Maybe, Maybe Not

Thursday, January 28, 2010

I've frequently mentioned this forever plateau I've been on and how it almost discouraged me to the point of stopping the whole process of losing weight. I've also read that this may be my goal weight according to my body's reluctance to give up more of that yellow matter. (smiling)

I've been thinking more about this lately. Not really sure I'm willing to work harder to lose more weight. That doesn't mean I'm going to abandon my exercise and healthy eating. But I'm not a person who wants to always focus on losing more, doing more of this, less of that, etc.

There is so much going on in the world and I don't have the patience to focus obsessively about diet, exercise, the scale, etc. It's way too self-absorbed a process for me. It bores me to write blogs about I, me, my. In fact, I'm boring myself right now. (smiling)

So, maybe at some point I'll decide to eat less, exercise more, or whatever it might take to lose the last 20. But, maybe not.

Let me know if you need help. I'm here for you. Have a wonderful day.

You know, it's funny. My cholesterol is a little over 200. I can accept that my body is comfortable at that number because I've been there for years. Why can't I accept that my body might be comfortable at the current number on the scale? After all, it's been in about the same place for over 2 years now....

My thought is, if you're healthy and the number is all vanity, then relax a little. But if you're not in the healthy zone, then keep pushing. I'm here for you either way, just like I know you are for me. Just let me know which way you want me to support you.

It seems to me that the closer you get to goal weight, the harder it is to shed. A little over a week ago I abandoned my scale out of frustration, because seeing the same number day after day regardless of healthy dieting and regular exercise was nothing but depressing. I've decided to try to weigh just at the end of the month, and focus on eating right and exercising as much as possible, knowing that it's the right thing to do, regardless of what the scale says. This being the end of the month, I did weigh in this morning, and have lost 2 pounds for the month. Not great, but take heart, it will come off eventually. Keep up the good work! You're doing great!

I've been to Lake Havasu City, AZ to visit my aunt. It's beautiful there! But, just to confirm with you, the summers are BRUTAL. My aunt, who loves the heat, leaves for the whole month of August. She goes to HI to visit her son because it's too hot in AZ even for her!

Good luck with your research!

Your blogs might be boring to you, but to at least one of your readers me, they've been entertaining, encouraging, motivating, supportive, and I can go on and on. So please don't stop - or be sure you keep checking up on me!!!

I just thought of something else, Michael Jackson's song - the one you know, "Don't stop until you get enough!!" I'm bad with names but I hope you know the song I mean. I'm humming it, but it's not coming to me!!! emoticon

Creating new habits is always tedious, initially and takes committed effort & time. Once established, habits have a way of happening without having to put so much time into them; that is why they are habits and why it is hard to change them and takes concerted and dedicated effort to do so.

I have been at a plateau for over a year. I realize I need to eat LESS and continue exercising and building muscle (or else I will lose a half pound every year after the age of 30, which in turn affects the old bones and in turn affects independence and in turn affects quality of life; why live longer otherwise?? ) so I have worked hard on making those "habits" and it is working. That is my a large part of my motivation; I realize no matter how much work I do, I am not in full control of my health; it is a gift. But I can help it be the best it can be, and to me, that is an act of humility.

But more importantly, there is much more going on that is not on the surface, and the growth THERE is what keeps me HERE! Keep on keeping on in whatever manner you choose; it is up to you and always has been. May you find what you want to do! emoticon emoticon

Well, let's see if you stay on the right track you will eventually get there. Sometimes fighting hard doesn't do it. I am still working on my first little goal. It's almost embarrassing! But I still am staying and making the necessary changes to get me to a fit and healthy mindset. The weight will come off when it comes off. In the meantime, you get to feel stronger, clothes fit better and the whole attitude adjusts. You are doing a wonderful job. I didn't know it had a time frame. emoticon

I find when I give up worrying about it I lose more LOL!Like you I get bored thinking about it all the time .In fact I probably should move my little ticker thing but I have been studiously ignoring it and just exercising (yes I do do more than just type though I may have the fastest fingers in the west !)I just hope things are going well for you and you are keeping smiling! emoticon

Amazing That January is Over

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

Wasn't it just yesterday we were celebrating the new year? How is it almost February already?

My month has gone well in the health dept and I'm pleased with food and exercise program. Haven't lost, but maintained. Several semi-occasions will mean eating out sensibly - my b'day, another day of going to Palm Springs and up San Jacinto by tram to hike and eat with the view, and a day away to Universal Studios with a yearlong free pass.

Feeling good, and ready for February. The month of love. The month I celebrate my b'day the entire time, not just one day. (smiling)

Hope all my SPfriends are doing well. If you ever need my help, let me know.

On Cruise Control

Nothing to write about today. Just cruising along fine.

I like the word "cruising". It makes me think of sailing on the Chesapeake Bay or in the Caribbean, the sails shivering in the wind and the mast singing to us...or it makes me think of riding in a convertible with the top down and just basking in the sun while doing the ordinary things of life. Cruising...I should do that too!

emoticon Well, you never know what you'll start with one of your blogs, do you? Philosophy 101 or Memory Lane, take your pick! emoticon

Could've Done This, Should've Done That.... But Did the Best I Could

Monday, January 25, 2010

I really don't spend a lot of time in my life looking back and doing the shouldda wouldda, couldda dance. HOWEVER....

Today is Day 365 since I joined SP and I look over my year. Yes, I'm happy with my progress in many ways other than weight loss. Good habits, smaller sizes, new friends, etc. I'm sure I might have done things differently to get better results, but considering the year its been with so many deaths of friends and loved ones, as well as constant road bumps of my own, I'm happy to just have kept healthy and above ground. (smiling) Maintaining good health definitely played a big role in my ability to handle stress better.

Thanks to all my SPriends, both present and past, who have supported and inspired me. The journey would not be as much fun without you.

Well, I think it sounds like you did SUPER! It is the hard times that truly show where we are at in how we handle them! So you ROCK! I think that is the biggest gift I have gotten from SparkPeople and Pals; is realizing that and living through it over the past several years.

And the bonus? You can look BACK and see what you want to focus on specifically moving forward! You can't do that if you don't have an honest and realistic idea of where you are truly AT! What a blessing!! Keep on keeping on! We cherish those who persevere and share!

Day 2 - There Was No Day 2, Sad but True!

Sunday, January 24, 2010

Thanks to all who sent me messages with kudos and awards for my attempting caffeine detox. I appreciate the support, but have failed. I made it 24 hours and could not stand the beginning of the migraine ordeal. I'll try again at a time when there is less going on.

Ooops, read them out of order.

I can't blame you for not wanting to deal with the migraine issues of detox. You have a lot going on right now. You'll know when the time is good for you to do it. I'm here if you need anything.

I agree..maybe cutting back slowly would be better to deal with the headaches. I slowly switched to caffine-free sodas over a 2-3 week period and didn't have any problems.

How bout instead of all of a sudden NONE go down in intake. You can monitor it. My friend Carol and I found a site maybe this one. that deals with caffiene intake. Just taper off its a very big drug.
