February Goals Update. March Goals.

Thursday, February 23, 2012

It's unreal how fast February is going. I have absolutely no cravings for caffeine or sugar, two of my past two months' goals. This time around, I don't feel as though I'm depriving myself at all. I just satiated on both prior to giving them up, and feel soooooo much better now that they are not on my mind . (or in my body)

I've already started my March goal and into day 2 of no night eating. It's a lifelong habit and I've tried every suggestion possible before. Now it's a matter of discipline in not having snacks late at night.

Wishing all a wonderful day.

Excellent progress. I am so glad to hear that you are feeling better. Is your plan to move toward being vegan?

How her amazing voice and songs impacted decades of my life is difficult to articulate. I miss her already.

And, I will always love you. R.I.P. dear Whitney.

Yes, Whitney, rest in peace. I so agree, money does not buy happiness nor the ability to see that we are a valued and loved person, here for a special reason.

The Upside of Getting a Bad Cold

Saturday, February 11, 2012

I've been fortunate in not having been sick for a long time. But these past few weeks, with news about my dying mother and other assorted stressors, my system has been worn down. Not to mention that so many are walking around in public blowing their cooties all over the place.

Have caught a humdinger of a cold that I'm trying to prevent moving down into my lungs and causing bigger trouble.

The benefit of all this? Well, so busy with stuffy nose and cough that I don't feel my stomach pangs. Have to remember to eat, and when I do, I am definitely making much better choices. So, hey, not great to feel lousy, but I'll see if I can use this time to turn some of my daily habits back to better intake.

Wishing all a fun weekend.

Isn't it amazing how we notice these thingas when we are not well. Take gentle care of yourself J.

PLUS- you're giving your body a much needed rest period
(you are, aren't you?).
Your body will thank you and your cold will be over quicker.

Had a Peaceful Birthday Filled w/Loving Memories

Thursday, February 09, 2012

Thanks to all for the goodies and birthday wishes. Yesterday was a peaceful birthday and I did manage to do several things despite fighting this awful cold. Unfortunately, I did a long walk and managed to get more tired than I should have. Thanks to all for the tips on my blog about how you fight a cold.

There's been a night bird singing his heart out for about a week now. He's several houses away, so not very loud, but so beautiful to hear. And he's at it all night long. Sing, sing, sing. I wonder if he has emotions to go along with it. Or if it feels good to sing. I researched night birds and it said this is a mockingbird bachelor. There's something about hearing him at night that makes me smile and go to bed with a song in my heart. And, if I awaken during the night to get water or whatever, he's still at it!

I'm done with the detox caffeine headaches, so now it's just a matter of staying away from coffee. Hooray hooray. I plan to conquer it this year.

Wishing all a good day.

Ooops! I missed your birthday...well, always a day late and a dollar short, Happy Birthday yesterday, today and a lot of tomorrows!

I love your comment on the night bird singing. Such a contrast with our climates. If any of our birds were to stay up all night singing, they would be sicker than you with sore throat etc! LOL If your night bird is a bachelor mockingbird I guess he's trying to change his marital status with all that singing...hope for your sake he doesn't find a mate too soon, it sounds so lovely.

Glad to hear you had a good birthday.

Have you tried ginger tea for your cold?

The recipe is :
Wash and put a few slices of fresh ginger root into a blender along with the rind of a washed organic lemon.
Then heat the mix on the range... once boiling , let steep until its at a drinkable temp and strain.
Add honey to taste, also a the juice of lemon.

Its amazing how helpful this is.
Be well...

: )

This knocks a cold out of me fast: Every a.m. until the cold is completely gone, take 50 mg Zinc (boosts your immune system) and 1000 mg time-released vitamin LOTS of water and green tea w/honey. emoticon

If I have a sore throat, I gargle with salt water and drink 16 oz. hot water w/2 Tbs. fresh lemon juice.

Plus plenty of sleep. emoticon

Hope it does the trick.

I caught a cold in December before the holidays when I couldn't afford to be sick. Here's what I did and within a week it was totally gone:
-stayed home from work first 2 days and really rested
-got a good nights sleep every night (again your body needs rest to fight the cold)
-drank more liquids than I've ever drank in my life (anything hot or cold and non-caffeine....herbal teas, fresh squeezed orange and grapefruit juice, water)
-borrowed my neighbor's humidifier...the kind that exudes cool mist...put 5-6 drops of 100% eucalytus oil in the water...and ran it all night while I was sleeping...amazing way to keep the mucous moist and flowing.
-postponed exercise (even yoga) until I was all better. no sense in taxing my body while it was trying to fight the cold

Feel better!!

No!!! You can't be sick on your birthday! emoticon My secret won't work for you, emoticon I drink Matcha Green Tea. One cup has more antioxidants than 10 cups of regular green tea, but you're caffeine free.
