it might be - but again - it might be tomorrow - or then again - it may be in 100 years. Don't think the Mayans had any special message from God that could contradict the Bible. But it could be the 21st. Very interesting, huh? :)

No, I don't, but know some that did. I say did, because more and more came out, like the special on Discovery Channel etc saying it was just the end of that tablet and not predicting the end. Personally, I believe like the Bible says, that no man will know, and shouldn't try to predict. Believing that way has sure helped me not get in a fuss over all the predictions.

If you believe in what the bible says then, NO... the 21st will NOT be the end unless it's just a mere coincidence. The Bible states that no man will know the time that Christ will come back and the world will end.

No, I don't believe it at all. I truly believe man does not know or will not know when the world will end. There is always the speculation though!
In so many ways I wish it were true!

Tears Over the Connecticut School Shootings

Friday, December 14, 2012

It seems a daily horror now - mass shootings. I am so very sad over today's news and the little children who were shot and killed (as well as the adults, of course). I will refrain from expressing views on society. Words fail me.

Slept Through the 6.4 Earthquake!

Friday, December 14, 2012

I have never gotten used to how scary earthquakes are since moving to southern California many years ago. I know that every geographic area has its own weather nightmarish potential, but earthquakes are pretty unique. There is no warning and there is nowhere to run for cover. Yikes!

I've had a feeling we were going to start rockin and rollin soon, so I sleep in sweats so that it's kinda like street clothes, but a bit more comfy to sleep in. This one hit about 2:38 am and surprised that I didn't jolt awake as I usually do.

Speaking of weather, I hope to buy the 12-12-12 concert on iTunes and am happy that proceeds will go to help the victims of the hurricane. I watched portions of the concert and it was fun.

Wishing all a wonderful day.

(p.s. Radio just reported that we've had literally hundreds of aftershocks since the big quake. And, fyi, we are not that far from San Onofre nuclear power plant, which has been offline since the beginning of the year with problems they have not been very forthcoming about.)

I lived in LA during the last big quake in 1994 - I was in LA setting up a Distribution Center , so I was living in Marina Del Ray on a sailboat just down the Pier from The Cheesecake Factory where I used their facilities in the Marina to shower. You can imagine my surprise when the building started to move while I was stark naked in the shower ! Very scary for a Land Lubber from Chicago , I give you guys credit , that really frightened me however just last year we had a small quake here in Chicago as we live on a massive fault line . Happy to hear you are OK.

We live in Los Angeles (for 6+ years now) and slept through the whole thing, too, but it was 160+ miles offshore so I'm not sure there was much rocking or rolling here to awaken us. I've also had the feeling, though , the the time is near for such a big event. It's good to be prepared. We have our earthquake kit, but I wonder if we'll be able to even get to it when the time comes.

I grew up in So. California. San Bernardino, then Pomona/Montclair. I never knew a time without the quakes. The last 30 years I've lived where they have very very few. Although the NW Seattle area did have some. I've felt So. Cal's earthquakes mildly here in Southwest AZ. They are scary aren't they? You really don't have time to do anything before they are over. Still, I'd rather have earthquakes than hurricanes I think. I'm told our Monsoons are natural disasters that take many lives too. I find that hard to believe.

NORWOODGIRL 12/14/2012 5:43PM

I would find that terrifying. But I guess when you live with the threat/possibility the fear dims - until the quake actually happens. Wow. Glad everything is OK.

It makes sense that you sleep in something "ready to roll" in. Do you have an emergency backpack or something prepared too? It's interesting how getting ready for our self-supported bike trip has put us in much better position to deal with a prolonged power outage. Water is the biggest issue in my opinion.

Rain is So Soothing & Rare

Thursday, December 13, 2012

It rains so seldom here, that when it does, it's a special event! (smiling) I love hearing it today, not to mention how brown and dry everything is w/o adequate rainfall. All of nature is being hydrated, and my heart and soul are being soothed by the lovely falling drops.

I've enjoyed the rainy days we've had lately, but our weather has been strange this year. I'm in NE Ohio and we usually have at least 8 inches of snow by now - no snow, several rainy days with temps in the 50s. (Today was beautiful, 45 and sunny.) Our summers are usually warm with temps in the mid 80s - we had 28 days in the high 90s and NO rain. We even had a few days over 100. Everyone was complaining about no rain this summer, now they're complaining about the rain!
I still have pansies blooming in my flower bed closest to the house!
