Great Reminder & Motivator - Visiting Urgent Care

This morning, I helped a friend by taking him to Urgent Care. Of course, this took up most of the day and I had the chance to sit in different department's waiting rooms to witness a variety of maladies. It was a great refresher course in why maintaining a healthy lifestyle is SOOOO important. When my friend thanked me for my help, I felt like thanking him for the opportunity to remind myself that staying the course - no matter the bumps in the road - is certainly worth the ride.

    No kidding!! I used to work as a nurse on a "tele floor". It's for people with heart problems. At least 95 percent of the patients there were there because they had eaten too much and exercised too little during the course of their lives. I always wished I could make my kids work there, if only for a few days. What an eye opener.

    emoticonIt is a bit of an eye opener! I have been having treatment for a sore foot and on Thursday I went into the bigger room where there were people with much worse issues than me!
Made me realize how fortunate I was that it was just a foot and not my whole leg!

What about PH Strips?

I've been reading a lot about testing our body's alkalinity, and using PH strips. Anyone have experience using these and tips?

Overall, I guess I should send out a huge SOS.... I've lost a very dear person in July - the 8th in the last 2.5 years - and am rebelling in ways I know better not to do. Despite all the education, experience, platitude awareness, etc., my heart is just so broken that I am in a huge fog. Just don't care.

you may have gotten all the info you needed on the test strips. I only have a little experience with it, basically got mine cheaply online and used them according to directions. I've heard it said that they can be helpful if you're following a more alkaline diet, which supposedly helps reduce inflammation. I hope that's helpful.

I also want to add that I'm sorry to hear you've had so much loss in such a short time. I hope you'll be very good to yourself as you grieve, and not beat yourself up. And I pray you find good people nearby who will love you through this, and be willing to listen. If you need it, my ear is here.

    Oh honey, I am so sorry. I cannot imagine what you are going through right now, but my heart and prayers are with you.

Sometimes you just have to "Let go and Let God" Let Him handle this burden of grief for you. His shoulders are wider than yours.

    Have done the PH strips. Best way to keep body from being too acidic is a half lemon 3 x a day. I make lemonade and use stevia for sweetener - very enjoyable. Use fresh lemons. My homeopathic doctor told me about this and said do not drink orange or grapefruit juice. This confused me, because lemons are acidic. He told me lemons are the only ones that turn the alkaline juices on. Hope this helps.

Time drags when you are mourning or hurting, but in time it does get better. Pull up your boot straps and trudge forward! You can do it.

    Yes I know about pH strips.

*Veggies and fruit make your body basic/alkaline over time, raising pH (higher numbers).
*Carbonated beverages, meat, carbs, and sugar lowers pH to acidic (lower numbers).
*Diseases flourish in acidic lower numbers (cancer, fungus, many others).
*If your body is too acidic and you want immediate action (i.e. like for my sister's cancer) then you can use unfiltered raw unrefined apple cider vinegar, and/or fresh lemon juice, and/or baking soda, in water. These result in ash, and the ash is basic.
*But those are shortcut bandaids that do not give the nutrients and phytochemicals that raw fruit & veggies do, that the body requires to get well, detox, and stay well. So fresh toxin-free (organic) produce is the lifestyle change approach; the vinegar lemon juice & baking soda are shortcut "diet" type mentality that don't cut the mustard but may be used in critical situations to turn things around initially, while you are changing over to sufficient fresh produce taken on a daily basis.

pH test strips can be used for saliva OR urine. They each have different ranges.

pH test strips come with a color chart, you immerse for one second and then match the colors, while it's still moist, from your strip to the one on the pkg to determine your pH number, if you have the TriMedica roll I use.

The pH range overall is 0 - 14; 7 is neutral, less than 7 is acidic, greater than 7 is alkaline.

The pH of urine varies greatly depending upon what you ate, and morning is different from evening, and is overall less accurate, per the docs I've listened to. But the test strip mfrs prefer urine. Urine is ideally or normally approx. 5.0 acidic in the morning, to 7.5 alkaline at night. So urine's range is 5.0 - 7.5.

The pH of saliva is preferred by Dr.s Mark Starr and John Apsley, which is good enough for me. Because they really know what they're talking about, but I'm a clueless novice. The test strip mfr says the ideal pH range of saliva is 6.4 - 7.2. However Dr Starr talks about going higher that 7.2, with Dr's oversight, for patients like my sister and others who have other conditions that are known and ongoing. For myself trying to dodge Type 2, trying to dodge cancer, and having known thyroid issues, I am very comfortable with higher than 7.2 for myself. However if you control it naturally by eating fresh produce, the produce will regulate it for you exactly how high or low as your body needs.

You can purchase pH strips from health food stores, from,, and many other places online. I did not find them in any pharmacy nor box store. Swanson & Vitacost are the two I'm familiar with.

And finally the whole point of pH is not how acidic or alkaline you are. The numbers are just indicators, like reading the numbers on a thermometer, or stepping on the scale and reading the number. The whole point of pH is the internal voltage in your bodily cells. Read Dr. Tennant's book on bodily voltage, and using pH like a thermometer. Cancer, fungus, etc are only able to survive and work in cells with low voltage.

    What would that dear one say to you if they could see you not caring about yourself? Listen to them. I know they would tell you to take care of yourself because you are worth it, and that sabotaging yourself won't bring them back.

    Boy, I know that fog feeling very well. It is so important to appreciate that excess food won't clear that fog--NO HOW! We keep trying and wish it would work, but it never can.

Still Struggling with Demon Caffeine

A brief history...I only started drinking coffee as an adult. In recent years, even a half of a small mug daily makes me feel yucky. So, about four months ago, I did a great detox for 95 days until I realized that the green tea I'd been drinking for the past month (and thought had no caffeine) had caffeine.

Even though it was a small amount and probably not bad compared to the benefits of the antioxidants, my psyche took this to mean failure. End of detox. Coffee cravings set in. Not that I enjoy the taste. I don't.

I went a bought a new little (4 cup) Mr. Coffee, hazel nut coffee, etc. I've been drinking a small mug of it for about five days now and feel totally awful. Troubled sleep, mega-jittery, and my body feels like I have mud flowing through it.

Isn't it said in lab experiments that human beings are the only ones who will continue to do a behavior despite negative consequences?

Have to tell ya, when I'm completely off caffeine, I have absolutely no energy. None. Zip. Yet, even with a small amount, I feel yucky.

So, where do I win in this battle? I don't know. I'd like to stop completely before I have too many days back into this behavior because my detox side effects are brutal and go on a long time. If I can cut that short, I'd like to do that.

Wonder why I have such a strong tie to coffee without even liking it? I've tried substituting herbal teas also. It must have a strong psychological reinforcement going on.

    When I drink coffee I feel very tired. My husband bought decaf one time and I didn't know. I was going through withdrawel and didn't know it. I thought I had the worse flu ever. For some reason I can have no coffee for a few days and I don't have any symptoms. I also cannot seem to use teas as an alternate to coffee. They just don't seem to have the body that coffee has. Oh well, I will find out soon enough. I start with no coffee on Sept.1.

  Wow... I've never heard of anyone having such a strong connection to something that they don't like. I have stopped all caffeine intake. I feel MUCH better. I think I don't get bogged down because I take a good multi-vitamin and also take a B50 vitamin. Seems to keep me going. Hopefully you'll find what works for you! emoticon

    Negative consequences do not always work. Human aren't the only ones with this problem.
I understand your pain... I didn't like smoking anymore but keep smoking (heavily I might add) I replace smoking with strong cinnamon mints. got a while to help me change.
Finding a suitable replacement does help when dealing with addition and habit.
I have found a replacement for when I want soda.... I have sassafras tea. That keep me very happy.
Don't give up... keep looking you will find what works for you.

    Oh, how I feel your pain!

I too struggle daily with this deamon. I too have tried to substitute other beverages -- but nothing delivers the jolt I seem to require like coffee. I have been told that decaf coffee or green tea is a step-down solution and that if I just give it a try, eventually I won't be craving the boost coffee gives me, but I have never found that. Others have suggested other supplements to increase energy, but, like you, I find I want the evil java regardless of the physical consequences.

Whatever are we to do? If you ever figure it out -- let me know. I am in the throes of a fit right now. The mug is in front of me and beckoning me. Just one cup a day is better than three?

It's nice to know that others are lured in as well.

My Lucky Day

Friday the 13th is usually my lucky day. I think we make our own luck, to a certain extent.

Guess I should go buy a lottery ticket and go to a casino. Nope, my idea of good luck is the good health I enjoy and the love of family and friends. Of course, a better economy would be very nice as well.
