THE AMAZING SUPER MOON LAST NIGHT

Sunday, May 06, 2012

I went outside with my high-powered binoculars and could see the formations on the moon quite clearly. It was a beautiful sight.

Doing well on my streaks, and not going to drive myself nuts with weekly weigh-in anticipation. It is what it is - sloooooow progress.

Have a happy day.

Slow progress is usually lasting progress. Sometimes we cannot even see the progress being made... but it is slowly but surely. Your efforts are making a difference!

Adding Probiotics To My Life

Saturday, May 05, 2012

Why? I really don't know. Having no issues with digestion, I thought that maybe it would help with overall health. I ordered some that will be arriving next week. Going to also sprinkle some on my cats' food as they have digestion problems and this may help.

Have a fun weekend.

I've always wanted to try probiotics, the good stuff is REALLY expensive. It will be interesting to hear what you think of it.

All the animals here get probiotics . . . I am on again, off again with them. I don't normally have digestion issues, but they're supposed to help your immune system, too.

Probiotics will just keep up the good gut health you already have. I've been drinking LIfeway Kefir daily for a long time now. I can tell it helps me.

I have tried some, unfortunately not regularly. I have started having yogurt four or five days a week and have generally felt better than I have in quite a while. emoticon

"People Will Not Change...

Friday, May 04, 2012

...until it's too painful not to." This was said by one of the MD's on a panel of experts in a documentary I recently watched, "Preventing and Reversing Diabetes." A friend was just told he was prediabetic and I watched this film to get some info for him.

One of the female doctors was discussing those who've found themselves to be diabetic or pre; she said it's very hard for people to change their eating habits. And that people will not change any behavior until it is too painful not to do so. That really hit home.

Have a happy day, sparkfriends!

We all know that it is very hard for people to change their eating habits or there would not be a SparkPeople.

It it sad that all folks get lumped into one group. Stereotyping, labeling annoy me. The only truth that I have found is that folks have to want to change. I think for many it is the fear of change, the unknown and the lack of guidance.

Sometimes we have to get so sick that we want to change but others don't care if they get sick, they just want to enjoy it while they can.

Reminds me of another quote I've seen:

Anaïs Nin: “And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom”

I don't know that the statement is absolutely true, though. Many of us make changes regularly without having pain as the driving force.

HOWEVER, we make those changes of our own determinism, while being diagnosed as diabetic or pre-diabetic is an outside determinism trying to tell us we have to change. I think in that lies the key for when pain becomes the driving factor behind change.

I think that's true. Also, people would rather take a pill like Actos or Januvia for their diabetes rather than change their eating and exercise habits. It's a bit sad, no?

To Cheese or Not to Cheese...

Thursday, May 03, 2012

...that is the question. I started what was to be my May goal in April - no cheese. Then I blogged that I'd decided to change it to less cheese. But when I went back to it, and it just didn't taste that good to me anymore. So here I am into day one of no cheese. That's my May goal.

Wishing all a good day.

It's amazing what surprises the mind has in store when we make a decision to stop a behavior, if only for a short while. emoticon

Except for my love of pizza, I could live without cheese. I don't know about all dairy, though-I love milk.

When I gave up all dairy back in February, my desire and love for cheese has been greatly diminished. I thought I would miss it more, but as you stated our tastes do change.
Keep Sparking.

WOOHOO! 3 MORE POUNDS BITE THE DUST!

Wednesday, May 02, 2012

Seems like all my hard work is starting to pay off - finally. After a forever plateau, I recently decided to get tough with myself and have been working very hard at mega-exercise and amazingly good eating. Today's weigh-in gave me good feedback - another 3 lbs down. I'm pretty thrilled. It's coming off very slowly, but at least coming off! Hooray hooray.

Wishing all a wonderful day.
