Within an Hour of Waking Up (reminder to myself)

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

I recently read that it's important to drink water soon after awakening, as some of our body's moisture evaporates during the night. Also read that it's important to eat breakfast within an hour of waking up due to our metabolism starting to slow after that. The food fuel sets the course for a heathy day.

Wishing all a fun day.

Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to eat anything for an hour after taking my morning meds. *sigh* I don't usually get breakfast till 9:00 - 2 1/2 hours after getting up. (3 1/2 after waking up.) Guess I need to start rethinking the morning routine again....

A short, but very important, blog. I haven't really thought about the value of drinking water first thing in the morning, but it makes sense!

I always do both as well. First thing I do is have a glass of water - even in the winter - then about 45 minutes later I have my breakfast followed by a cup of green tea.

Wearing Out Lots of Walking Shoes. How Long Do Yours Last?

Monday, July 11, 2011

Just thought about all of the running/walking shoes I wear out, and wondered how it is for others.

I'm a walker, not a runner. But I buy running shoes and there is only one brand and style that fits like a glove.

I go through a pair every 3 months. What about you?

Wishing all a wonderful day.

I replace mine every 6 months. I read you shouldn't wear them longer than that. I also suspect you get a lot more exercise than I do, but when I'm being good about exercising I do notice that by 6 mos they really need it. I probably should start thinking about doing it sooner. (And I tend to buy running shoes too thinking it's better support even if I am just walking.)

I have two pair of walking shoes and wear a different pair each day. They usually last me about 8 - 10 months.

Jesse, I did too. Now I am buying walking shoes instead of running shoes. The y last longer. I brought the new style walking shoe--they took me a few days to get use to. Now I love them and I have had them for 4 months.

I do have separate kicks for walking - I really don't replace them that often, but I should.

They do recommend replacing running shoes every 300 miles.

i was going through shoes in quite a short amount of time, and im a walker as well. i realized it was because i was buying cheap shoes. not sure if you are or not. even bought dr. scholl's thinking they would be good, but they ended up only lasting a couple of months too before they got holes in them. ive had my nike's now since february, and they seem to be just great so far! maybe you could try a few other brands and see if there's anything else out there that may fit like your others?

Off to the Lake

Sunday, July 10, 2011

Now that I've decided to get back to blogging, I can't think of anything to write about. (smiling) Maybe the well is dry when it comes to my journey with food and exercise. Not in a bad way, just no angst. Staying active, eating well (okay, pretty well. okay, better than usual), and doing all of the other good things for myself (sleep, etc.)

Heading out to the lake to do a walk with a friend. I'd like to live closer to nature and in a smaller city. But I have to admit that, yes, I am spoiled by San Diego's weather and not sure where I'd relocate to that has year-round good weather. Have to be outside daily.

Wishing all a fun day.

I Want to Buy A Scooter-Never Too Old for Fun

Friday, July 08, 2011

I have to admit that I'm a child in an adult body. (smiling) And never one to worry about what others think, that's not my main concern.

There's a scooter built for adults that I want on Amazon. It's a Razor Lux and looks like a bundle of fun. (This is the foot kind, fyi, nothing electrical or automatically propelled.)

Maybe I can start a scooter club with the San Diego Spark Chapter? Who knows? I almost laugh out loud when I think of all the strange looks I'll get scootering all by myself.

What's really holding me back for a minute is not wanting to wear a helmet. And, also, the thought of will I really use it once I buy it? I have some great pieces of exercise equipment that are just collecting dust. Case in point -elliptical. Never connected with it very well.

If I do get this scooter, I'll try to eventually take pics and share the laughs.

It does look like fun. I'm with you on the helmet. Since it would get you out and about, maybe you would have better luck with the scooter than the elliptical. At least it's relatively inexpensive.
Can't wait to see some candid shots :-)

Back to Blogging

Thursday, July 07, 2011

Used to be a daily blogger. Then, not so much. I do find that it helps me focus on issues that I'm dealing with, so I'm going to try to get back to a regular train of thought via Spark blogging.

Wishing all a fun day.
