Loss, Grief and Letting Go

Friday, June 04, 2010

For past three years eight loved ones died
And my sadness was something I've tried to hide.
Now three more are very ill
And so much of this grief is with me still.

But with SP I've learned to eat and drink
A healthy way that makes me think
More clearly and keep my head on straight
With protein and carbs that are first-rate.

So even though I've a broken heart I think
That life won't always have to stink.
One day soon the sun will shine
And this sorrow I can leave behind.

Until that day I'll do my best
To make sure I get my rest.
Now it's time to do just that
So I can be rid of the rest of this fat.

Even though it can be difficult at times taking care of yourself does help with the losses.
You are a wonderful writer. I'll hold you in my prayers.

New Walking Shoes

Thursday, June 03, 2010

Rockin and rollin in my new shoes
Is this exercise, or just the blues?
Feel like I'm 6 feet in the air
And walking like a drunk w/o a care.
How to adjust to these funky new shoes
Or is it just more money I blew
On yet another workout trick
That doesn't work worth a tick.
So out I'll go again on a trek
And looking so silly, oh, what the heck!

    About the new shoe
I've got some too
But you and me
Would safer be
If we did swim
No harm to life or limb!
While up and down the pool we skim
Enjoying our every whim!

Jury Still Out on New Athletic Shoes

Wednesday, June 02, 2010

The other day I bought those shoes with the thick soles that make you work out your upper legs and butt as you walk. You kinda roll on them? Someone told me they are advertised on TV and have a special name, but these are not that particular brand.

Okay, first of all, they take some getting used to. At first, I felt like I was walking on stilts. (okay, mild exageration) Then the shape of the bottom really takes awhile to adjust to. They make walking a real workout, but I'm not sure I like these. Fortunately, I didn't spend a fortune, and can take back the second pair which I bought for when these wear out.

Has anyone else tried them?

Nope I haven't tried them; glad to read your review of them. I buy shoes on sale, usually more than one pair, then keep them in the closet because I always end up needing a pair really bad on the spur of the moment. So this way I always have a back-up pair. Well, I did that a couple times without remembering I ALREADY had a back-up pair; so now I have extra, which is good since I'm unemployed, so I haven't tried on the latest and greatest, which doesn't sound to swift to me.

I usually wait a couple years after "new" things like this come out, to see if they are a flash in the pan or worth it. So I'm glad to read your review!

I have my Sketcher Shape Ups on right now!!! I love them, you are right though, they take some serious getting used to. When i first started walking in them, it felt like I was a rocking chair..lol But now that i've been wearing them for a while, my back stopped hurting and I have no stress in my legs!! They may look funky, and take some getting used to, but I love them!!

I debated about it and decided to buy shoes that will allow me to be safer on an EMT run. Pager goes off at the craziest times and I don't have time to change shoes!

They take a lot of getting used to, and my pair came with a DVD to learn how to walk with them, a first here. At least they were 20 percent off online at endless.com, and if I can't figure out how to use them without breaking my neck (on rugs in the house), then return shipping is free.

Good luck to both of us! emoticon

I bought a pair but have only been wearing them around the house because of my mobility issues Jean said I need to get used to them for two weeks before I can wear them outside.I sort of feel like I am in the circus ,the clown with the extremely long legs and very clumsy to go with it.I haven't severely bruised my tailbone yet ! I am reserving judgement on them though .I only bought one pair .

Plateau Woes

Tuesday, June 01, 2010

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
My plateau is my way
To a total boo hoo.

Working hard
To lose more weight
But nothing happens
So I debate.

Should I continue
This life of food woes
When the plateau tells me
No matter what way I go

I'll stay the same weight
And not lose a pound,
So I ate a whole watermelon
That'll make me round.

So tired of trying
But don't wanna be fat
Can't have it both ways
Here I go, where's the mat?

I'll huff and I'll puff,
Continue to try.
But if I don't lose more weight soon
I think I'll just cry.

What a great poem. But you are not alone. Plateaus seem to be a rite of passage for those of us on the path. Change up your exercise program, eat at the lower end of your calorie range, shake it up. It will pass and you will get off that plateau.

Do NOT cry! Congratulate yourself for all the hard work you've done. Maintaining weight you've lost is way better than yo-yoing. And the real point is to eat healthy, right? That's the most important thing!

Oh dear look at those thighs !
Said Cheri as she rubbed her eyes!
This plateau is no longer quaint ,
I must lose weight soon or I'll faint !
