Off to the Lake

Sunday, July 10, 2011

Now that I've decided to get back to blogging, I can't think of anything to write about. (smiling) Maybe the well is dry when it comes to my journey with food and exercise. Not in a bad way, just no angst. Staying active, eating well (okay, pretty well. okay, better than usual), and doing all of the other good things for myself (sleep, etc.)

Heading out to the lake to do a walk with a friend. I'd like to live closer to nature and in a smaller city. But I have to admit that, yes, I am spoiled by San Diego's weather and not sure where I'd relocate to that has year-round good weather. Have to be outside daily.

Wishing all a fun day.

I Want to Buy A Scooter-Never Too Old for Fun

Friday, July 08, 2011

I have to admit that I'm a child in an adult body. (smiling) And never one to worry about what others think, that's not my main concern.

There's a scooter built for adults that I want on Amazon. It's a Razor Lux and looks like a bundle of fun. (This is the foot kind, fyi, nothing electrical or automatically propelled.)

Maybe I can start a scooter club with the San Diego Spark Chapter? Who knows? I almost laugh out loud when I think of all the strange looks I'll get scootering all by myself.

What's really holding me back for a minute is not wanting to wear a helmet. And, also, the thought of will I really use it once I buy it? I have some great pieces of exercise equipment that are just collecting dust. Case in point -elliptical. Never connected with it very well.

If I do get this scooter, I'll try to eventually take pics and share the laughs.

It does look like fun. I'm with you on the helmet. Since it would get you out and about, maybe you would have better luck with the scooter than the elliptical. At least it's relatively inexpensive.
Can't wait to see some candid shots :-)

Back to Blogging

Thursday, July 07, 2011

Used to be a daily blogger. Then, not so much. I do find that it helps me focus on issues that I'm dealing with, so I'm going to try to get back to a regular train of thought via Spark blogging.

Wishing all a fun day.

YoYo Dieting Beneficial???

Monday, June 20, 2011

All weekend long, the news reported that a new study by U of Ohio study shows that those who've yoyo dieted have an advantage over those who have not done anything toward weight loss.

Seems that this flies in the face of healthy thinking... that yoyo dieting burned calories, no matter how temporary - and was therefore advantageous.

Honestly, I think that this type of reporting only serves to perpetuate the unhealthy pattern that many have followed and been frustrated by.

Numerous studies and research have shown the scars (physical & emotional) yo yo dieting leaves on people. I haven't read this latest study but seems like hogwash to me.

    "what's the spin today?"
Seriously students should be taught how to detect spin. Study or not. The pharma companies do it all the time.
Students should be taught what is healthy.
The best class I ever took was a statistics class... it showed me how to manipulate the number to show what I wanted.
So much for me being a trusting soul, now I am more critical, listen to your heart.
Oops sorry, I'll get off my soap box now.

I guess it depends on the spin you put on it. Face it, if you yo-yo diet and lose weight for a little while and are healthier for that little while, isn't that better than being unhealthy the whole time?

Although I agree, better to make slow, steady progress and keep it than go back and forth. But since I've been up and have only had small dips down in the last few years, I'll try and justify it any way I can! :-P~~~

The minute they report something the come up with something else contradictory. Who knows.

Did they state why this was so? My opinion, it probably possesses no benefit or disadvantage either way, but I'd be very curious to read the study.

Ditto!! I don't think being a former yo yo dieter, was beneficial for me, all it did, was increase my weight. If I had lost slow in the beginning, I would never have had the problems I did with weight loss. I couldn't tell you how much
money I spent on gadgets, Weight loss institutions WW, started that a gazillion times, always gained back. I found that the point system, allowed me 5 candy bars a day, if I wanted as long as I was staying within my points. So I built up my fat cells to a point of if I lose, and try to eat like I did formerly I refilled those cells, and added more. So these studies are redundant and complicated for the bulk of us that are trying to lose weight, become healthy the right way. "Fast doesn't last" MJ emoticon

Hundreds of studies contradict each other. It's all so baffling. We have to wade through the muck and mire to see what works for us. Unfortunately, that takes a lot of energy and time, which few of us have to spare. emoticon

RIP - Clarence Clemons & Thanks for the Music

Sunday, June 19, 2011

The big man on E Street has passed and I just had to write a blog to thank him for many decades of that saxy music he provided. Play on, big man, from the halls of heaven.
