Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide Curiosity

Monday, January 14, 2013

I've read about this for years and wonder if anyone else has, or even tried it. There are supposedly some health benefits to using a few drops in water daily.

Still considering getting a Fitbit, but not really sure I'd use it and really don't want to waste the money if I don't. Everyone here loves it, though, so I'm considering pros and cons.

Have a good day, sparkies!

I've never used food grade hydrogen peroxide to ingest. I've used for canker sores in my mouth but that's about it. I say to research it before trying it. I've heard that it can kill the good bacteria in your gut so be sure to research it before you do it.

As for the fitibit I was very tempted to get one but after reading many different articles on it, it seems to just be an overpriced pedometer. It may have a little flower motivator thing on it and I may get one some day but for now I think what I really need / want is a heart rate monitor.

There have been quite a fe blogs about people's experiences with fit bit and most are positive.
Good luck with your decision.

We use food grade hydrogen peroxide, diluted to about 3% as a throat spray we carry with us everywhere. I even use a spray or two up the nose. We use it this time of year after going to the grocery stores etc. My husband has an autoimmune disease, and my mom is 91, so I had to figure out something to keep them from getting sick. So far, my husband started getting a sore throat and went to bed, he used 5 sprays about 10 times and was well by morning. My mom was exposed to a bad cold and never caught it. So right now I am swearing by the stuff. Oh and I swear by the fitbit too Haha.

I would like a FitBit to see if it would help me with stuff and tracking, but I don't think I'd actually buy myself one. I'd have to receive it as a gift. So many people love them, I'm really curious. I've also never heard of the hydrogen peroxide thing before.

I tried using a Fitbit to get me to walk less because walking is really bad for my feet, but just like with everybody else, it perked up my competitive side and made me walk more. I ended up giving it to a friend. I don't know about the peroxide.

I'm one of those folks who "swished" a weak solution of hydrogen peroxide and water after I brushed my teeth. It is supposed to help reduce gum inflammation and gingivitis. Well, I was talking to my dentist and he says it isn't necessary. You could use a solution of table salt and water to achieve the same results. he hydrogen peroxide was overkill. I know some folks use it to whiten their teeth, but I was told that baking soda was better. that's why I use a toothpaste with baking soda.

Fitbit... I am currently using a Fitbit that I found on the street. I posted an AD on craigslist to see if I could find the owner. For now, I'm using it until the battery runs out. it's not a bad little fitness device. It can be very motivational when it comes to being more active.

It tracts number of steps, stairs (this is actually elevation, not stairs), distance, calories burned, etc. How accurate is it ? I'm still working that out. On Saturday, it said I walked for 20,000 steps or 10 miles. Which isn't out of the realm of possibility for me. I have walked 10 miles in a day. However, that day I think it was closer to 8 miles by my own calculations.

Would I buy one for myself ? Probably not. I really do like it, but I think it's too expensive for what it does. I think a pedometer is more economical.

Well, I've heard of hydrogen peroxide use for teeth cleaning. You might want to check out www.earthclinic.com. The website is a great source of information for alternative and holistic health remedies.

I keep hearing about the Fitbit from other sparkies, too! I am still undecided, especially as I am a relatively low-tech person. I don't even have a smart phone or Wii system. I've done the Wii Fit and Zumba, though, at a friend's house and really liked it. I might go for the latter device if I save up enough money.

And thanks again for reading and commenting on my blog, Slimmerjesse. I really appreciate your support and encouragement! Have a wonderful and healthy day :D

P.S. You asked about my Vitamin D intake. I was taking 10,000 units a day. Actually, I get another blood test tomorrow because of my yearly endocrinology screening. We'll see if my staving off of Vitamin D supplements has taken me out of the "toxic" range into the optimal range of 50-100.

3 LBS TO GO UNTIL GOAL!!!!!

Sunday, January 13, 2013

Four years ago, when I set out on this adventure and set this goal, it seemed like the impossible dream. It was the first time in my life that I had to deal with weight and I stayed at a plateau for the first three years after losing 34 lbs. Then, last November, I got totally serious with myself and tried something that I never tried before. Since November, I'm down 9 lbs. - 43 total. I was thin all my life, but hit a patch about 7 years ago where several factors really ganged up on my body.

For me, carbs is the key. In November, I put myself on very limited carbs and the weight came rolling off (plus, lots of exercise). The holidays hit and I have to admit that I did a little damage, but not much to speak of.

Last week, I started my limited carbs again and am down two lbs in three days. 3 more until goal. At that point, I will take a realistic look at how my body looks and feels at this goal weight. As I blogged recently, this is the weight I feel best at, not the one that's on the charts.

Have a happy day.

I SHOULD BE EXCITED, BUT NOT

Friday, January 11, 2013

This is crazy, I know. I'm 5 lbs away from my goal weight and already feeling disappointed. Why? My goal weight is what I set for myself based on how I feel I look best. It is not the number on the charts of what I "should" weigh. I know, I know. Go by what feels best for ME, right? Well, sure, I know that. If I lose any more than the remaining 5, my opinion is that I look too thin and face gets gaunt. I guess I'll cross this bridge when I get there. Meanwhile, yes, I AM excited a bit and shouldn't let anything take the edge off the thrill.

Wishing all a happy day.

I'm excited (and a wee bit envious!) that you are so close to your goal. Congratulations! But even when you reach your desired weight, the journey isn't over. You still have the maintenance phase to work through. Many people have difficulty with that. And don't think gaunt - think chiseled or elegant or defined like a fashion model. If you say positive words about your appearance, you will believe them.

Firstly congratulations on getting so far on meeting your goal! It's really terrific! I think the let down is a normal reaction as your mind unconsciously wonders what to focus on next. I was on someone's page today and they saed this: "once you arrive at a goal, a new one is set", or something to that effect. Maybe once you get there you want to focus on pampering your new self with yoga, Tai Chi, taking a class in photography to express the beauty around you, or whatever it is that you find will give you a higher purpose and a keener appreciation of what you have accomplished. emoticon emoticon You are an inspiriation. I feel like my face looks guant and it's not a "pretty weight" for me to be in some ways but at the same time, I still have tummy flab! I know it's impossible to "spot" lose so what's a girl to do? I think it's part of the journey, trying to figure out your own comfort level and level of optimal health. You have the rest of your life to figure out at what exact weight you feel and look more comfortable and happy. Good luck getting to that goal number and ENJOY! You worked hard for it!

The ER Reminder

Thursday, January 10, 2013

As though I need a reminder when I'm a regular member of SP, the ultimate reinforcer, my recent visit to the emergency room shook me awake further.

I brought someone into the ER recently and, as a helper, was able to sit there while waiting and observe. It reminded me that the decisions I make today - both large and small - may help me stay healthy in the future.

I also had an interesting short conversation with a nurse about water. He said that the first thing most patients need when they arrive in the ER is fluids. That, when asked if they drank water that day, they say yes and proceed to list coffee and soda. He said many think that as long as they drink liquids, that counts as water.

Several years ago, I heard a MD on the radio talk about just how important water really is - going into specifics that were astounding as to diseases that eventually thrive in bodies that are relatively arid. Since then, I have been a preacher of sorts reminding friends and family to drink drink drink.

Wishing all a wonderful 10th day of this "new" year that is already moving right along.

Yes, so many patients are dehydrated when they come to the ER--both adult and children. Soda pop is not helping the problem either. I put my foot down and told me husband that soda is no longer allowed in the house. He and my girls drink it like water. If I drink it, my pain level soars to a 10!!!

All she could do is really just sit there in bed she didn't drink enough water, because she couldn't just get up and hit the toilet with two broken legs. This was in the middle of summer too, Will needless to say another 911 call and a visit to the ER for being severly dehydrated. The doctor told her she could have DIED!! She drinks nothing but water to this day! I preach to everyone how important water is. Now i have to practice it!! emoticon
