Maybe I Won't Have to Pay My Bills

Friday, February 15, 2013

I was just going to do my online bill paying when I realized that I'll wait for another half hour. The asteroid is supposed to pass by pretty close to the earth; maybe I won't have to pay my bills after all. (smiling)

Wishing all a good day.

I Won't Allow "What If"

Thursday, February 14, 2013

Yesterday, I cleared away clothing (that is now too big) to put out for pickup today by a local charity. I've done this throughout my four years in this healthy lifestyle change, but this time, a small nagging thought started to creep in. "What if you need this larger size someday?"

I banished it immediately. This has been the first time in my life that I was overweight (hormones, overwork, less exercise, stress, and yes, over eating), and I never want to go through this again. Unless someone takes a bike tire pump and fills me with air like a Macy's parade balloon, I will not let myself gain weight again. Period. End of story.

Happy Valentine's Day. While you're busy loving others, don't forget to save a bit for yourself.

Did you keep one or two pairs of pants ? When I cleared out my closets I kept a couple of pairs of my largest sized pants. I figured one day I would do a "James Coco" before/after type photo.

And well, even though I don't ever plan on wearing size 16/18 pants again, keeping them around reminds me how far I've come since last wearing them.

I think it may be time for me to go through my closets.

The Irony of My Confession

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

The other day, I poured my heart out, but forgot that my body often varies up to 6 lbs for no apparent reason. After talking about how I've overeaten healthy stuff, and getting back on track, I weighed myself again.

ONLY 4 LBS UNTIL GOAL!!!! So, it was one of those crazy variations that motivated me to blog about overeating. But it was a good reminder to myself to keep on keeping on.

Wishing all a good day.

Cats Going On Carpets!!!! Why???

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

There is nothing new in diet or emotional situations to cause what I thought was an "accident" and now finding more of on the carpet. And why? Absolutely nothing going on. And the tough part is, when you have more than one cat, which one is the culprit? I'm not about to let the entire house become their litter box. Anyone gone through this? Any advice?

Have a great day.

My Keanu sometimes does this..he's 16 years old afterall and since he lost his momma cat a few years back he's just SO lonely. Who says cats don't grieve?

I also think since cats are so psychic they pick up their owners stress level. Heaven knows with this 'Save our home' fight going the last 3 1/2 years there is PLENTY of stress at our house!

I'd for sure agree with others on the illness ideas...but it could be momma stress absorbed too..ever think of that one?

Hugs...this is NOT fun! We love our babies and don't want them to suffer...but we also don't like cat urine smells either! emoticon

Hope you get it resolved quickly and let me know okay?

My best guess is one of the cats has a UTC infection or ill in some way. Cats and dogs do not like to mess where they eat or sleep. So if they can not make it to the litter or outside it usually is a medical problem or logistics of the litter pan or access to the outside.

A litter box for every cat plus one extra, maybe a covered litter box or if you have those at least one uncovered one, clean litter boxes daily, use an enzymatic cleaner to clean up their 'accidents' to try to get rid of the smell to prevent more 'accidents', if you find the culprit take him or her for a vet check to ensure there's no UTI or other health problem, and as someone else suggested Feliway - either sprayed where the cat is urinating or the diffuser can really help cats that are stressed, even when we don't think they really have a reason to be stressed. Good luck!!

Happened when our kitty had a UTI...vet said it was because it was painful to go, and she was associating that pain with the litter box...therefore, she was avoiding the box, blaming it for the pain. As soon as she got better, the behavior stopped.

We went through it and it onlyhappened once, which was at the end of his life when he was losing bladder control. I would suggest you get your cats checked out with a vet, that is not their normal way of acting.

Oh, I feel your pain. I've scoured the internet looking for things to help with this same mess. When we moved into our new house, we had four cats. One of them started peeing on the carpet, the furniture, all over. We found out that it was our boy because he was sick and we ended up having to put him down for kidney failure. What we've found to get rid of the smell for both the humans and the cats is arm and hammer spray (sold at target, i know for sure, in a yellow spray bottle in the cat section). We doused the area and scrubbed and scrubbed. We have to replace the carpet sometime soon, cause it was old to begin with, but that at least helped us with the smells.
Also, we bought a black light to show us where all the messes were. The spots you clean up with the spray will show white and the pee will be yellow, i believe. It helped us find random messes we dind't know were there.

Again, I am sorry for this... I know exactly what you're going through :-(

Do you have multiple litter boxes for your furballs? Our vet recommended we have three for our two cat home. I went for two litter boxes which works well for our home.

Other suggestions, which people have covered ... health issues, stress and could be age related. If you have a regular vet check-in pop in or call the office to discuss.

Use diluted vinegar to clean the areas they urinate on.

ALISHAB3 2/12/2013 1:58PM

Take them to the vet to be checked, when I was young I (like the other poster said about her girl cats) I had a UTI which caused me to go frequently, it might be that. Luckily, its easily solved with antibiotics.

Everyone's covered the topic of health issues that might cause it, but another is a dirty litter box. Cats are clean animals and don't like dirty litter boxes. They recommend having one litter box per cat, and cleaning the litter box or boxes you do have several times a day.
Good luck! Oh plus one cat could have had an accident there, and if you didn't use the special enzyme cleaner stuff to really get the scent out, another cat or cats could have decided to remark the territory. emoticon

The pet stores sell an air freshner type scent that helps to stop cats from spraying. Its calming to them. It could be a bladder infection.

Buy extra litter boxes until you know what's going on and put them wherever they seem to be going. You can buy the disposable ones. Also, close off rooms and keep them in one area, if you can. I had the same problem and for my cat, it was medical (urinary track infection). The best to you. emoticon Chelsea

Usually there's a medical reason for that sort of behavior . . . finding out the culprit is always tough. I always just tried to keep an eye on them to see who was doing what.

If it is an infection - often the culprit, but other things can cause it too - it can be an emergency, especially for males who can get blocked. If you see them crying in the litterbox, going in multiple to times & straining or producing very little . . . that's an emergency situation.

Sparked My Optometrist

Monday, February 11, 2013

Over the weekend, I went for my eye checkup and my doc is great. Been going to him, like, forever.

We were talking about good health at one point and he said he eats healthy, but doesn't exercise. I explained to him the SP suggestion of doing 10-minute increments throughout the day - including my idea of walking in place while watching TV (hey, it's a start). He said sure, I can do that. And seemed genuinely excited to start moving. Frankly, I could see the difference two years made since last seeing him. Although not overweight, his body looked like it longed for activity. I walked away more motivated as well. It was a good reminder that if you don't use it, you lose it. Muscle mass loss was obvious.

Wishing all a happy day.
