Adapt and adjust

Saturday, July 26, 2014

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, it helps set the tone.
That being said, an egg without yolk is like an oreo without stuff.
It's a good thing I have some room to maneuver this morning!
Add a nice slice of sweet red pepper to frame my egg whites, a couple kernels of corn, and a few beans, with some fiesta dash. (The veggies are borrowed from portions for other meals.) Add a piece of toast, a little fruit, a good cuppa, and this day holds promise. (if you aren't careful, heart healthy diets can just break your heart!)

I love eggs but the Jury still seems to be out on if they're healthy enough to eat lots of them. I try to use egg beaters, usually my market's generic brand and mix the eggs, veggies, shredded cheese, seasonings etc. and put it all in a ziploc freezer bag, then mix it (in the bag with my fingers) and boil the freezer bag in boiling water. It's more like an omelet than scrambled eggs and I love starting my day with this delicious omelet and maybe a piece or two of toast. I love your sense of Humor. . .I think you're awesome my new friend. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sounds great to me. When I do an omelet (we have them with veggies a couple times a week), I use one whole egg and 2 egg whites. Gives it a little color and there is some great protein and iron in there, too. Anyway, like Jeanne said, it is great to be able to do what we want, right? Today I had 2 pieces of toast, 1 egg and 1 small piece of cheese. It came to 260 calories. Had a cup of watermelon and I was in heaven!! Mmm!! Have a great day today!! Jeannie

We are all so different and I guess that's one of the things that make this site so special. I just finished breakfast: egg whites with a slice of dry toast. As a kid, I would get in trouble because I hate the taste of the yolk. My mother would make eggs and I'd just eat the whites. She would fuss about the food waste. This scene replays in my head most mornings, if I'm cooking eggs. How nice now, as an adult, to be able to make a healthy choice and enjoy what I eat. So happy you are here. Thank you for sharing!

Things that make you go, hmmmmm

Friday, July 25, 2014

Did my grocery shopping yesterday and today. I do believe that the only thing tougher than learning to cook for one is trying to shop for one.
I believe if I could start the consummate convenience store it would be called, Single Serve. It would have single servings of everything you can imagine with prices geared to help folks on fixed incomes.
There are lots of groups advocating growing your own food. That's not inexpensive.
My kids laugh every time they see me buy a packet of seeds. I've grown big boy tomatoes that got to be as big as cherry tomatoes. Most everything else has flat out refused to even break through the ground.
All that aside, my numbers were good today, maybe two nutrients were over. I'll take it. I'll portion out what needs portioned and give thanks for the ability to buy what I need and do what I need to do.

Please send me a "Grand Opening" notice when you open your convenience store. emoticon Although I cook for two, there are many food I prepare that hubby won't eat. Think most veggies. I can't remember the last time salad crossed his lips. Just sad!
Glad you had a good day!

Moving right along

Thursday, July 24, 2014

This day has had its share of challenges, but I am reaching out, feeling connected, and making decent choices. Learning to negotiate this site takes some time, it has been well worth the effort.
Like they say in the "anonymous" programs, it works if you work it. emoticon

This site is huge! I was on here for days before I realized we are supposed to collect points for all of the things we do here. Oh, well, I'm a better person for doing them, with or without the points. So glad you feel connected. This is a great place for that to happen.

Forward I go

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

This evening I am feeling successful. My food has been good today, odd, but good. I have learned how to modify my nutrition tracker, introduced myself on some SparkTeams, had eight glasses of water, and gotten some fitness work in. I am here SparkPeople, let's get moving.

I'd say you sure have had a great day. I'm so happy you're on the Over 60. . .Team. I just added you as a friend and I'm looking forward to getting to know you. I think you'll really like the Team as we're all around the same age with a significant amount of weight to lose. The members on this Team are wonderful, supportive and we like to have fun.
