I'm shifting my focus

This is my intention for the New Year. I will still be sparking but my main focus is to place my attention on eating healthy and becoming physically fit.
I've lost a couple of lbs this week but I don't want to shout too much about something as fragile as this. I am one of those people who tend to allow what the scale says to determine my emotional well being. So I'm taking the advice of many of the folks who are here to guide and I'm shifting my focus from the scale.
How are things today sparkies. It's windy and sunny here in Trinidad, downright beautiful emoticon.

    I am covered in snow in Chicago but, I thank GOD it could be worst it will be spring soon hopefully. You shouldn't used the scale all of the time every once in a while. emoticon

    Dear Slimmy, Aren't we blessed to live wherever we live? I do not mind the cold weather too much, especially because I do not have a job where I work outside!     Hi Slim, I sure can relate to how I feel after I weigh myself--either good or bad depending on what it says. . .I try to only weigh myself every Saturday morning for a weight loss challenge I'm in.

It's just beautiful here in So. California in the low 80's which is the nicest weather we've had all Winter. What's it like in Trinidad? I've never been there but I've heard it is beautiful--clear and warm. . .

  I understand about letting the scale making me feel bad or good. So I have another thing that I am trying to focus on:
1. Eat hungry
2. Calm environment While actually eating
3. Sitting
4. Mind and body are relaxed
5. Eat and drink only what my body loves
6. Pay attention only to my food while I am eating
7. Eat slowly
8. Stop BEFORE I'm full
It seems to help me stay grounded.

    I'm givin you a big high five! As someone who also gets emotionally swayed by the scale I totally support this idea!

If you let a 'bad' number on the scale ruin your mood and make you sabotage your progress you just gonna get another 'bad' scale number! It's a stooopid vicious cycle that won't get u where u wanna be... I talk from experience :)

You live in Trinidad? Seriously? Soooo cool! What a beautiful place - you very lucky!

    Hi., I think your focusing on the right things. I'm another one who thinks the world is ending by what the scale says. You know I've even cancelled Doctor appointments just because I couldn't face the scales? Seems like it would be so much easier to just lose the weight but I have such a tough time. I'm an emotional eater so it feels extra hard sometimes. I enjoyed your blog and it gives me inspiration to do the same thing. I have some personal things going on right now so now would probably be the best time to bundle up, grab the dog's leash and head out for a long walk. It does help the mind doesn't it? By the way its cold here in Pennsylvania.Thanks again for the inspiration! Stephani

I'm pleasantly surprised

that some of my spark friends who responded to my blog yesterday thought that my skill was a good one. One expressed a desire to have the same skill and yet another said that it brought back childhood memories for her. I was thrilled that in times like this people will show their interest and even encourage me to continue.
There has been so many gains for me since I joined this site one being the good friends who always encourage me and cheer me on and also the gains of losing weight.
I used to sew more often but after sitting at my desk all day at work and then having to come home and sit at my machine to sew on evenings had become quite challenging to say the least. I began having trouble with poor circulation in my feet, this was one of the reasons why I had to seek help to lose the weight and why I have held on to spark people for the last few months. I no longer have this problem I can actually see my ankles and my feet are no longer heavy. I will not go back to sewing for others (I used to sew to bring in extra income) I have to take better care of myself and I need to spend some time on this site in order for me to do so. I will continue to keep my skill alive by sewing for myself and the household in general.
So my dear sparkies, other than the cold I see you guys are experiencing how are things going in your neck of the woods, let me know. emoticon

    In my part of the world it does not snow but we have been experiencing a few cold days which is very pleasant and refreshing to me. I love the cold on my face.

I am taking a class this semester and it is very interesting this was my second week of class and we are having fun. I guess it all have to do with who the professor is and I have picked a good one which I'm happy with. Take care and have a blessed day.

    The snow missed our area but people in neighboring states had up to 2 feet. It is cold here though, around 30 degrees.

I found that almost everything that I did required sitting so I bought a small podium that is made for someone tall, so that I wouldn't have to bend at all. I can stand at it to read and it even holds my laptop. I really needed to do something because I went back to school at a later age. I had so much reading and homework and found myself getting stiff just sitting. So now whenever I need to stand for a while I just go to my podium.

    I love sewing too. A few years ago I spent SO much time sewing 'rag quilts' for Christmas (to bring in extra money) that I got down in my neck and shoulders. So bad that I wound up having physical therapy for one of my shoulders. I don't spend anywhere near that kind of time sewing anymore, and I've had to stop making quilts.

At least for now. My back needs a rest and I need a rest from all the sewing that I've done in the last week.
The thing about it is that I plan on reaching my goal weight come hell or high water as the saying goes so most likely I'll be doing this sometime later this year emoticon in the mean time I'll use the few pieces I made and call that George emoticon.
I know many of you probably can't believe that in this day and age someone sits at a sewing machine and do it all, when I say do it all I mean do it all from drafting my own patters to cutting out the style and then putting the garment together. I like doing it and I don't want to lose the skill so that's why I keep at it. One other thing it saves me money.
So my dear Sparkies I did about five suits, they look okay maybe I'll post a picture of myself in one of them who knows.

    Being a seamstress takes a lot of talent and patience. Growing up my Mom made my and my 2 sisters clothes, she also did slipcovers, etc. I sure wish I had gotten some of her talent but unfortunately didn't. I wish you would post some pictures of yourself in your new wardrobe. I'll bet you and the clothes you made look terrific. I know you will continue to Spark. God Bless you. emoticon emoticon

    I wish I could sew. I have read sewing is good for your mind good for you. I think that's nice. Plus you do all of the steps too that is amazing in this day and age. Don't forget to give your back a rest.

    You are amazing to be able to make items from scratch, that is really something. I am so sorry to hear that you are having back problems and trust me I understand how painful that can be.
Hopefully a few days rest will help. Keep us informed and in the meantime I will keep you in my prayers.

One more week

that's all I have before my vacation comes to an end. Can't say that I am looking forward to going out to work, but the activity of getting up and going each day pays good dividends.
My husband bought me a digital scale on Friday and I have to refrain from stepping on it on a daily basis emoticon . I'm promising myself to weigh once a week, so far I haven't stuck to that promise
I'm having a casual afternoon and I'll be off to church in the next few hours.
How are things with all you sparkies, let me know. emoticon

    Slimmy, Sometimes it is ok to weigh yourself every day if you want to help yourself make adjustments for the following day(s). I have a digital scale, too, and I love it! I eventually got "bored" of weighing in every day. lol I weigh in about 2-3 days a week, but only after I get enough sleep and have my "regular" routine (see my "Secrets of Success" entitled "If you are regular..."). So far, I have been very happy about the number of times I weigh in (lost 2.5 lbs so far this year). Going to read and post comments on your other blogs for this year now. Lots of love, Janet

    Hello there Slim! I have to weigh myself daily from CHF,I can understand.Try,try to weigh yourself once a week or 2 weeks and set up a specific day or not.Try not to bow to the scale,numbers can become to important.What's important is your healthy eating and fitnessing and how you feel.     Hi Slim, I'm trying to get over a cold and I think my stomach was upset this morning due to medication I took for it. Other than that, things are going pretty well. Preparing for work & C25k program

It's such a beautiful day today and I'm feeling a bit tired from all the ups and downs of this week's chores. I'm preparing to go back to work in a weeks time. Looking forward to my lunchtime walk and that's just about it emoticon .
I've decided to ease myself into the C25k program I'm not young so I said to myself Slimy (as my good friend Curvymeg calls me) emoticon take your time. I'm not in a hurry and I'm not going anywhere. So this week went by fairly well I passed the first week and I did pretty well. I'm staying here for a while longer until I get my bearing and until I feel comfortable enough to move on.
Looking forward to the rest of the weekend, hoping to get some rest in, I have a head cold thing going on and some coughing especially at nightime to go along with everything else, other than that I'm doing well.

  I started the C25K at the age of 54 after many years of walking. I did great up until week five and then had to do that week a few times. Make sure you go easy. I developed shin slpints from running too fast too soon. Good luck. It really is a great program.

    Great... I too am doing C25K and will stay at each week for as long it takes... not in a hurry... just doing what I can when I can.

Hope the cold passes soon... if the night time cough persists, go to the doctor as it could be asthma related.

    Good for you! I need to incorporate some kind of walking or running in my workout routine, but I just hate being outside when it's cold. I only workout at home. I live on a highway and there are some crazy drivers out here so that option is out. I really feel the need to start running so I'm going to have to make that happen some kind of way.
