I SHOULD BE EXCITED, BUT NOT

Friday, January 11, 2013

This is crazy, I know. I'm 5 lbs away from my goal weight and already feeling disappointed. Why? My goal weight is what I set for myself based on how I feel I look best. It is not the number on the charts of what I "should" weigh. I know, I know. Go by what feels best for ME, right? Well, sure, I know that. If I lose any more than the remaining 5, my opinion is that I look too thin and face gets gaunt. I guess I'll cross this bridge when I get there. Meanwhile, yes, I AM excited a bit and shouldn't let anything take the edge off the thrill.

Wishing all a happy day.

It's been such a long journey and we aren't the same women we were when we started this....like I said in my blog today, it's not just the weight and I know for you too, it's been an emotional journey at times and one of learning and change. We're still evolving...LOL I wonder (what/who) we will be like when/if we ever decide we're actually fully evolved! emoticon

I'm excited (and a wee bit envious!) that you are so close to your goal. Congratulations! But even when you reach your desired weight, the journey isn't over. You still have the maintenance phase to work through. Many people have difficulty with that. And don't think gaunt - think chiseled or elegant or defined like a fashion model. If you say positive words about your appearance, you will believe them.

Congratulations on nearing your goal weight! Actually, I have the opposite problem -- even when I am at a healthy weight my face looks much plumper than my body. And when I am overweight (as I am now) my face and neck look ridiculously chubby. I guess this is more akin for apple-shaped women.

Firstly congratulations on getting so far on meeting your goal! It's really terrific! I think the let down is a normal reaction as your mind unconsciously wonders what to focus on next. I was on someone's page today and they saed this: "once you arrive at a goal, a new one is set", or something to that effect. Maybe once you get there you want to focus on pampering your new self with yoga, Tai Chi, taking a class in photography to express the beauty around you, or whatever it is that you find will give you a higher purpose and a keener appreciation of what you have accomplished. emoticon emoticon You are an inspiriation. I can only dream of reaching my goal; doesn't it just seem like 2 steps forward, one step back. Good luck, my friend!!!

I can relate to this. I was within 5lbs of my goal weight (now w/in 10lbs thanks to the holidays) and it's frustrating. I feel like my face looks guant and it's not a "pretty weight" for me to be in some ways but at the same time, I still have tummy flab! I know it's impossible to "spot" lose so what's a girl to do? I think it's part of the journey, trying to figure out your own comfort level and level of optimal health. You have the rest of your life to figure out at what exact weight you feel and look more comfortable and happy. Good luck getting to that goal number and ENJOY! You worked hard for it!

The ER Reminder

Thursday, January 10, 2013

As though I need a reminder when I'm a regular member of SP, the ultimate reinforcer, my recent visit to the emergency room shook me awake further.

I brought someone into the ER recently and, as a helper, was able to sit there while waiting and observe. It reminded me that the decisions I make today - both large and small - may help me stay healthy in the future.

I also had an interesting short conversation with a nurse about water. He said that the first thing most patients need when they arrive in the ER is fluids. That, when asked if they drank water that day, they say yes and proceed to list coffee and soda. He said many think that as long as they drink liquids, that counts as water.

Several years ago, I heard a MD on the radio talk about just how important water really is - going into specifics that were astounding as to diseases that eventually thrive in bodies that are relatively arid. Since then, I have been a preacher of sorts reminding friends and family to drink drink drink.

Wishing all a wonderful 10th day of this "new" year that is already moving right along.

Yes, so many patients are dehydrated when they come to the ER--both adult and children. Soda pop is not helping the problem either. I put my foot down and told me husband that soda is no longer allowed in the house. He and my girls drink it like water. If I drink it, my pain level soars to a 10!!!

I agree! Low-grade chronic dehydration can cause multiple problems. It's so dry in Phoenix, Arizona I try to get at least 64 ounces of water a day.

You are so right on about water. I almost lost my mother a couple of years ago when she took a bad fall and broke both her legs at 65. All she could do is really just sit there in bed she didn't drink enough water, because she couldn't just get up and hit the toilet with two broken legs. This was in the middle of summer too, Will needless to say another 911 call and a visit to the ER for being severly dehydrated. The doctor told her she could have DIED!! She drinks nothing but water to this day! I preach to everyone how important water is. Now i have to practice it!! emoticon

Banishing (almost) the Scale

Wednesday, January 09, 2013

I never even owned a scale in my life until four years ago, when I embarked on this weight loss adventure. I'd never gained weight and never even thought about it; thus, no need for a scale.

Okay, I bought a scale in October 2009. The scale served as one of several ways to mark the progress (or lack thereof). However, in 2013, I'll use it - maybe - twice a month to track my loss and make sure I'm going in the right direction. There comes a point when you realize how easy it would be for those numbers to drive you nuts. My famous story is how I recently varied 6 lbs in the course of a mere 4 hours!!! And that was with nothing happening in-between to affect the scale's outcome! So, I refuse to let the scale rule.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

I don't think the scale rules me - but I am addicted to the darn thing. What I read on it each morning doesn't affect my feelings or behavior.... but I have to know the numbers! The program I am following actually wants a daily weigh in for several weeks, then reduces the readings to once a week. That is going to be difficult emoticon

I agree completely! I think twice a year is good. Anymore than that and it can drive you insane! I think it puts more stress on us than needs to be. I read an article once about many of the SP staff. Most, if not all of them, don't use the scale. Even Coach Nicole doesn't nor SP Coach Jen. Most of them either measure or just go by how their clothes are fitting. emoticon emoticon

13 is My Lucky Number

Tuesday, January 08, 2013

So I feel like this year will be a good one. Relative to the past 5, anything will be better! (smiling)

Wishing all a good day.
