.36 mi

Thursday, January 28, 2010

One of my longterm goals is to be able to RUN a mile non-stop. I can't say that i've ever been able to do this, not even as a little kid. So, today at lunch I went down to the gym got on the treadmill and turned it up to 4mph. It's a healthy walking pace, heart rate is elevated some but i can still hold a conversation - sort of. Anyway, I walked for a mile at this pace then turned it up to 6mph and started my run, or jog, or run... point is I wasn't walking. I ran until I basically didn't feel like it anymore .36miles. Sure I could have pushed it a little farther, but I didn't want to hurt myself and also my fat was itching. I'm gonna have to chase this rabbit a bit. Does anyone else have that problem?

You start running and your wobbly bits (yeah I stole it from Bridget Jones) start wobbling and then they start itching... A LOT! It starts around my mid section, invites the lowerback/butt, then my outer thighs join in the party and I can no longer balance because I'm contorting in several directions at once trying to scratch. Please, someone please tell me I'm not the only person that suffers from this. I have noticed that when I wear my sweat pants that are way too tight my legs tend to come along much later, so maybe that's the trick, holding the wobbly pieces together so they don't move so much. Guess i'll have to do some shopping, any recommendations?

Ok, so I'm comfortable with running .36miles, now I have a plan. I'll do .4miles next week (1) and if it comes as easily again the next week. in week 3 i'll increase to .45 miles. week 5 .5 miles. We'll see how it goes from there. But I'm optimistic, by the end of Feb I'll be running a half mile. If I can keep up the pace I'm running a mile by mid May :D This works nicely with my proposed weightloss plan - assuming of course I can get the itching to stop.

Goal update
Christmas Decoration - I put them away Jan 23rd!
Guest closet - not even close, but I did fold the towels and sheets that were just sitting on the bed. I think I may have been overly ambitious with the Mar1 deadline.

New Goals:
RUN .4 miles at least twice in the next two weeks.
Clean my kitchen floor by the time I get to the .45mi mark

    Terrific! Congratulations!

My goal is to be able to run a mile as well and last week I did .3 of a mile. We're pretty close. :)

I know we will be able to do it. You just keep pushing yourself.

Today i nearly ate myself into a coma at Benihana's but it was totally worth it! It's my Birthday :D

actually maybe it wasn't so bad.
Spider roll (shared)
Salmon Sashimi (raw fish - doesn't get much healthier)
Onion soup (i can't see how that can be bad, it's almost all broth)
Fried Rice (i stopped according to the law of diminishing returns)
Steak and Shrimp (both very very lean)
Banana Tempura (split with 2 other people and worth every calorie even if I'd eaten the whole thing myself!)
Strawberry ice cream (it comes with the banana, and I only had a couple spoonfuls)

Alright, so I know that's a lot of food in one sitting... trust me i know, i can feel it. but i took a lot home and did i mention it's my Birthday! Also i didn't want to the chef to feel unappreciated. I'll definitely get on my spin bike tonight.

I love it. It's crunchy and delicious and healthy and all kinds of other good things. So, I live right next to chinatown. I mean RIGHT next to it, as in if you walk two blocks south of my house all the street signs are in chinese. You need to know this information to really appreciate the story I'm about to tell.

Yesterday, I'm almost home and I stop at the Fiesta for some fresh fruit, veggies etc. I do my shopping and start walking up and down the frozen foods aisle looking for edamame. I must have spent at least 20 minutes looking for soy beans or edamame on a package, no luck. At this point i'm very upset, i've had my heart set on those salty little soy beans and now I either have trek down to randalls, or kroger, or go home unsatisfied. As I pull out of the Fiesta and turn right on Bellaire, throwing my own little pity party, I look around and realize if I turn right, right now, I'll be turning into yet another chinese shopping center complete with food store. I'm an idiot!

Sometimes the answer is right there in front of you but you really can't see the forest for the trees,... or is it trees for the forest? Anyway, you know what i mean. I went in to WELCOME food store and they had 8 different brands of edamame, and SUPER cheap too! Yea me!

Goal update:
Christmas decorations are still in the boxes on the floor in the living room, but I have until the 26th!

Guest closet - i'm really not even gonna think about the guest closet until i've put up the christmas decorations

weight loss - I'm ready and willing and recently equipped with fresh fruit and edamame for healthy snacking! Rode spinner monday and tuesday and today i did yoga. Woohoo!

I love that stuff - just bought a couple packages last night. Not only delicious and nutritious... it also fills you up quite nicely.
And I really liked how you tied it up with not realizing something because of the perspective you happen to be looking at it from. It's a life lesson that's true for a lot of things.
Good posting - thanks for putting it out there.

I love edamame emoticon It's great that Houston has such diverse grocery stores. Have you seen the new Asian market around I10 and Belfort (I think - it's where a HEB used to be)? It has great sushi grade fish in case you are interested in making your own. You used to have to go to Clearlake to get sushi grade fish and now it's right in our city and cheap!

aww, now I miss Houston! We used to go to the big asian food store on Beltway 8 and Bellaire (Viet Hoa?) and get bbq buns, sushi nori, rice and vegetables. And of course I always left with someone I would not normally eat, just for fun :)

Starting over...

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Over the holidays i had a ton of food in front of me all the time, and it all looked amazing. so basically i said "screw it, i'm just gonna be fat and happy and indulge in whatever i want to!" The problem is, fat and happy don't really go together, not when you look at the damage you've done and your clothes are constantly reminding you that you no longer have the metabolism of a 16 year old girl on dance team. Nope, next week i'll be 28 and staying thin is no where near as easy as it used to be. It's difficult even. This is quite the pisser.

I'm back on the wagon. I don't know how long i'll be here... I'd like to think that I'll keep up with it from here on out, but let's face it, I've said that before. :D No no, this time I'm only promising to do my best. And I'm setting reasonable goals.

So... new weigh in
1/19/2010: 138.5

Target Date: 5/4/2010

Target Weight: 120

So... I have to lose 1.2 lbs/week
Easy Peasy!

Also... I will clean out the Guest closet by the end of March so that guests can actually use it.

oh! and i will actually put the Christmas decoration in the attic by this time next week.

More goals to come, but I think this is a good start.

Howdy, Stranger! So here we are, both in the same boat! No prob -- we can DO this!! We have done it before! I really appreciate your positive attitude. The holidays wreak havoc on ALL of us who enjoy food (perhaps too much, I have to add). It's time to kick you-know-what and take names! Accountability is the name of the game now! I love your blog -- don't quit throwing out those inspirational thoughts you are so good at writing down for all of your SparkPals to enjoy! emoticon

My neighbor is awesome!

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

So a few months ago I was taking out the garbage and my neighbor stops me and asks if I've been losing weight, cause I look good! LOVE HER!

I was a little upset, a little discouraged that I had put some of the weight back on, then this weekend I pulled into the lot got out of the car and she yells "Neighbor, neighbor. Don't lose anymore weight!" Now... truth is I could still stand to tighten up in more than one place but it is SO encouraging to hear things like that. Monday I started tracking my food again and am ready to jump back on my spin bike.

Moral of the story: if you see someone working hard, let them know! Encouraging words make a world of difference.
