Two Cross Goals Achieved In 2011

Friday, December 02, 2011

Despite this having been another tough year of many losses, including the most recent one of a dear friend of 11 years, I have attained two goals while continuing this healthy adventure.

One is no tv. I'm so much happier w/o it in my life. The other is a zero balance charge card and no - absolutely none- interest in shopping. I've now got a strong satisfaction with the things I have and have no desire to acquire new things.

Wishing all a great day.

WTG Achieving those goals have hopefully reduced much stress. Living within one's means is so gratifying. I noticed that with no tv (due to a power outage for a few days) I was more relaxed and less inclined to stress eat.

I know you will continue to have success in achieving the goals you set.

good for you with no credit card debt. we too live debt free and it is a good feeling.
But no TV....gosh that would be a hard one for me. Living in Mexico and being retired, I like watching Tv to feel connected.
But if it works for you...great.
Have a great day.

We've never carried a charge on our credit cards, but as you know, they sure do get a workout - even so, we live well below our means.

I did go shopping yesterday, and while I saw plenty of things I like, very little at my price pt so I bought nothing. But today I hit up the expo.

These are great choices, tho!

C'mon...Where Did This Year Disappear So Fast?

Thursday, December 01, 2011

I've said this at the beginning of each month, but I really really really can't believe we are into December already. Yikes! Where has this year gone?

Wishing all a great day.

Here Comes the Detox Illness (why do I put myself through this?)

Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Even though I don't drink a lot of coffee (a small mug a day and no other caffeinated beverages), I get flu-like symptoms (including awful headache) for a few weeks (yes, weeks!) when I detox from caffeine. I've tried different methods like weaning slowly, etc. Doesn't work.

And I figure while I'm going to feel awful, I might as well get rid of sugar. I don't know how to do "just a little" so I've gotta get rid of it. Yes, I've been through this before. Both sugar and caffeine affect me terribly, and I recently was off both for five months. Felt so much better.

Okay, here we go. This is day one and I feel like I should be on that Dr. Drew Rehab Show.

Wishing all a good day.

WTG on focusing on your needs. Misery does love company so combining makes sense to me, better to deal with it once instead of twice.

Take an Aleve first thing in the morning -- before you get the headache. I find that keeps me from suffering the headaches of caffeine withdrawal at all.

Be strong, you can do it! I broke the coffee and sugar thing years ago and I feel so much better for it......just remember how wonderful you are going to feel.
Best of everything to you.

Just think, everyday without either of these things is one day closer to the day the "icky" feeling will stop!

Overeating Isn't As Rewarding As it Used To Be

Monday, November 28, 2011

In January '12, it'll be three years on SP for me. This past October, I celebrated three years since starting my healthier lifestyle adventure. It was a few months after that when I discovered SP.

I've learned a lot and come a long way. However, some behaviors take longer than others to die hard.

I've blogged the following a million times - that I've always been able to "hold my food" (like the person said to be able to hold their liquor) w/o gaining. Somewhere in my psyche, that thinking still reappears.

I knew I was in trouble on and near Thxgiving when I responded to some SPfriends blogs that I intended to "enjoy myself" (read - pig out) and do so unabashedly.

Well, pig out I did. Part of me is so mad at this plateau that, no matter how well I eat or how much I exercise (a lot), there is no weight loss to be had. I rebel about that. Anothre part of me thinks I can still eat and not gain. (smiling) We know better, don't we?

Yes, I did major ingesting. Won't go into details, but I have to say that it is no longer as fun as it used to be. It was like I missed eating great, healthy food.

Then I met up with a friend who made the casual comment that I'm looking so slim lately. See, all that good eating and exercise DOES pay off, even if the scale shows that dratted plateau persisting.

I think I'm about done with all this rebelling stuff. As we know, it doesn't accomplish anything.

Wishing all a great day.

Same here -- pig out I did on Thanksgiving; BUT same here, I did NOT enjoy it like I used to; so there's been progress in my life!

I hear ya, albeit in a slightly different way. I've been eating way too much animal meat, and boy do I feel awful! Normally don't eat this much, but since its the holidays, its going to be there. I'm hoping it didn't do too much damage, either. Maybe this session of rebelling woke your body up to something and now you can go forward!

Everyone is entitled to an occasional rebellion. You're doing the best thing though - putting it behind you and moving on.

Way to go!

And I kept thinking about your comment on my blog . . . wondering what you chose to do . . . and knew I wasn't the least bit interested in pigging out. It just makes me feel ill. But I would have liked a full slice of all 3 desserts . . . heck, could've just eaten dessert!

Missing great, healthy food means the change has really been made. The plateau will be what it is but don't rely on the scale.

good review of your thoughts. I agree that over eating isn't as fun as it used to be...and just don't like the feeling afterwards. the good news is that sparks really helps me get back on track.
I love sparks
Have a terrific week.

Wishing all A Wonderful Gobble Gobble

Thursday, November 24, 2011

Yes, folks, my wish for you is a Happy Thanksgiving.

And although I've learned a lot about healthy choices here at SP, I am unabashedly looking forward to enjoying yummy stuff today. That's just the way it is.

Have a fun holiday. Thanks to all who've been so helpful in my SP journey.
