Lazy day

Sunday, May 15, 2011

Boring and lazy Saturday. I read Jodi Picoult - "Nineteen Minutes", story about a school shooting like Columbine....very intense...

Talked to an old friend for a couple hours. My sister from Doha is moving to Alberta. Had a fight with dh, silent treatment on now... that was the day

(My toe is a very pretty purple today!)

    Hi Lila
Some times a lazy day can be good. I guess that story you read would be intense. It certainly is a concern that things like that are happening to many times.

I think your toe will stay a pretty purple for several days.
Have a great Sunday.

End of this week!

Friday, May 13, 2011

I went to see a school that was advertising a Gr. 1 position today, and ended up having to travel 15-20 km. on a dirt road, that freaked me out... some of it was very soft. Anyway, from info dh had told me, he said the community was only 350 people, so I was expecting a small school... the school population was over 450, K-12.... with Russian, French and English...Principal met with me and talked and the class size is about 25-30!!! (as big as our whole school!) The kids are brought in from many outlying rural communities and acreages.... eye-opening, to say the least...

The trip down also involved seeing 7 deer grazing along the highway, so coming back, I was concerned, but they must have all gone down for an early nite... didn't see a one. Very nearly went to the city, but dh wanted to come home since we didn't have any overnite stuff. Went to Subway for supper... between the two places we were gas ranged from 129.9 to 122.9 per litre...

Ever the bargain hunter, my find today was Music CD's for 25 cents each. One was a set of Latin music, it was 3 disks, so 8 or 9 cents each.... even had La Vida Loco.... I can see it being great Zumba music...

Well, the weekend's here! Not a word was said about a follow-up to my evaluation which happened on Tues... is this really the way it's supposed to be? Doing my best not to get stressed, but this man does have the power to ruin my life and my career!

Almost week's end

Thursday, May 12, 2011

Well, in letting the dog out to pee this am, I stubbed my toe on the door, and I think it's broken... it's very purple and red, luckily the middle toe, not that painful but very swollen. same foot as the sprained ankle last month!

Kids were wild today, not listening well. Had a community Trade Show today with lots of freebies and a BBQ... so that was supper. Then we came home to check out all the swag we got...Lots of reusable bags as the plastic ones are banned here when we go to town...

And tomorrow, there is only half a day and there will be an assembly during that time.... so surprise, a short week. So, wonder what I will do with the extended weekend....

    Hi Lila
Ouch, I am sorry you hurt or broke a toe. It seems to take so long to heal.
I also feel bad for you when you are so sad on your job. I hope for your sake that perhaps this part of your life will come to a end and you can start with a fresh new life.

Do you have any ideas what you might do this weekend? I would suggest some positive kind of event, something that you can have fun.
I still wonder sometimes if the kids are getting any real education with all the other things that go on.
Thank you for sharing and will talk to you later.

Well, it was Wednesday!

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

Only walked 1 mile with Leslie this a.m.. I didn't have a definite time for principal to come do evaluation and I didn't see him this a.m. So, he showed up at my door at 9 and asked if now was ok, so we did it. I had decided I wasn't putting on any show, I did my regular thing - which with the Grade 3 student away today, was a little easier than usual. So, he saw some ELA, then the kids did some printing and reading aloud and then they ate breakfast and I read them a story. He never said anything good/bad/or indifferent..

When I changed the SmartBoard, it now has a screensaver of me holding my new grandbaby, and kids ran to shut off the lites, so they could see better. Principal said, "Oh there's the little bambino.. I love babies".

Last nite instead of super-prepping for today, I kind of froze and instead did straightening up. I actually cleaned up a bunch (took much home), but found a Building Unit, so on my prep today, I copied the kid's bklet, so it's ready to go. I think I am quickly losing sense of how little time is left, and what other stuff we're going to have that doesn't involve school work.

Watched 1 Corrie Street at school and came home. I made cabbage rolls.... We had them for supper, I froze one lunch and there were enough for one other meal.... all made from 1 lb. ground pork, left over cabbage and left over rice... not bad!! Always forget how good they are...

Stayed home and talked on the phone and read for the evening...

(having 25 years office experience and typing 85 wpm, are some skills I have that should help me find a new job... hardly time left to make a career out of it!)

Terrific Tuesday!

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

Thanks to my friends for their comments.

Today we had a special activity..."Energy In Action". We had at least 1 volunteer for each student (plus a few) and we had an hour long presentation - very very well done - explaining about natural resources, renewable and non-renewable resources, petroleum refining and products from it etc. Then they provided a BBQ with fruit, salad, cake and watermelon...kids played for lunch period and then we all worked together to beautiful our school grounds. They had brought huge planters and whiskey barrels and picnic tables and benched made from huge trees. Wow! Going to take dh over now to have a look-see... pretty impressive! I spoke with several very nice people who were very complimentary!

For my lunch, I had a hamburg pattie minus the bun, a scoop of potato salad and 3 slices of watermelon...I was pleased with my choices....

Supper was SP broiled parmesan tilapia recipe except we had sole. (Tilapia is much better) with pan-fried potatoes and onions and greek salad and an orange for desert.

|Tomorrow I will have my last teacher evaluation - just told today, so no pre-eval (I've never ever had one though I understand you're supposed to!) I am trying not to get stressed over this. I pretty much plan on changing careers after this year anyway.. I will certainly miss the kids, but not the hard work or the horrible colleagues, thankfully, this school is the only place with a colleague who was such a bully. I need to go plan for tomorrow, and hopefully, be able to stay away from food for rest of the nite too. I drank 4 bottles of water at work and 2 big cups of tea since I came home too... it's not that it was that hot, although it got to about 70F, but it's just become a very healthy habit for me.

I hope it will be an early nite since I woke up at 3am and couldn't go back to sleep for some reason.

    Hi Lilla
Well, I am glad you had a good day, you certainly deserve one. If you are planning on quitting, it won't matter much about your review. It is a shame that you are in a school that lacks good leadership. Any ideas on what a career change means? Anywhere you go will gain a valuable employee.
I hope you get some good rest tonight.
Thanks for sharing
