JUICER ARRIVES TODAY

Wednesday, August 08, 2012

I tried juicing about a year ago and didn't like it. Had a defective unit and returned it. However, I'm giving it more of a fair chance this time. Reading which combos taste good and why. Bought one with good reviews on Amazon, but not pricey so that it's a good starter juicer. Looking forward to experimenting.

Have a wonderful day, sparkfriends.

I got a juicer and broke it, too! the company said they would replace it but I had to cut off the cord and send the cut cord back. I forgot to put in the metal basket and tried to juice on the plastic blades meant to turn the metal basket. emoticon

I think I prefer to have the pulp included but often I like juice.

Enjoy! And get healthy! Chris emoticon

I'm looking forward to hearing how this goes for you....have been intrigued at times but thought it would be another thing that sits in or on the cupboard unused...but if you like this.....

I LOVE my juicer...although many times I just throw stuff in the blender so that I can get all the pulp. I think the pulp adds the fiber and keeps you full longer. Sometimes I'll even throw in a scoop of whey protein. My body type just seems to NEED protein. Have you ever read anything on blood type diets. Mine is what they consider the 'old' blood line and therefore needs more of the primal diet lifestyle. When I have too many carbs I just turn into an 'eating machine' emoticonNot good...NOT good at all. As long as I have a little clean protein with every meal I'm all good. emoticon

Here's one of the BEST juice combos you can ever use...they say it's like getting a blood transfusion...it's supposed to be THAT good. "THEY" being nutritionists. emoticon

Green Lemonade:

1 head romaine lettuce or celery
5-6 stalks kale
1-2 apples (organic fuji)
1 whole organic lemon (no need to peel.but scrub skin well)
1-2" fresh ginger root

Can use any greens~celery-chard-collards-spinac
h-cucumbers etc.

Start with 12 oz up to 24 oz up to 40 oz. Take 30" before or after food.

This will add some 'kick' to your step...I guarantee it! emoticon and you'll lose some inches and weight in the process...winning combo eh? emoticon emoticon

It's a little tart..you can add a little stevia to it for sweetness, or add another apple.

Hope you likey! emoticon

oh...and also some great juicing recipes on Dr Oz's website. emoticon

I hope you find combos you like. I got really brave today and made a smoothie with banana, peanut butter, coconut water kale and nutmeg. I know, I know, sounds like a Barf-o-rama but it's actually very good. Now I'm inspired to try more bravery. I hope you have a chance to tell us what you come up with.

MY 800 CALORIE WATERMELON BREAKFAST

Tuesday, August 07, 2012

In the not-so-distant past, it was common for me to eat a watermelon a day. During several consecutive days. (not bragging, just saying) For those who haven't heard this song (sparkers who've known me for awhile have heard this tune myriad times), during most of my life I was able to eat anything in any quantity with no problem.

Well, some of those habits die hard even though I've come a long way in learning to do portion control. I jokingly say that I am addicted to berries (all types) and watermelon. Not so much this summer because I've seldom found tasty ones in recent years.

But last week, I got one at Trader Joe's and decided that I was going to be moderate. Which, in my life, means that I would only eat half a day instead of the whole thing. I did, no problem. Until I looked up the calories for this breakfast daliance. OH MY - 800 calories!!!!

Good thing I've been exercising my heart out. Yikes! But honestly, this is my only watermelon this summer, so I'm not too concerned. Next time, I am going to do what normal people do and slice it up. (smiling)

Wishing all a wonderful day.

Hooray for Curiosity on Mars!

Monday, August 06, 2012

Last night, I watched NASA TV and waited the last 11 minutes with the roomful of JPL people who were barely able to contain their excitement. The 7 Minutes of Terror, as the capsule went through the Mars atmsphere toward touchdown, were indeed harrowing.

But...PERFECT LANDING and then the first image of Mars appeared. It was totally awesome to think it arrived safely after its 8 months after launching. I was as thrilled as when we put the flag on the moon.

Have a happy day.

Even Wgt Bias For Cremation Services

Friday, August 03, 2012

I know this isn't a pleasant topic, but I have to be realistic and plan for final arrangements for myself. After the deaths of so many loved ones in the past few years, I've decided to be proactive so that all details are taken care of and no one has to worry about me.

Sooooo, upon researching cremation services, I find that many places charge extra for those weighing 250 lbs or over. Not that I'm anywhere near that number, but it just seems strange that even in this realm there is a weight bias. Same thing with haircutters who charge extra to cut long hair. Really? While you're cutting, you're cutting. Why charge more due to length?

Just wondering. I've also been pondering whether or not to donate my entire body to science. There are many places that do this.

Okay, enough of this topic. No, I'm not planning to end my life or anything like that, so don't jump to any of those types of conclusions. Again, just planning so that those left behind won't be inconvenienced.

Wishing all a fun weekend.

Always good to plan ahead. I want to be cremated, have my ashes put in my favorite decorative tin (Pirates of the Caribbean) and have my best friend take my ashes on a week long tour of Hawaii ending with her tossing my tin into one of the active volcanoes. Not sure if that can be arranged, but what a way to go and my friend could then tell everyone she threw a virgin into a volcano! Ha! How many people can claim that?!

Oh YOU are the smart one my dear friend! We have no family so this is something we probably should consider. My sweet momma was cremated along with our beautiful Josh. If I weren't in such shock over his tragic and unexpectedly YOUNG passing I probably should have donated his brain to science. Josh was SO very brilliant (like my momma who ultimately died of ALZ...not because her body broke down..took NO meds at 89). I've always wondered if the so called brilliant brain burns out quicker...lots of people I know who developed ALZ were pretty smart people. And from Josh's standpoint it would be good to know how brains adle the brain's wiring and cause our young adults to be so carelessly with their attraction to pushing the envelope. I know ..or I should say..I think I know that Josh never intended his demise on that fateful day...he just thought he was filming and documenting a film about drugs and fun, fun, fun. I'm glad (gasp) that the film ran out before Josh ultimately did...my big wish is to get this film into the schools so that kids can see...drugs are NOT a fun little escape...drugs KILL...and take the family and friends down in the process! emoticon

Jesse, the title of this drew me in...first, we just have gone through this with FIL's passing and the fact that pre arrangements were made is the greatest gift that could be given to the survivors....but then, my MIL passed from ALS and we held her cremains so that FIL could be mixed in and they could be in eternal rest together...his choice especially...One thing that we discovered, is that since they were both of relatively small stature, their cremains would both fit together in the urn which they told us would normally only be big enough for one....I know this seems like a weird topic but it is just one of those factoids of life (and death) that we normally would not be aware of. Anyway, I think we are lucky to be able to talk about these things sometimes since it takes some of the mystery out of it.

I just had to take care of a friend who had no family and I was not sure of his wishes. It is much easier to prepare ahead of time. I agree about the long hair - mine is almost to my waist. My haircuts are only a trim of the bottom. An easier cut then a short one that you have to style

I will add the sticker to my ID and plan to save extra pennies to clear out my life footprint for everyone’s better comfort I leave behind. My pennies will be saved to calculate any extra unneeded me. Like a good taxi fare to heaven, I will prorate the muscle and bones for the honor of the ride and add more pennies for my extra inches.

Well, you are smart to have your wishes all prepared so that your loved ones don't have to agonize over it.

When my Mom passed away, there was so much strife between my brother and the funeral home about her weight and being cremated that he demanded that all of us know that he wanted a paupers burial! And that is exactly what we did. Joe didn't want anyone to have to scrape together money to bury him or be upset trying to find a place to put him either.

As for me, I could care less, I won't be there, I'll be in heaven if I work hard now!!!

I think they charge more for longer hair because it takes more time to cut.
Apparently the same goes for cremation according to JOHNMARTINMILES.
I do have the organ/body donor box checked on my license so I guess my heirs will see what's leftover after I've gone...does remind me I should get a will together soon.

I spoke with a funeral director about the time to cremate had he told me it worked out basically to so many minutes a pound (just like cooking a turkey). Therefore, a heavier person would require longer time to cremate and therefore would require additional fuel. In the future we might even see per pound prices for cremation.

Make it a great day!
