took up a sport and ran x3 races this year! What is going on here? Let's lace up those shoes, fill up the water bottle and go, go, go!

Ok, I see you tapered off as you began the 10 k training, mid winter, and got out of sync with all that travel interstate too... emoticon
You kept reading here, that works! But stopped communicating or blogging.
You felt emotionally overwhelmed by the responsibility of assisting all your precious fellow spark friends. emoticon

Then there is the new family member, Scout, your one-of-these-days running partner, who is a mere puppy and has totally wrecked your fragile focus (along with the now six year old). emoticon

Ok, that is acknowledged, are you ready to consider solutions? To re invigorate and connect?
I know you want me and I know you can succeed, don't be discouraged, write down what works and put it in your diary!

Also, maybe you actually need to address the nightly consumption of alchohlic pear and apple cider? emoticon
Also, I know your "Fat is a Feminist Issue" self equates the word DIET with DIE but can you handle the concept of "PORTION CONTROL", like how French women get to sample 7 kinds of fromage, maybe? emoticon

Finally, remember you are energy in motion, all over lovable and loving. You are sensitive to emotions and must sometimes ACT instead of FEEL,

I Love You."

Thank you VirgoGuRL4 for the inspiration to write this letter!

I love it! It's a little like your goal weight was writing to me too. emoticonI have let life derail my best-laid and proven-successful plans for healthy living too. Time to just bite the ol' bullet and find a good routine again! It makes sense anyway -- I KNEW I'd have to adjust with the seasons, and yet I am letting them take control of me instead of working with them. Silly girl -- of course the universe knows best! emoticon

Great letter! And welcome back! Personally... I think you are doing amazing, even if you believe the scale is not reflecting what you hope to see... because you came back! And each time life gets in the way... you are going to keep coming back, quicker and faster each time!

Don't beat yourself up too badly... and this letter/confession of sorts is going to be huge in your progress in the right direction!!!

Layers: clothes protect me from the harsh elements, fat?

Thursday, May 06, 2010

In the past few days I emptied out my jeans drawers.
I actually fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans...still a little too tight to wear however, or has my body shape changed so much?
I note to myself nothing stays the same, life IS change, flux, vitality, energy, movement.
So I bought x2 pairs of new jeans that do fit and look pretty cool also.
Plus I cut my hair shortish!
I don't fit into my early twenties levi's and I am keeping them as an art-piece they are so patched and ripped...
I am uncovering layers of my self that have been buried for around 5 years.
(The levis more like 15 years!)

I am about to run in the Mothers Day Classic in one state, then travel to another state to a very special exhibition my partner is in.
I have spent a few days working out my traveling wardrobe due to first I go to a freezing cold island, then I go to a pretty balmy place.

It is true we layer ourselves, whether in fat or in clothes I like to buffer myself from the potential harsh breeze of a critical gaze or mind.
I am a woman of many layers, and I like to go deep with others too.
By learning how to protect myself without the layer of fat I have uncovered these notions:
1. It is not about the scales or the mirror actually, they are illusory but do reflect my inner self worth in a given moment.
2. I could be skeletal and still think I am too much for certain people.
3. I can put myself first in terms of health, fitness and time boundaries.
4. I teach people how to behave toward me.
5. I am a possibility.

I am tired and must catch a plane with a 5 year old at 6 am. With a massive suitcase.
Still hard to lose all the baggage, but I have made a great start!

A 5k race & 2 days of fun - rewards work!

Sunday, April 25, 2010

Last weekend was my first 5k race, this weekend was a spare minute to write about it.
First & foremost: a big hug and thanks to you, my spark friends, for cheering me on as I embody my athletic woman within! emoticon

The run was an hilarious adventure.
We decided to warm up by cycling from where we were staying in Hesket, to The Mysterious Hanging Rock.
Little did I realise this was 9 km away! emoticon

35 mins of mad cycling (plus me walking uphill once!) to get to the start of the 5 km race left us with just enough time to begin but with no time to rest or hydrate!
A mob of roos sprang out of nowhere to set the pace as we charged after the runners, making a very average time but completing ahead of the walkers.

I won a pair of expensive Japanese running shoes too which makes me smile.

I won the shoes for spinning a yarn on stage about the roos...ok I am a creative athlete, hope they have prizes like that everywhere, coz I had to say NO to the Endless supply of logo plastic water bottles littering the x2 “sports events” I have now attended, and given out to participants as rewards.
Plastic bottles, the biggest environmental waste of all time, worse than plastic bags by far.
*steam, fume!*

And our stay at Hesket retreat was just divine, dare I say “romantic”?, anyhow, it was relaxing, affectionate, restful, peaceful, all that with spice! (not to mention kangaroos, emu, parrots and one curious peacock!)

Has also the power to manifest a reality". Sri Chinmoy

Rewards: loving myself at last

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

I got it! I really got it! In the past I worked so hard at everything but I never thought to hug myself and say " good job". Life events in recent years have caused me to see this BUT I suddenly found the missing puzzle piece!
Reward myself for big goals met and for consistent effort in the direction of my dreams & goals! I never did this before! I feel so happy, suddenly past not so healthy choices make sense!
I organised kiddie care @ grandma's and am booking a country guest place near where I am running my first 5 k on sat! Woo hoo! Life just got even fuller!

Ha HA!! Thanks everyone: yep "Doona Dive" is a term I use to describe a dive in my drive, my emotions and my motivations...I just want to go to bed and have a nice cup of tea and sleep!
This is ok, on occasions a rest is a wonderful way to love myself!
But, if I use the "doona dive" technique as a coping mechanism for feeling overwhelmed, that is not healthy for my mind or my body!
I resolve to find healthy alternatives to the old doona dive, and Rewards are working for me very much!

SIS Goals review:how have I been doing so far?

Monday, April 12, 2010

These are my goals for Team Fireflies when I began 4 weeks ago:
Team Fireflies Challenge are lose 12 pounds in 12 weeks & 30 minutes movement every day!

The amazing thing is I have lost 6 cm (4cm off my abdomen) in last 2 weeks , but I have gained a pound.

I am reaching my 30 mins a day movement and surpassing it. emoticon
I will finish my 5 k training Saturday this week (!!) AND I run my first ever 5k run on Saturday too!
SO YAY ME, consistency so far!

My new goals on reflection are this: 60 mins of exercise every day.
Running x 3 per week (begin 10 k program next week)
Swimming 1 km x2 per week (doing this w a friend)
Curves (for weights) x 3 per week
Yoga class x1 per week (my bf teaches this class, she is excellent)

I will run my first 5 k race this Saturday (Run the Rock)
I will run a 2nd 5 km on May 9th (The Mothers Day Classic)
I will seek a 10 km race to run in.

This inches lost, but slight weight gain is to do with muscle forming instead of fat!!
Muscle takes less room than fat. however by VOLUME it weighs more, so you have lost inches - lost body fat, BUT gained muscle - actually BY VOLUME slightly more muscle than you had fat, hence the slight weight gain!!
This is an ok thing!! Since you are running I would assume that the muscles in your legs (and body probably) are developing hard - and there is the weight gain!! But since you WANT more, stronger muscle mass on your legs etc - its ok!!
As the muscles work they will eventually burn the fat - well they are now but not at the same rate as you are developing muscle - this will sort itself out!!
Having said all that - does it make sense?? - I know what I am trying to say - its related to that comment on my fat v muscle blog the other day that you picked up!!
