One Third of Americans...

Sunday, February 03, 2013

...don't watch the Super Bowl game. If you do, enjoy! I enjoy empty freeways and a virtual ghost town to travel through with no crowds whatsoever since everyone else is watching the game.

Have a fun day.

Every where except the grocery stores are empty ! I had to laugh the Deli I shop at had a big screen TV for everyone to watch! For me , I think those players make to much money - I do not buy into the hype !

I really enjoyed the football season this year and watched the play-offs.
So I was really excited about the Super Bowl this year, even if it is not "my" team
(Go Bears!). I think there was a lot of great photography, lessons to be learned,
great beauty in their movement (OK, their muscles are pretty cool too!), and insight to be gained from their personal stories. Plus it is also interesting to get a feel for what goes on inside the hearts and minds of some of these athletic men. I liked seeing them get emotional and how they act under stress. There was also drama about the head coaches & quarterbacks as well as different players. I also enjoyed a show about New Orleans. That is an extremely interesting town and they showed so much spirit making a comeback from Katrina. So, for me, it was fascinating and motivating! I could feel the energy all the way from New Orleans. Loved the half-time show too!

Two Fitbit Missteps

Saturday, February 02, 2013

Okay, two things that I've discovered about Fitbit:

-I thought it was reading the pedalling I was doing on the exercise bike, but last night I discovered that it's not. Disappointing since I do a lot of that.

-I noticed that the number of daily calories seems to run high. So, this morning, I checked to make sure that everything automatically resets to zero. Steps- 0, miles - 0, but the calories started the day at 421 before I even put it on!!! No wonder this number runs high!

Hey, sparkfriends, have a fun weekend.

The calories blew my mind when I first started using it too. I see several others have explained it (the same way it was explained to me) so I won't repeat lol. I don't look at that reading very often, I try to just focus on the total steps.

The FB does not do well for cycling activities. You might consider wearing it on your pants; however, your very active activity minutes will skyrocket! (and so will you burned calories).
With regards to the burned calories bear in mind that the FB's day end at 11:59 p.m. At midnight your FB resets ALL the numbers to zero. Your body burns calories all hours of the day so when you woke up and checked the number what you saw was the amount of calories your body burned during the night. I realize this is difficult to fathom as we are trained to think we only burn calories by doing something but that is not the case. Once again, I would recommend that you take a look at the FOOD PLAN on your FB page especially if you sync your food log from SP. This will give you a better understanding of what your FB can do.
I am so pleased that you keep asking questions!

Fitbit registers calories burned for just existing. When I wake up and put mine on in the morning it usually has 400 calories already burned for me too. I've been using my fitbit for over a year and havent had any issues with this.

It also does have issues registering cycling. I wear mine on my sports bra when I work out, but others have said on different forums that if you clip it to your sock it will register better. I override my calories burned on the website when I exercise since I also wear a HRM, and especially for cycling there is generally a huge difference. :)

KRISTINE99 2/2/2013 5:54PM

Like someone else said, it has calories burned already showing before you put it on because the cal burned number is based on the cals you burn just from being alive plus exercise.

Report Inappropriate Comment

Maybe something is off with setting. That makes no sense. I know it doesn't count the cycling.

Report Inappropriate Comment
4_MY_LIFE 2/2/2013 1:58PM

The reason it already has calories is you burn calories just by breathing. The calories burned from the day isn't just based on movement but how much your burn by living. It is explained better somewhere on the website, I've seen it, probably somewhere on the boards.

LIVINGFREE19 2/2/2013 1:51PM

Fitbit Almost Went into The Wash

Friday, February 01, 2013

It's great that the Fitbit is so non-obtrusive, but the downside is that it's easy to forget it's there. I was falling asleep last night when I suddenly realized that I'd put my bra into the hamper to be washed today. I had to spring out of bed to retrieve the Fitbit that was still attached! Yikes! If it goes the way of the washing machine, there will be no replacing it. So it's something to put on the "must remember" list.

Wishing all a happy day.

Comical Fitbit Thoughts

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

So here I am in, like, the 4th day of using this cool new Fitbit. And I caught myself with some thoughts that, if left unattended, could be absurd and ridiculous.

1. I forgot to put my Fitbit on, so there's no sense walking since it won't count.

2. Oh, my! Look at all the steps I did today and, since I burned so many calories, I can eat more.

3. I won't get competitive with myself with this Fitbit. If that's the case, why am I unhappy with today's numbers as opposed to yesterday's.

4. I won't get "addicted" to this little tool. So why do I make sure I have it on at all times and check it out a couple times a day?

It seems that the things that I resist the most - like when I first joined SP and didn't want to buy a Fitbit - are the very things I wind up using the most and being the most beneficial.

Wishing all a good evening.

"You've gotta try Nutella," she said.

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

I walked into my fave little grocery store (fresh and easy) to find strawberries on sale. My store friend (you know how you make friends by shopping regularly at a place) grabbed my arm and excitedly advised, "oooooh, you've just gotta try Nutella with strawberries. It's amazing."

I smiled and laughed softly, thanking her. But I good -naturedly explained that I don't need one more thing that is delicious in my life. I've worked hard to recently get rid of sugar after being a lifelong sugar queen of the universe. I'm sure Nutella is delicious; I'll take her word for it. (smiling)

On another note, I am really really (really) enjoying this little pink Fitbit of mine. After being so resistant to it, I'm very glad I made the leap. And if you get one, don't forget to join the SP Fitbit team. The leader, Rockman, is so helpful and the members are terrific.

Wishing all a wonderful day.

When I first was introduced to Nutella, long before I paid attention to sugar grams, I thought it was overly saccharine. And no wonder! I just double checked online and a single serving, which is two tablespoons, has 21 grams of sugar.

Nutella's website made me laugh. They tried to imply if some Nutella spread on bread along with a glass of orange juice and several pieces of fruit would consist of a healthy breakfast...
