VITAMIX DUE TO ARRIVE TODAY!

Thursday, August 30, 2012

I'm very excited, as I've never researched a product with so many happy users. I can't wait to make juices and smoothies without wasting so much pulp. As I've continued juicing, I realize that I really want to use the entire fruit and veggie.

No other weight loss to report at the moment. But doing well with juicing. People are saying that my skin has a "glow" since I've been juicing. Plus, no sugar helps too.

Wishing all a fun Labor Day weekend.

It is a great device! There are a lot of youtube videos to get ideas on recipes and uses and I Vitamix also has a good recipe site. The difference between the Vitamix and and "regular" blender is night and day in terms of power. I can't wait to get mine back when we go down to Tennessee over Thanksgiving.

Trying Almond Milk for the First Time

Saturday, August 25, 2012

Yesterday's trip to the grocery store made me almost laugh out loud as I looked in my cart and saw, once again, only healthy stuff. Honestly, can't get over myself and this new wave of doing so well. Decided to try Almond milk, and not sure why. (smiling) Here goes!

Vitamix arrives in the next few days. I'm soooo excited.

Have a fun weekend, sparkfriends.

I love almond milk especially now that I found one that tastes just like reg milk in my cereal but I worry if the fat content in almond milk is true since there is 15g of fat in 1oz of raw almonds but only 2.5g of fat in 1 cup of Almond Milk???? Can any one answer this? Also how can the calories for 1oz of raw almonds be 160 and only 60 calories for 1 cup of almond milk? emoticon

I love almond milk. I use it to bake with too. Never drink it by the glass, but my friend does. If you get unsweetened, it's only 35 to 40 cals a cup, depending on which brand. You are doing soooo good with getting healthy. A shining example of how we can changed.

I like almond milk, but only the sweetened vanilla. I used it once to make a "lighter" White Russian once. Was so so tasty! I like it better than soy milk or rice milk, though.

Awesome grocery cart! I'm not sure if I've ever tried almond milk. I'll be interested in seeing what you think.

A fun thing to do with the Vitamix is take frozen fruit, and just enough juice to cover the blades to start. Blend using the plunger to mash the fruit into the blades...it makes something the consistency of soft-serve ice cream...but very healthy. I do it with frozen ripe bananas (no juice). That comes out a consistency almost like real ice cream. My husband and I both love it.

We make lots of smoothies....it's fun to experiment. The video that comes with the blender is very helpful to learn how to operate it if you've never seen a full demonstration.

I also really like it for blending peanutbutter that has separated. After I blend it and put it in the fridge...it doesn't separate again. Since I can't get all the peanut butter out of the blender when I'm done, I usually throw in a frozen banana or make a smoothie afterward....it helps get the peanut butter out of the blender (and into my tummy)!

My chiropractor recommended that I try going dairy free and gluten free for 2 weeks. He suggested Almond Milk instead of regular milk since I like eating cereal for breakfast. I've been using it the past several days and have enjoyed it. I'm not one to drink a glass of milk so I can't compare the actual "taste" of it but it's a good substitute.

Awesome job on the healthy grocery carts! You're doing great!!

Love almond milk. Here's a great smoothie recipe.

Pomegranate Pow
1 cup Almond milk
1/2 cup pomegranate juice
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 ripe banana

Blend. Serves 2. cals per 8 oz glass 116. trace fat, 1 gram protein, 30 grams carbs,3 grams dietary fiber, 0 chol, 9 grams sodium.

I got this from a POM board (I think).

6 lbs in 6 Days From Juicing

Friday, August 24, 2012

Who woulda thunk? When I started juicing last Sunday, I was going to try it for a day or two. Now I'm on Day 6 and I'm down 6 lbs. It's been byebye time to a pound a day with juicing, and wow, what can I say? I'm pretty surprised.

I grocery shop this morning and am thinking that I'll continue a little longer with juicing. I DID reorder the Vitamix. I'd placed the order, cancelled it, then last night I decided it's really what I want so I took the plunge. Really had gotten cold feet over the steep price tag, but it's an investment in ME. Plus, I know I'll get good use from it.

This weekend is the REO Speedwagon concert. Really looking forward to it. Have a happy day.

Juicing DOES work! I stopped doing it for a while but hit a plateau and continued it this past Wednesday (lost 3lbs). I use it as a way to shock my body when my calorie counting/exercise just isn't doing it anymore. Juicing isn't a permanent solution, but it certainly is a tool to help! To me as long as you're safe about it, go ahead and do it!

Congrats!

You WILL get excellent use of the VitaMix. It's a true joy to use and will last forever. I've read that they really stand behind their product too.

I'm very impressed with the 6 pounds in 6 days. How are you feeling?

Wow have you had an adventure in juicing. I have the Blendtec mixer and should use it more, but lately have been frequenting the Farmer's Markets and enjoying whole fresh fruits and veggies.
You will enjoy it. Just be aware the smoothies with blueberries tend to gel if not consumed immediately. :)

13 TO GO-COUNTDOWN IS ON

Thursday, August 23, 2012

Woohoo. !3 more will wrap this trip up.

To all my buddies who told me about VitaMix - THANKS A MIL! I just ordered it after a lot of research. Veryyyyyyyy excited. This is a huge chunk of change for me right now, but it's an investment in my good health.

Have a happy day.

p.s. I just cancelled my order. I'm going to stick with juicer for now. It's just not a convenient time/price at the moment and I had pangs of conscience about it.

I waited several years before I finally broke down and bought one a couple years ago. They are VERY expensive, but I now that I have it, I don't regret spending the money on it. You will know when the timing is right for you.

We accidentally left ours down in Tennessee when we came back up to Illinois and are kicking ourselves for forgetting it. We probably won't be back down there until Thanksgiving, but it will be coming back with us for sure!

One reason I keep holding off on getting a juicer is that I think the VitaMix serves a very similar function. Now that we are planning a long-distance bike tour, I can't see buying anymore "kitchen stuff" for a while....too focused on "bike stuff" these days!
