Hooray, Hooray, The End of a Month-Long Plateau!

Sunday, March 08, 2009

I've been frustrated with what felt like a plateau that would never end. This morning, I could not believe my eyes when I did my weekly weigh-in - -down a pound!!! This makes a total of 30 gone. I came to SP with 29 lbs gone, and this remaining 30 will be done hand-in-hand with my SPfriends. I'm thrilled with this 1 lb loss indicated on the scale today. Hooray, hooray! (Note: What I DO tend to forget is to not let the scale be the only indicator. For example, the other day a friend said she thought my entire body looked even slimmer than the 30 lost. So, I forget to notice the inches lost, in addition to the pounds.) emoticon

Back After a Few Days Away & Grateful for Good Health

Saturday, March 07, 2009

I was away for a few days, helping a friend go to a facility for cancer treatment. No stranger to illness or suffering prior to this, this trip was different in that it provided me a variety of self-growth opportunities. It also reminded me of how precious good health is, and how thankful I am to have it. And, what an important investment a healthy lifestyle is in maintaining that good health. I cannot describe the intensity and lessons of these past few days. It made all of my own problems look like a day at Disneyland. Nothing like putting things in perspective. emoticon emoticon emoticon

it is incredibly humbling and eye-opening whenever we see how we are taking good health for granted, but also how we don't live in the "now", how we "save up" things for later in life.
the father of a good friend of mine just died of cancer 2 days ago, in his mid-60s. the 2 years after his early retirement he spent battling the illness. all he did in his life was to work hard and to look forward to doing all the things he wanted to do in his life later after retirement.
whenever i see something like this it reminds me how important it is to live life to the fullest and to not take ANYTHING for granted.
i'm glad you had a "good" few days - if you can call it that under the sad circumstances - and that you got a chance to put things in perspective.

Heading Out and Won't Be on Computer

Wednesday, March 04, 2009

Well, I guess I'll be away from the computer for a couple of days as I'm headed out to help a friend in time of need. However, I want to thank all of my SP friends for their support and great advice, especially BineMelles who is always very helpful.

The More I Exercise, The More Famished I Am

Tuesday, March 03, 2009

I've blogged about this before, and as I step up my activity level, my appetite increases tremendously. Sure, I've been sticking to healthy stuff, but I'm mega-hungry. Guess I'll load up on veggies since they are so low-cal.

jesse, would you mind sharing your food and exercise tracker so i can have a look at it? this feeling famished all the time can't be right. what is your SP calorie range? did you enter the calories you are burning on an weekly average? i'm just wondering what could be wrong ... somehow i feel you might be aiming for too little calories.

Black beans and green beans are my "go to's" when I'm out of calories and I'm still hungry after a tough workout.

I had a problem with being hungry all the time for a while. Especially when I was working. Someone suggested that I add in some protein to my diet. I started eating hard boiled eggs for breakfast and now I am not hungry all the time. Perhaps some protein would help curb your hunger. Also you might, if you are not already, add in a multi-vitamin. That is the other thing I started doing regularly.

Good luck with keeping that hunger at bay.

A bike, a lake, and sunshine

Monday, March 02, 2009

Yesterday I took my bike to the lake and rode around it twice - about 10 miles. The combination of nature, exercise and rays was dynamite and put me on an endorphin high. I can see why people get addicted to their favorite exercise. Wow, if that's the way it'll make me feel, I'll do this as often as possible.
