Confused after 1st Fitbit Day

Sunday, January 27, 2013

What was disappointing was that, upon checking the Fitbit site and having used the dongle, only calories showed up. Not number of steps or miles. Why? I don't know. I was looking forward to a grand total.

It has already reset, so I can't read the numbers for the day off the Fitbit itself Disappointed.

(p.s. ROCKMAN saved the day! Thankyou!)

(another p.s. Fitbit seemse to give a huge number for calories burned. Someone said they halve that number for a more realistic number.)

At first it is confusing a little to us all. You'll get it in just a day or so. Glad someone explained it to you for now. You'll also think it couldn't possibly pick up all your steps since you've been busy all day. You HAVE to walk about 3000 steps extra, to get the 10000. It is definitely a motivational tool to do that.

The Fitbit is easy to use. I've also used the Go Wear Fit and the calories burned are very similar to what the Fitbit shows. Remember it records calories burned just for being alive and breathing plus your exercise. The data is always in the Fitbit.

Don't worry about losing data. Your Zip will hold the data for up to 4 weeks. I posted on the message board but I will repeat here. Are you keeping the USB dongle connected AT ALL TIMES. If you don't do this then your Zip will not sync (unless you force a sync WHILE THE USB DONGLE IS CONNECTED).
If you are keeping the USB Dongle connected at all times then you should check to make sure that your Zip is paired with your computer. Here is the instructions on how to do so (plus other helpful tips for your particular issue):

INITIAL FITBIT IMPRESSIONS

Saturday, January 26, 2013

I received my new pink Fitbit Zip late yesterday afternoon. Easy to set up, I was surprised at how small it is, yet how much it can calculate! Even with the few hours I had it on in the house, it was amazing how many steps I took! Too bad it doesn't measure spinning as well. (smiling) BTW, clipped to my bra, it has a very secure clip and case.

Seeing actual numbers is eye opening; kinda like the time when I started here on SP and began paying attention to reading calories on food labels. Wow, nothing like seeing those numbers!

This is going to be fun! Wishing all a good weekend.

I think you will enjoy your FitBit. As another Sparkler said, you can compete against yourself from day to day (or you can compare yourself to others on the FitBit site). It helps with combatting the temptation to be sedentary for very long. Get those step in! emoticon

Uh oh.... better go read the blog post I wrote this morning......that little Fitbit is AH-MAZING but addicting! Welcome to the "I just need to run up and down the stairs 5 more times to get my 50 floor badge" club. Or, the "just let me walk 7 more laps around the family room to get my 20,000 step badge" club.

If you like numbers and you like competition, you're going to love your Fitbit!

I better run, I've only got 2 floors in this morning which is only the equivalent of climbing a tall giraffe according to Fitbit.

Good Luck!

Changes During My Time w/ SP

Friday, January 25, 2013

I tracked my package and Fitbit is due to arrive today. So, if I can set it up tonight, I'll start using it tomorrow. Usually my mail arrives late afternoon.

Since this is my SP anniversary week, I've pondered what has changed over these four years.

The biggest change is an overall awareness of what I'm putting in my mouth and how much exercise I'm getting. There is a dramatic difference in the contents of my grocery cart. I read labels more often and pay attention to things I didn't before - serving size, calories, etc.

I guess the list can go on, but suffice it to say that another very important factor during my four years has been YOU. The support of those former sparkers, along with present ones, has been absolutely invaluable. I appreciate it so much.

Have a wonderful day.

(p.s. OMG! I forgot my biggest victory of all... very little (very) sugar - almost none. After a lifetime of being the sugar queen of the universe! Next, caffeine.)

Belt Caper Irony & Misc. Thoughts

Thursday, January 24, 2013

Before 6 years ago, I had the luxury of never thinking about food and weight gain. I had years of collections of belts - all kinds, styles, etc. A belt diva. During this past 6 years, I gave them all away with other things to charity and figured belts are out and I'd never need them again. Fast forward to this week. I'd bought a few pairs of on-great-sale skinny jeans that were a bit loose in the waist. Not going to buy smaller pants, what did I race to Target for yesterday? Yup, a belt. I should have kept a couple. (smiling)

It's funny that I'd completely forgotten about my 4-year spversary until a friend here reminded me. A couple of months ago, I blogged about it being upcoming, but then I forgot about it. Another irony. When I first found this site, I'm the one who wasn't going to do SP because: 1) I'm not a joiner, 2) I don't agree with their drug ads, 3) I don't want to be bothered with details like tracking, 4) It's another gimmicky way to lose weight, 5) whatever else silly stuff passed through my brain.

The irony is that I've become one of SP's biggest supporters. Not only do I tell others about it routinely and bring them here, but I buy the products and participate as much as possible. These four years have been filled with every possible loss and trauma that I could imagine happening in my life, and SP was the one stable thing that helped me keep focus on health and well-being. Even when I was just doing baby steps, at least I was still headed in the right direction. And, of course, I went through the inevitable times when I wanted to "take a break."

Okay, friends, I appreciate your support (from those in the past as well as present) and wish all of you the best.
