Running Shoe Dilemma-CONCLUSION

Friday, July 20, 2012

So, the shoes arrived yesterday. This is the last time I buy through the mail. There is a defect (loop for lace is broken), and they don't fit too great. This place is local (and sells nationally), so I am going there this morning for a refund. Cancelled the order on the second style just in time as it was literally ready to be shipped.

After the refunds are processed I'll go to a specialty store and get fitted. That's the logical answer.

Thanks again to all for your advice.

Also, awoke to the news of the massacre in CO this morning. Very very sad.

I need to try shoes on as well. I've had problems with my feet all my life. I plan to make an appointment at a running store soon to be analyzed. Hoping to get some good shoes that will help me with my plantar fasciitis.

Buying online or mail order is dicey at times... but I have had good luck when purchasing something I am already familiar with. A style that fit my son well was discontinued, thankfully he was able to get extra pairs online before they totally disappeared. Hope your fitting goes well. Let us know how it turns out with your shoes.

The news about the massacre is horrifying.

Glad you will get the right shoes...I know..I'm horrified about the massacre! Our Josh used to go to the midnight showings of movies ALL the time. How sad that we aren't even safe going to see a new movie...I can't imagine WHAT would have possessed this kid to do this...or for that matter any other horrific act such as this conducted by any other kid. This world is so dysfunctional it's just very sad...I don't think all of the violence in the movies and on television is a good thing. Nor are the war games on the computers that kids spend hours and hours sitting just desensitizes our kids in such a negative way. I'm praying for the families...and actually I'm praying for the kid that conducted this horrific act as well...he must have serious issues to be so calloused. emoticon emoticon

Running Shoes Dilemma (contd.)

Thursday, July 19, 2012

Thanks to all who responded yesterday; I appreciate the good advice. Unfortunately, by the time I received it, I'd already found two pairs of different styles by the same brand at a great price.

I went ahead and ordered both. Expect that they won't fit, and will be easy to return and get a refund. At which time, I'll head to the sports store to get fitted.

One pair arrives today, so we'll see what happens. Wishing all a good day.

Running Shoe Dilemma - Aetrex?

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

Anyone out there wear Aetrex? I'm changing my brand of shoe since Avia discontinued the only style that fit me well. Athletic shoes are the only things I have trouble fitting that are comfortable for my normal-size/width feet, for some reason.

A friend bought Aetrex a few months ago and really likes them. Trouble is, they are expensive; at least, more than I've been spending. What to do?

If anyone wears them and can provide feedback, I'd appreciate it Have a wonderful day.

SPRING4FAL makes a good point about getting fit for the correct shoe for your feet. Once I got the right shoe.. it was so comfortable. I was fortunate that the best fitting pair was on sale. You can always find a better price after a fitting.

I have never hear of that brand so I'm no help. I buy reeboks and have to travel to outlet stores to get what I want, but now that is getting hard. I want cross trainers, but they stopped making them. I think we should start complaining to these foot wear people!

    Hi there,

I believe you live in SD like I do. I HIGHLY recommend Road Runner Sports in Kearny Mesa. They do a great job and if you haven't been fit for running shoes before I can't say enough about the experience. They do an evaluation of the way you walk/run on a treadmill and show you whether you pronate or supinate and they measure your feet for size and width. They know the shoes that have bigger toe boxes or those better suited to your type of activities. They will tell you if you need a stability, neutral or motion control shoe. Trust me, you have never had a shoe buying experience like it! Another great benefit is that you have 60 days to try out the shoes and if they don't work out, you can take them back at any point and exchange them for a different pair. The only slight downside is that you will pay a little bit more but it is WORTH it!! Trust me!

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

I also encourage you to get fitted to find out what type of athletic shoe would fit you best. I hear you on difficulty finding the right fit -- the width of the ball of my feet is wider than average but I have unusually narrow heels. Athletic shoes aren't too bad to shop for, but dress shoes are a nightmare...

Good luck on your search! And shop around for discounted prices. It's not uncommon to find good quality sneakers marked down to $40 or less.

If you're actually going to be running, you should get fitted.
I've never heard of that brand, so I can't help.

I second going to the running store! Make sure you get someone knowledgeable who didn't just read the info sheet. If you find a shoe that you like, I suggest writing down the name and searching online for a better price.

Do you have access to a running store where you could try them out? I've found that just because a shoe works great for someone else does not mean it will work for me. Most running stores seem to be more than willing to go that extra mile to get us a good fit.

Harry's Healed Eyeball

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

Today I went to the Target pharmacy to pick up Harry's eyedrops. Remember I told you about this new vet being less expensive? My old vet charged me $30 for these eyedrops. At Target, with this new vet's perscription? $4!!!!!!

He's 98 percent healed and feeling great. I'm elated that I've found such a great pet doc.

Wishing all a happy day.

Great news all around. If more folks were like Harry's Vet there would be less suffering in the world.

Fantastic news on Harry's healing and the impressive prescription savings! This has inspired me to look into better savings for my dog's meds. One of my dogs gets a lot of build up in his ears and needs cleaning. The vet at Banfield (love/hate relationship with that place) charged $20 for the latest ear cleaning solution. Considering it's supposed to be applied liberally twice a week, it seems expensive for a relatively simple cleaning product...

Thanks again for reading and commenting on my blog! I greatly appreciate the moral support :D

Ugh! I hate it when that happens. But hopefully it was still cathartic to write what you were feeling at the time. That is at least one of my biggest motivation for blogging on sparkpeople -- it feels so good to have a place to vent, rejoice, hope, etc.

Enjoy the day :)

I think they're having issues. I gave up trying to upload pics after about 30 minutes of failure. Hopefully tomorrow will be better!

Oh, and I don't usually read the news so I didn't see about the accident. I'll have to check it out now. So sad - so scared that she ended up committing suicide - although I'm sure that wasn't the intention. Her poor family!
