So Far, My New Elliptical & I Have Not Bonded

I've had my new little elliptical for about 4 weeks now. It's a great little machine and I had gotten an amazing deal on it. But it's tough. I'd never done this exercise before getting the machine, and I'm not too fond of it. I'll have to learn to love it. So far, I can just do mere minutes on it and build up motivation and endurance from there. Will keep trying.

COngrats on your weight loss! thats amazing! I can't wait to be where you are in this process! :)
About the elliptical... I love this exercise. Just remember its WAY better for your knees than running! I like to go on it and kind of pretend like im running on the clouds... I feel like there is no impact on my knees so its like running in water or clouds or sand or something like that! I know its kind of tough at first but hang in there and you'll be running to the moon in no time! :)
Plus its an amazing calorie burner! I do 45 minutes every morning and try to do another 35 in the evenings 3 times per week...

    Hi!

First of all it sounds like you're really kickin butt!! That's great! Secondly,
it will take you some time to get used to it, but if you do use it everyday you'll bond. :) It took me a few months to go beyond 20 min., but then I kept pushing a little more everyday and soon I was on it for 30 min. Best wishes for many more burnt calories!! emoticon

    I saw your note on my blog, thanks for the support. I too have exercise equipment in my house (treadmill), and my record to date is two days a week before, well, I lose interest. I think I have ADHD. So I set little goals, since they are easier to achieve and won't tempt me to go do something I would rather do, like a root canal....so I go for 20 minutes at a time. I don't know about you, but if I don't do it first thing in the morning.....well, let's just say I can easily avoid the stairs to the family room later in the day.

You will find a way to fit it in, and make it less annoying. Some of us just aren't exercise fanatics...or like me- you could be coordinationally challenged :-)

Start small, think of other things (I personally like to watch really dumb tv shows so I can overthink the plots and yell at the characters) and add a minute or two a day.

    I was the same way when I started Pilates a year ago (already!). It was a 20 minute program and the exercises looked so easy but it almost killed me at first and I couldn't even get through the whole thing for the first 2 months or so. But it wasn't long before I was flying through the program with no trouble at all .... and suddenly, all my clothes were fitting better!

    OMG Yes! Keep trying it. That's how I felt about the elliptical. I remember the first day I got on it with my friend. We were side by side and she was going like extremely fast on it and looked happy doing it. I was going really slow and my thighs were killing me. After a week of doing it for 20 minutes a day I had built up enough endurance to make it that far at a high resistance and feeling like i wasn't going to die. You just have to get used to it, get on it more often, use an mp3 player and you'll for sure grow to love it. Good luck!

Plateau - again

I have reached a plateau at my 29th pound loss and can't seem to move it downward. Frustrating, but I'll be patient and work harder.

    I too am stuck on a plateau ... nothing has budged since before Christmas. It's very disheartening but I'm trying to force my way through it. A change in exercise routines and such will hopefully do the trick. Maybe it will for you too!!

QUESTIONS FROM A NEWBIE

Okay, after a couple of weeks on this great website, here are a few questions I wondered about:

-How do I weigh-in and change my weight on this site. It's probably staring me in the face, but can't find it.
-Exercise tracker - I'll have to reread how to use, but I just can't seem to track things the way it's set up to get points.
-Others' blogs... is there a way to read members' blogs for different topics, other than message boards and team huddles?

  Hi, you are right....this is a great website. Hopefully I can answer your questions....

To weigh yourself, you have to first edit your Sparkpage. Then, near the bottom is the section where you can create your ticker tape showing your weight. In the second paragraph (I think) is a hyperlink for "weigh in", in blue. Click on that and you can enter your new weight.

Exercise tracker - if you add cardio and/or strength training exercises (and then make sure you check them off), you should get Sparkpoints. If you're not, maybe you can email me (ksgaray) and tell me how you're recording your exercise?

From your Sparkpage, click on "view more blogs", then from that page, click on Browse New Blog Posts from Other Members. You can also go to anyone's Sparkpage and read their blogs, but I like looking at the newest posts and titles....that's how I found this one!

A 10 lb Weight Vest Given to Me

Yesterday was my birthday and one of my presents from a friend who is very supportive of my weight loss journey gave me a weight vest that you wear when you walk or exercise. When I lifted it out of the box, I couldn't believe how heavy 10 lbs is, and then I multiplied by3. I've lost 29 lbs so far. When I wore the vest on my walk, I was amazed to feel how tired I was - imagine what my poor body went through each day with 30 lbs hanging around! It boggles my mind and no wonder I feel so much better! I can only imagine how good I'll feel with the next 30 gone.
