Okay, It's Here. Now What?

Sunday, January 01, 2012

I'm not concerned about the goals I met last year, or resolutions for this year.

I'm more concerned about laughter and peacefulness. Leaving myself alone instead of being so centered on self and weight loss and all that goes along with this constant monitoring of food intake, exercise, etc.

In fact, I'm just happy for being. Just being. Nothing lofty or fancy.

That's enough for now. Peace, quiet, and somewhere down the road, who knows?

Excellent choices, my friend. I've found that the constant nattering away at myself to limit this and lift that haven't done a darned bit of good - all I've managed to do is to generate more stress and self-doubt.

Wishing you peace and happiness in the New Year.

Here Comes 2012! Wishing All Sparkers Good Things In the New Year.

Saturday, December 31, 2011

The third week of January will mark my three years on this SP site. I've known some of my sparkfriends almost the entire time. While many have dropped off the grid, others have remained and continue to motivate and inspire by their examples.

Wishing everyone loads of happiness in 2012.

Gratitude For the Bad Things As Well As Good

Friday, December 30, 2011

It sounds so cliched, but that which didn't kill me this year, did indeed make me stronger. (Okay, universe, that's enough. I don't want/need to get any stronger!) (smiling)

I am thankful for many things; at the top of the list is good health. My sadness over the passing of so many loved ones is redirected to gratitude that I had so many lovely people in my life.

And, with whatever sanity I have left, I will go forward into this new year with the intention of using my personal gifts to best advantage in making my life better.

Wishing all a healthy, happy NEW YEAR.

    Hi Jesse;

Good and bad is in all our lives and we learn from each. Start the New Year on a high note and healthy life and you can go higher for that. Learn something new every day. God bless you always.

My kids never understood, when we went around the table at Thanksgiving saying what we were thankful for, when I said things like the bankruptcy, the gentle passing of Aunt Mimi or whatever. But you learn from the bad things what you never, ever could have learned from the good.

I forget who made the quip about troubles giving you more soul, and pointing out that he or she had just plenty of soul now, thank you Lord, but I feel the same way. Could we please just enjoy a simple year?

Whatever 2012 brings, though, we'll deal with in our own inimitable way, and learn what lessons there are to be gained, and be grateful for them (unless the Mayans are right, in which case I suppose it's all moot anyway... :) )

Where Did 2011 Go?

Thursday, December 29, 2011

I've never been into the time thing - beginnings and endings. I have a timelessness inside my head and totally agree with Einstein's theory about time.

However, we live in a world of calendars, clocks, and assorted devices that constantly remind us of time tick tick ticking away. Seems like this year just arrived - and is now leaving - without a trace.

What it brought me was more losses - the death of a very dear friend. And the departure of another. This brings the number up to 12 in the past four years. Not that I'm counting.

It's time that I get back to taking better care of myself as I've been so immersed in the emotions associated with loss.

Here's to a wonderful 2012 for us all.

Cough Medicine By Perscription Only - Another Wonderful California Law

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

I just heard on the radio that over-the-counter cough meds will no longer be sold in CA w/o a perscription as of 1/1/12. This is supposedly due to the escalated abuse by kids taking it to get high - or whatever effects you get with it. Now, cynic that I am, I also think it's just one more way for the drug companies to make addl. profit.

Another CA law regulating the use of just about everything. For many reasons, I've been shopping around for a new state to live in. Where to go? That's the dilemma.

My vote for great states is Tennessee!! That's where hubby and I bought a home to retire to. The cost of living is super low in Tennessee compared to California. Nothing beats San Diego weather, but Tennessee has mild winters compared to most of the country. Our next door neighbors (in Tennessee) moved from California to retire. I think it's a hidden gem that people are discovering. Our home is in sort of a retirement town in the mountains (Crossville, TN) and run into transplants from all over the country here. Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville and Chattanooga are all great larger towns/cities too!

This scared the heck out of me because I don't have insurance. So, I looked up news articles about it.

***the DXM cough syrup is at the pharmacy counter, but you don't need a prescription, just proo that you're 18 or older. It's to stop abuse by teens of the cough syrup's main drug. ***

Phew!
And, I love California, but best of luck on your search.

California is so weird. You can buy marijuana, but not cough drops.

Sorry I can't recommend New York. I'd love to have you nearby, but we have little goodies like every county having its own tax system (so you have to go across the county line to buy shoes) and the most bizarre DMV I've ever encountered.

That is so messed up, but then again you have to think for people who don't think for themselves and then they have to make laws to accommodate the goofballs!
I suppose this might be a countrywide law in time...then there's nowhere to go!!LOL!

Well I always thought California was the perfect state too...although running a close tie with Virginia (mountains, beaches, forrests, southern charm...doesn't get any better than that!). I have a feeling that this trend will be moving eastward, and eventually we're all going to have to take off work and go to the doctor when we need cough medicine, anyway. Crazy...and all because of a few people who make bad choices. I agree that it's related to drug company profits, as well.

I agree- it is the drug companies trying to price gouge some more. Time to start using homopathic recipes- I hear thats the way to go!

Some stuff is just plain stupid. There are always a few to mess stuff up.

I'd opt for the shot of brandy with a teaspoon of honey solution from CATLADY52.
Let me know when you find the perfect state... I may join you.

It only applies to those who are under 18. Things are crazy but the folks who abuse the cough meds are making it bad for those who do not.

I agree with Mzzchief,I have heard and found from experience that most of these products are a waste of money and don't work. What does work? Hmm,I need to find out,I am miserable, this coughing, ugh. My mom when I was a child gave us a big tablespoon of gag, honey and that worked for a while.

Just another way to control what we take, they are going after the supplements and trying to get rid of them too. That is the FDA and with the help of congress and the house they are going to get rid of all supplements so that we will be always sick and having to go to the doctor because our food is so poor in nutrients to keep us healthy.

    hey girl!

Florida is my perfect state.
I get teased about it all the time.
But with white sandy beaches, great weather and a year round growing season... no state income tax, what's not to like? Okay.... so its not big on the Opera, Symphony and Museums, but that's something most people can overlook.

Anyways, cough medicine off the shelves is like Sudfed... o and get this GLYCERIN behind the register in Texas too! All to keep the crazies at bay.

Cough meds... not that big a deal as most of them don't work in the first place.
Recently I read that buckwheat honey works as good as cough meds (just make sure its the real deal and not fructose mixed with flavorants).

So mabbe keep some on hand the next time you have a cough. I got some for my dog, he gets a cough from time to time and it seems to help him. Possibly because of honey's antibacterial action, antioxidants, and how it coats and moisturizes the throat.

Have a fun day, you!

Go back to old remedies to soothe throats, Warm cider, honey and hot tea. My favorite, a shot of brandy with a teaspoon of honey. (The last one was my dad's concoction and I don't know for sure what stopped the tickle, the brandy or the honey.)

I don't think that moving for that reason is enough. Each state has peculiar laws that trip you up. And some of the retail chains can be just as quirky as the law.
