Just Checking In to Say Hi

Friday, September 07, 2012

I really haven't had much to say lately; plus, spending less time on SP. But thought I'd check in to say hello.

Things going fine. Still haven't bonded with Vitamix. I use it daily, but no huge gushing over it.

On plateau. So what else is new? (smiling)

Overdid the Endless Shrimp promotion at Red Lobster last weekend. And no remorse. Seafood is a HUGE love of mine.

Wishing all a fun weekend.

Hubby and I ate at Red Lobster yesterday for the first time in ages. I like Red Lobster, just don't have one close by. I was starving when I walked in and overdid it on the bread!

No Hunger, Juicing, Vitamix Update, Habit Eating

Sunday, September 02, 2012

I'll probably go into these topics in coming blogs as they deserve more attention than a brief overview.

I noticed, during these past two weeks of juicing, that I have no hunger. I mean, none. My body must be pretty nutritionally-balanced for that to happen! The more I juice, the more I want to juice. Last week, I longed for a "real" meal, which I had. But after I ate, I realized that I now prefer to juice. Perhaps that's only going to be during this honeymoon phase, but maybe not. Dr. Fuhrman, in his book "Eat to Live," says that true hunger occurs in the throat and that the reason most people don't know that is because of unhealthy eating that causes pangs for the bad stuff.

Okay, Vitamix. I'm having fun and using it a couple times a day. I don't care if I juice or blend, as long as I'm getting the veggies and fruit drinks I want/need and I'm experimenting. I'll also be able to make soups with this machine. I'm still bonding with it - it wasn't love at first use. I'm not a cooking mavin; quite the opposite. I've always avoided all things kitchen. (smiling)

During these weeks when I haven't been hungry, I had a startling revelation. I knew that I did a lot of habit eating, but I was shocked to realize that about 75 percent of my eating has been habit. A true grazer. When I feel the need to chew, I make sure I have lots of veggies available to chomp on.

Wishing all a fun holiday weekend.

I have a Vitamix as well, use it almost daily ... sometimes more. Make peanut butter, grind berries into flour .... pumpkin soup w/ tofu and organic carrots .... so there is almost a real meal there ....... A red flag seems to go up within though as a couple of yrs. back, I did the juice thing too........ and cutting way back on carbs, etc. and wound up with ULCERS and surgery! I had pain that was out of this world in my belly so I really caution you ........... We do need our daily calories ...... and we still need our protein, grains, carbs, starches, and veg's or fruits as wonderful as they are simply are not ALL things ....... It is the balance that causes 'homeostasis' in our bodies ...... (the healthy balance) ..... I now am menu planning my meals from my SP cookbook ...... and I am feeling satisfied ...... Best to you .........

Happy September & Goal

Saturday, September 01, 2012

OMG, already September! And I'm going to try and try again - to get off caffeine once and for all. Yes, I've tried this before and succeeded for awhile. But I want it done permanently.

Even though I don't drink a lot of coffee, I have weeks worth of various head and body aches while detoxing. So I'm not looking forward to that.

Wishing all a productive new month.

(p.s. first Vitamix was orange sorbet. It turned out pretty good.)

Getting off the caffeine may not be as bad since you don't consume much. Besides the vitamix should help you whip up something to make you feel better and energize you.
Enjoy your September.

Thank you for your encouragement! Kudos to you for your no caffeine goal! You can do it! The long term benefits far outweigh the temporary albeit sever discomfort. I have attempted and succeeded, but allowed stress to push me back to my old habits. I am back to boku coffee and buckets of mountain dew! It is far better to get energy from good health than shocking adrenals with caffeine. emoticon emoticon

Vitamix Goals

Friday, August 31, 2012

I want to outline my goals as a reminder of what I want to achieve with this new Vitamix:

- No wasted pulp, as I had with juicing
- Make my vegetables and fruit stash go further (it takes soooo much to make juice!)
- Experiment with new recipes
- Lose the next 10 lbs, which may be the last, depending upon how I feel at that wgt

I love them both. In fact I will juice greens and pulp apples, oranges, and carrots in the vita mis and then add my juice to the pulp with a little sparkling water. It is absolutely yummy. Both are very healthy. The vitamix gives you the fiber. The juicing gives you that huge boost of vitamins very quickly. Even though you lose the fiber, the vitamin boost can really help your immune system quite quickly.

The Monster Has Arrived

Friday, August 31, 2012

Yes, the Vitamix is here. I unboxed it yesterday afternoon, registered it online (guaranteed for 7 years!), and watched the DVD. Also thumbed through the nice cookbook that gives a ton of great ideas on all types of recipes. I do intend to use it, among other ways, as a juicer and excited that I will no longer have wasted pulp.

It's a huge piece of equipment, and built like a tank. I'm a bit intimidated and may just walk around it today, getting used to it. Or not. I'm thinking of an orange drink a bit later. Smoothie or sorbet. We'll see.

Wishing all a fun holiday weekend.

I too was intimidated at first. The power, the noise. Haha. But now I get comfort from the power. I know the stuff in it is going down. Here's a hint: at first I had a tendency to not let it run long enough-because of the massive power, but if they say run it 1 minute, do that. Have fun.

My point is that you're not juicing if you're not extracting juice - not that that's a bad thing! It's just different. Blending isn't the same ad juicing, no matter how powerful the blender.

But it's good! I did CCK's green lemonade this morning (apples, celery, kale & lemon juice with a few drops of stevia . . . awesome!).

Mine is definitely out of warranty & I'll be lost if it breaks.
