Pumpkin Pie Report Card

Okay, let's start with the positives and work our way down.

I started with day with a one pound loss and was thrilled. I DID do a lot of exercise. Pedalled on the exercise bike during the Macy's parade and then a longgggg walk later in the day. Did
great with portion control at main meal.

Cut the pie into small pieces and froze it, taking one small piece out for myself. Made it through the day and then toward evening...

This is always the attitude that sinks me. "Oh, I did so well and am in control of this. So, I'll have a bit more." When it comes to certain things, that just doesn't work. Sure, I could exert that pesky thing called willpower, but I didn't.

On the positive side, I didn't eat the entire pie. And it was a small one overall.

At this point, I will leave it to your imagination as to how much I ate. Let's just say I should be oink oinking today. But this is a once-a-year thing and have no temptations during Xmas season.

I give myself an A for good intentions. An F for outcome.

    Congrats on being human... but I bet that doing the bike during the parade and walk are newer traditions that you can be proud of. So you get an A+ for fitness.

I think you should get an A overall because you did get in some activity and you did manage portion control for the most part. Plus you did not eat the WHOLE pie. Hehe, isn't that always the kind of twisted logic that gets us - that because we're doing good, it's time to do something not so good that leads us down a slope to not doing well.

    How enjoyable your blog was. So true to life. I did good yesterday, but there are sooo many days that one bite of something sets me off. It is what it is. We move on with our healthy eating lifestyles. The only other choice is not to. And we know how that worked for us.

    Good for you!! Losing 1 lb on Thanksgiving is huge! Well done!! Pumpkin pie happens to be the lowest calorie treat of all pies, so not the worst indulgence. I assume the serving(s) were not buried under ice cream or a whipped topping, another big plus. I can't say I was so disciplined on my Thanksgiving :P

    How are you doing today? In the overall scheme of things, 1 day and 1 overindulgence (even a big one!) won't be a disaster unless you use it as an excuse to overeat again. Stay on track now and you'll do great emoticon emoticon

    I understand that mindset. And if I hadn't been nearly 6 lbs. above my maintenance weight.... I'm sure I would have indulged. But the fear, guilt, and shame of my weight gain kept me in check.

  I ate two pieces myself. Not beating myself up though as pumpkin is one of my favorites. So, I'm getting lots of exercise today to help get back on track. Blessings!

Oh My....Pumpkin Pie!

I know I'll be crossing paths with pumpkin pie on Thursday, and I know how to resist things like that. HOWEVER, in past years, I've started at breakfast and had the entire pie devoured (and enjoyed) by early afternoon. I relied on my lifelong body's ability to do that sort of thing without gaining weight. Of course, it also contributed to keeping me on that forever plateau I recently broke through.

I can't make this a bigger deal than it really is or else, by the time it appears, it'll take on a life of its own.(smiling) And, in perspective, with so many truly important issues in the world, I feel silly thinking about trivialities like daily eating and health. But they are not really trivial in the overall scheme of things.

Glancing into my personal crystal ball, and based on the hard work I've done in November (and 7 lbs down, which I intend to blog about soon), I can tell you that I will conquer the pumpkin pie - by giving it away.

    I usually do pretty good at abstaining from it all on Thanksgiving. Its the darn leftovers that torture me. I wish I could toss them, but that wouldn't be fair to my family.

    I don't care for pumpkin pie but have the same feelings about homemade Christmas cookies. All my friends think they're doing me a favor by bringing me some - and I always give them to the neighbors after my friends leave - If not, I'll eat the entire plate of cookies in one sitting! I'm posting a "CHRISTMAS COOKIE FREE ZONE" sign on my front door this year!

    you could make your self pumpkin brownies and freeze the rest and just have one healthier than the pie. or you could do pumkin cranberry bread, or muffins. all better than the pie just remember to freeze the rest besides your ultra healthy portion that way you can have your pumkin and eat it too. Have a great thanksgiving.you are doing awesome I know you can continue

    Know the feeling!! Been there done that! I have already tasted some already-one of my fave pies in the world! As a matter of fact all things pumpkin flavored is my addiction. Hang tough!

    Pumpkin is healthy so I will nix the crust (white flour, butter/lard, sugar, etc,) and the sugar in the filling and make a healthy substitute. I will use portion control. It's what I do every year. Good job on avoiding your nemesis.

    All you need is the Inside Out Weight Loss technique called the pre-do. You imagine yourself enjoying your Thanksgiving day without feeling the call of the pie until after your meal is over, then you enjoy a single slice, savoring each bite, stopping when satisfied and feeling pleasantly full. Just imagine this everynight for about 5 minutes before you go to sleep, then, come the big day, you will find that you just have a wonderful time, without the pie being larger than life, and without giving up enjoyment. Its a great technique, very effective, and its free.

Where Did My Lost Lbs Go?

I lost 7 lbs in the past 15 days, but now up 3 for absolutely no reason. Makes me wonder why I even bother. It's too much work for very little return.

(UPDATE: HOORAY - GOT MY 7 LBS GONE AGAIN. YES, WATER WEIGHT!)

    The scale is the LAST one to know when you've lost weight.

Don't give a scale any power. YOU have the power to make your life healthier, more fit and much more rewarding. Even your internal organs know more about what's happening to your body than a scale does.

Notice how your clothes fit, when your ring gets loose, when it's easier to tie your shoes, when you can race up the stairs without puffing, when your face looks different, when you fit into the movie theater seat more comfortably. All of those non-scale victories are more valid than a scale!

You can do this, and you be so glad you dedicated yourself to improving your life. emoticon Go for it....Go determined & succeed!

    Here's the deal...never trust the scale...NEVER, EVER, NEVER...it lies and laughs wickedly when we believe the numbers it spits out! I've learned to weigh myself once a week, same day, basically same time. But I STILL can not break the step on, step off, step on, step off...step on for ONE last time to REALLY make sure the numbers synch...they usually don't and then I'm in a ....which one was really...the true one...quandry. See...scales are evil! emoticon Trust the way your clothes fit...or your tape measure...much more user friendly! emoticon emoticon emoticon

  A very important thing I learned from many Sparkers Is that the scale will be all over the place but if you are on plan your average weight will definitely be going down. So I have become tolerant of the fluctuations.

    Weight fluctuations of these small amounts drive me crazy. That is why I refuse to watch the scale. I will just go by how my clothes fit.

    Plus or minus 4 pounds is considered normal weight fluctuation as fluid moves inside and outside of cells. You might have gotten into some salt or something.
