Thoughts Are Seeds We Plant...

Friday, December 09, 2011

...and if you plant crab apples, no need to expect to harvest Golden Delicious.

I read this in a book I'm reading last night and I really want to stop planting crab apples. This past four years' deaths/losses and assorted road bumps have unravelled me and I think I'm about done with the grief and ready to finally start putting back the pieces of my life.

Wishing all a good day.

That quote is so right about what we plant.
Dealing with losses is is a matter of perspective. When my mom's heart failed... my sis choose to focus on what she had lost.... I focused on the gifts my mom brought into my life. Yes I miss her, but she will always be with me as she is a part of me.
Thank you for sharing this quote... I need to be more mindful about what I am planting.

Yes, good words and thoughts are the only way to live this great life we have been given from above from the Father of lights by way of the cross of Jesus who loves us so much.

You are so valued and loved and appreciated as you live the life you have been given each new day.

Enjoy your weekend by enjoying who you are in Jesus.

Just When I Thought I was Going to Quit SP, Friends Pulled Me Through

Thursday, December 08, 2011

And they didn't even know they had done that. Honestly, I go through this periodically even though I enjoy and support SP in so many ways.

Sometimes I just want to quit and not be bothered due to many factors. But then a bunch of SPfriends - new and former - provide such valuable input and feedback that I'm glad I don't follow these impulsivities. These friends do not overtly say do this or that, but they are just there. Sharing their own slice of life, providing strength by sharing how they are doing things.

I'm not a joiner and always rebel against my own best good. Well, not always, but frequently. I hate to have to log in and do things every day. But it's also the very thing that has kept me on-track. If it ever comes down to having to take some time off, I'll do that rather than signing off for good.

Wishing all a wonderful evening.

Glad you are hanging around! I think of quitting too, but it's really worth it to hang in there.

BTW....I'm watching "Forks Over Knives" on Netflix as I'm Sparking right now. I'm sure you've seen it. I've been eating about 90% "Eat to Live"....still use olive oil, and eat free range, organic eggs. Also, have one cup of coffee in the morning.'s all Eat to Live!

I go through the same thing as you.

As a matter of fact I did quit once last August for three or four day and just had to come back.

Now, when i get to the point of wanting to quit I just quit doing anything on or with sparkpeople except for logging in.

I do log in every single day even if that is all I do and then slowly but surely I get back in the swing until the next break.

Yes, sparkpeople really is good for me and I am glad that we are all here and doing what we all do best which is caring for one another.

Have a great week slimmerjesse emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

HCG Banned - Yesterday's News

Wednesday, December 07, 2011

Heard a short segment yesterday that the FDA has banned the sale of HCG, which they have been threatening to do for a long time. I researched HCG about a year ago, when this forever plateau was getting the best of me, and realized that 500 calories a day was too dangerous. Not to mention some troubling info researched about HCG itself.

Nonetheless, what makes me smile about this is that the FDA okays all kinds of drugs that are dangerous, yet they single out others. Having read accounts by those who've worked inside the system, it's a political and corrupt infrastructure. But be that as it may, this leads me to wonder about the slippery slope that they've been threatening to ban vitamins and other supplements as well. Maybe they'll be next?

Wishing all a good day. (it's been cold here in SD!)

FINALLY! I learned about this diet in my nutrition classes and was just horrified. HORRIFIED. Of course you're going to lose weight only eating 500 calories. You'll be losing muscle, too, while you're at it. No need for the HCG part. I'm so glad they're banning that substance. As for vitamins and supplements: I wouldn't want them to ban, but currently there is no legal regulation of these things. If you're not doing research about the company you buy from and making sure they carry the USP (US Pharmacopoeia) and/or GMP (Good Manufacturing Process) seals, you really have no way to know what you're getting is what truly what it says on the label... and many supps/vits are manufactured outside of the country, where sanitation standards can be lax. Instead of banning them, the FDA should start regulating them and overseeing their production.

I have a friend currently on this diet. I thought it sounded a little bizarre when she told me about it, but I stupidly fell into the trap a lot of us do and thought if she's doing it under dr supervision it must be okay. I'm glad she's almost to the end of it though - mainly for her health. (Although I must admit, she looks fantastic right now.)

I'm actually becoming curious how much time you spend a day reading the news. You're always so "up" on the latest information. I think I need to be more like you!

(And it's freezing here too. I was really hoping for a couple day heat wave, but I think I'll just be turning up the electric gear for the Arlington trip tomorrow!)

Saw that the other day, too.
I've always wondered what criteria the FDA uses to ban certain stuff... which things get priority fast track treatment.

The funny thing about the HCG diet, is that ANYONE is going to loose weight on only 500 calories a day... HCG or not!

: )

I hadn't heard. I wouldn't take it for weight loss and I'm pretty sure the only reason people lose weight with it is the 500 calories/day.

The HCG diet does not seem like a good way of doing things to me either.
The standard way of losing weight is the way to go.

I talked to my friend who manufactures HCG today. I asked about HCG being banned. It was not banned. There are certain companies who are touting it as a weight loss miracle and the reason for losing weight. HCG is only a tool that aids in weight loss by suppressing the appetite. I know it has worked for me. So, the FDA sent out warning letters to these companies about their claims.
I know HCG is only a tool and I also am so aware that weight loss comes from calorie control. Like I said before, 500 calories si only for a short time. I am so glad I can still order it..

I remember when the FDA approved Ally.....regardless of their approval or not, there was no way I was going to take it. A woman I knew took it for a little while and it did horrible things to her digestive system.

Pretty kitty on your background!! :)

I am not surprised. I think the drug companies are just so corrupt. I hate how they influence the public with their ads on TV. They basically think you can take a pill for just about anything. I have learned the hard way that many of these prescription drugs have very bad side effects that are worst than the symptom you are trying to get rid of. I know there are some drugs that are necessary but it's scary how much control the drug companies have.

HCG is still available by prescription. The FDA had banned some of the sales of the homeopathic medicines off of store shelves. On hCG you are only on 500 cal for about 23 days. Homeopathic hCG is still available. I have been on the hCG diet and have never felt better. It is only used as a tool. It kind of reminds me of the body sculpting diet. There have been threats for a long time by the federal government to control all vitamins. The price of everything is going up that should not be a surprise. I feel the losing weight should be a personal thing and any diet should be used only as a tool. I do feel that proper nutrition should be the end result.

My Semi-Annual Huge Supplement Order Just Went In

Tuesday, December 06, 2011

I know there have been pros and cons about supplements, but I believe them to be a very helpful component to my well being. I haven't been sick in years - partly due to exercise, eating fairly well, taking supplements, and yes, pure luck.

I've dealt with this company for decades and they happen to also advertise on SP. Totally wonderful company - Puritans Pride. It's important to know where your stuff comes from for confidence in product purity.

I put in a big order twice a year and mine just went over the cybermiles yesterday. It was an investment, but nothing compared to what it costs to get sick.

Which brings me to the topic of food. When starting this healthier lifestyle adventure three years ago, it seemed that all the fruit and veggies added a significant amount to weekly food bills. But it is so worth it when compared to the cost of getting sick. I look back over these past three illness-free years with pride in the care I have taken of my body.

Wishing all a fun day.

  We are so worth it!

I do herbal infusions. Mainly stinging nettle leaf. Helps with my iron and calcium levels. I haven't been doing them lately though because after drinking it one day hubby told me I smelled like I had been smoking "something". The supplement really helped with energy and seemed to assist a bit with weight loss (or maybe just having more energy to do things helped - who knows). I'm just afraid of what would turn up on the drug test if that's how I smelled, so I'm really looking forward to getting that over with so I can go back on my herbals!

I so agree with you about how the cost of fruits and veggies are worth it. We get a lot of ours from Costco these days because they actually sell a lot of organic produce. I bet you can find great fruits and veggies in San Diego. I would love to live closer to where many of them are grown.

Gosh, I am about ready to do the same thing. I order mine from Swanson whom I have worked with as well for years. I too have to get a 6 month supply as we live in Mexico and the vitamins here are very costly. I ran out of fish oil the other day and we drove 45 minutes to a GNC here and the cost was like $40 for them. ouch.
I believe my vitamins also help keep me well.
Have a great day.

I take a few supplements. I rarely get sick, but I have days where I'm just feeling a little sick - like today - no big surprise because I know long runs can really suppress your immune system.

Freggies are totally worth it!

  :-) goofball! :-)

Yes, it's still riding weather, but didn't ride this past weekend. Saturday was the HOG Holiday Party. Sunday I just wasn't up to dealing with asking the Mr. to get the bike out for me. Will be riding next week though. Friday we will be doing part of the escort ride for Wreaths Across America, and Saturday we're going to Arlington to lay wreaths on the graves, then riding home. And if I'm up to it, I want to do a ride on Sunday too. We have the electric gear, so not much phases me. :-)
